More than a hundred years ago, a
tradition of generous hospitality was
started at the summer estate of Earl
W. Oglebay in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Today, Oglebay Resort and Conference
Center offers 1,700 acres of year-round
recreational opportunities and excellent
overnight accommodations but has
retained its picturesque natural beauty.
For generations, families, groups and
individuals have indulged in the tradition
and spirit that make Oglebay unique. The 270-room Wilson Lodge at Oglebay
features 59 premium guest rooms,
the West Spa, fine and casual dining,
indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, fitness
center, wireless Internet and a business
center. Groups of 10 to 400 are easily
accommodated in the 22,000 sq. ft. of
modern conference facilities at the lodge.
For groups and larger families, Oglebay
has 54 cottages including three eightbedroom cottages and four estate houses.

Oglebay is the perfect golf destination with
four golf courses, including 36 holes of
championship golf at the resort’s Speidel
Golf Club. The newest championship
course was designed by Arnold
Palmer and complements the original
championship course designed by the
legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. There is
also a fully stocked pro shop, on-staff golf
pro, and practice range, plus an 18-hole
regulation golf course, a Par III course and
lighted driving range.
Additional recreational opportunities at
Oglebay include swimming at the large
outdoor pool, ten Har-Tru tennis courts,
horse stables, pedal boating, aqua cycles,
miniature golf, fishing, and miles of
paved walking/jogging trails. Oglebay has
downhill skiing and snowboarding during
the winter months.
Visitors of all ages will be delighted by
the Good Zoo at Oglebay with 50 species
of animals, a mile-and-a-half train ride,
indoor Discovery Lab, and the state’s
largest 0-gauge model train exhibit. The
Mansion Museum (Mr. Oglebay’s summer
home) the Glass Museum, Environmental
Education Center, and eight specialty
shops are also highlights of Oglebay.
The natural beauty of Oglebay can be
enjoyed with a stroll along brick walking
paths in the magnificent gardens. These
gardens are a 16-acre recreation of the
gardens that existed in the early 1900s
when Oglebay was still a private estate.
Over 50,000 tulips, daffodils and hyacinths
herald spring’s arrival, and the summer
months feature colorful annuals blooming
from the beds and dangling from over
200 hanging baskets. In November and
December, Oglebay features one of
America’s largest holiday light shows, the
Winter Festival of Lights. This driving show
dazzles visitors with over a million lights on
a six-mile drive displayed over 300 acres.

undergone a complete renovation. The
renovation brings new and modern

The Pointe Steak & Sea is a regionally

Pointe underwent a renovation in 2014,
which included beautiful new tables, chairs

The award-winning, all-you-can-eat buffet

If entertainment is your passion, then
Wheeling is your place to visit.
The city’s Heritage Port, located on the
Ohio River, serves as the Upper Ohio
Valley’s entertainment hub, hosting
everything from heritage and blues
festivals to movie nights, regattas, food
festivals and more.
The most popular event held at Heritage
Port is the Upper Ohio Valley Italian
Festival. Held each July, this annual event
brings in more than 150,000 patrons over
three days for food, fun and fireworks.
Another big event each summer at
Heritage Port is the Heritage Blues
Festival, held each August. Some of the
biggest names in the blues industry make
their way to Wheeling for the three-day
event, which attracts visitors to the area
from as far away as Canada. Festivities
focusing on Wheeling’s river heritage also
are popular, as the Sternwheel Regatta
and Vintage Raceboat Regatta float along
each September.
The annual Fourth of July festivities at
Heritage Port, featuring the Wheeling
Symphony Orchestra, also are a big
hit. Other events include the weekly
Waterfront Wednesdays concert series,
held throughout the summer; the
Wheeling Feeling Chili Cook-Off each
June; the Rib and Chicken Cook-Off; the
Mountaineer Brewfest; and regular visits
from classic stern wheel boats.
If hockey is your sport, then stay for a
Wheeling Nailers game at WesBanco
Arena, which sits adjacent to Heritage
Port. The Nailers, part of the East Coast
Hockey League, are affiliated with the
Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal
Canadiens teams and bring solid, young
talent to Wheeling.

The 30-acre Good Zoo features an Outback Exhibit with
kangaroos, plus rare and endangered species including African
wild dogs, spectacled bears, tamarin monkeys and red pandas.

custom house, served as the home of the pro-Union conventions
of Virginia in 1861, the capitol of loyal Virginia from June 1861
to June 1863, and the site of the first constitutional convention
