Audition Characters and Requirements
Audrey
Must have the ability to speak in an accent and sing in character. She is a stereotypical dumb
blond. But innocent and has a heart of gold.
Seymour
Bright and excitable, with moments of anxiousness. He is secretly and deeply in love with Audrey
and is loyal and caring.
Mushnik
A typical New York Jewish business man / woman and the owner of the flower shop where
Seymour and Audrey work. A strong character actor is need for this part and ability to character
sing in accent.
Orin Scrivello – The Dentist
A nasty self-medicating masochist and Audrey 's boyfriend. He has a look and swagger of an Elvis
impersonator. Strong character actor / singer needed.
Crystal / Chiffon /Ronette – “The Ronette’s”
Three sassy narrators who will be dressed “Supremes" style throughout. I have an idea that one of
these will be a transvestite. But this is open to change as the man will have to have the ability to be
extremely believable as a woman. They cannot be a joke character or look like a panto dame. I
want the audience to laugh with them, not at them. The trio must gel as a single unit and be able
to learn unison choreography. If the character of Ronette gets cast as a male, he will play multiple
cameo roles and need the ability to flick effortlessly between them. These are big sing and dance
parts.
Audrey II (The Plant)- Voice
Never appears on stage but must be a strong actor and singer. Has a voice like pouring chocolate in
your ear. Seductive but with an air of threat and menace.
The Ronettes II
Three girls - kind of the backing singers for the Ronette's and the only chorus as such in this
production. Like the Ronnette's they will have to have the ability to sing and dance in unison. They
are also the side - kicks of the plant and unworldly in looks.
A Flasher
As the title suggests. Depending on how the Ronette's are cast, he may end up doing multiple small
cameos.
There will be no chorus, or pit singers in this show, therefore all the cast will have to be strong singers.
There will be no room to hide in this production and a lot will be demanded of the cast.
You must be able to start rehearsal in early August. Please tell me any dates you are not available for
rehearsals at the audition on Sunday the 28th of June. A detailed schedule will be provided once the
production rehearsal starts.
With regards to the audition material on the day you will have to;


Read a selected piece showing the character and required accent (New Yorker).
Sing a song from the show.
All Ronette's will dance a quick routine devised by Sandra to satisfy her that you’re up to her
choreography.
Everyone most audition on this day unless a prior arrangement is made to meet with me. If I cannot cast a
part from the audition process, they committee has given me the right to approach a suitable individual.
Good Luck!!
