Dubbed the “Buried Treasure” project,
Jimmy Buffett says that he’s come across
a collection of unreleased songs from the
late 60’s and early 70’s that he plans to
release soon: The “Buried Treasure”
project includes at least 20 original songs
and perhaps some cover material Buffett
recorded in Nashville between 1969 and
1973 with original producer Travis Turk.
“Two years ago they were going to sell
the studio we were working at and
owners said go through this and see if
there’s anything you can use. He found
74 original songs I forgot I had written,”
Buffett says. “It’s really, right back to the beginning stuff. … I’m going back and
listening to myself during these times and it’s sparking stories. I don’t remember
writing a lot of these songs but once I hear them stuff starts coming back. So I’m
doing a narration through this material that we found. I’m going to do that as a
project. They were tape recordings they were about to throw out. Some is cover
stuff, but the original stuff there’s probably about 20 songs that I had forgotten I had
written. … It’s something people might want to add to their collection.”
Although he’s uncertain when Buried Treasure might be released, Buffett says his
work on the project should be done in the next couple months. “I’m working on that
on the road.” Meanwhile, he’s written some new songs, but says, “I’m at that point
now where, do I really want to go into the studio and put out another album? I’ve
got four or five new songs. Why don’t I just go in and record them and put them up
on line? I’m not sure people really want to go get a whole album collection because
of how iTunes has kind of taken the album away.”
Stay tuned, he says. “I’m kind of toying with how you go forward with new material.
In the meantime I certainly know how to deal with this old material. They will want
that as a collection.”

Captain’s Log
Summertime, at last! And that means it’s time for two of my favorite
things—Buffett and baseball! And our club has opportunities to enjoy
both of these this June.
The Welcome to Fin Land Tour is in full swing. Jimmy’s been doing some
very cool stuff with the playlist this year, mixing things up and playing songs
I haven’t heard at a concert in quite awhile, if ever. He’s been opening the
shows with “The Wino and I Know” and the set lists have included “Stranded
on a Sandbar,” “Lady I Can’t Explain,” “Survive,” and “Railroad Lady,” just to
name a few of the tunes that are seldom heard live. Thursday, June 23, is
our club’s show at Camden. I’m sorry I can’t make the club venue this year.
This will probably be the first time in about 10 years that I haven’t been to
Camden. But I’m really looking forward to the show at Star Lake in Pittsburgh. (I know
it’s not Star Lake anymore; it’s officially First Niagara Pavilion. Whatever. It will always be
Star Lake to me.) Now that is a show I haven’t missed in probably 20 years. Always one
of my favorite venues. If anyone is going, just let me know. We can work on a plan to
meet up.
As to baseball, on Saturday, June 11th, it’s Beach Jersey Night with the Harrisburg Senators.
This is a great chance to come out and party with a purpose. Buy your tickets for the game through Christina and $4 of the ticket
price will go toward Easter Seals of Central PA and help support the Summer in Paradise event. The players’ Beach Jerseys will be
auctioned off after the game and there will be Parrothead themed contests between innings. I’d love to have a big club turnout for
this event. Dress in your best tropical or club shirt and come join the fun.
Yes, it is summertime and, as the song says, the living is easy. In fact, I hear my hammock calling me right now.

Buffett Talks about the
Jiffy Lube Live
Tailgating Ban
by Dan Hall
OK, the rumors have been flying about the change in
tailgating policy for the Jimmy Buffett concert at Bristow, VA,
on August 27. Here is the latest news from BuffettWorld.com
and BuffettInfo.com.
Parrotheads in the Washington, D.C. area, upset about new no-tailgating
rules at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA, (where Jimmy is set to play on Aug. 27
as part of his summer Welcome to Fin Land tour), now have Buffett on their
side.
In an interview with USA Today that focuses mainly on releasing old material,
Jimmy Buffett says he’s going to work on the tailgating prohibition at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia.
Spokespeople for Jiffy Lube Live and owner Live Nation have said that they are cracking down on tailgating at
the venue that is known for great pre-partying.
Prior to the start of this year’s concert season, the venue announced it would enforce its rule of no alcohol in
the parking lot, as well as restrict tailgating. The parking lot will also not open as early as in previous years.
Anyone who knows about Buffett and the Parrothead culture knows that tailgating is at least half of the fun.
When told there wasn’t going to be partying in the parking lot, the singer said, “Who’s stupid idea was that?
… I’m glad to hear that. I’ll get right on that. I believe I can take care of that. It must be some city thing, but it’s
not me.”
The venue, formerly known as Nissan Pavilion “is one of the biggest tailgating places ever,” he says. “We got
time, I can really get into that. … I’m going to fire a little shot to the Live Nation people.”
Go for it, Jimmy! If anyone can get it done it is you.
Bio Tease!
Return of
the Classics
Starting in July, you will begin to see a new feature. We’ve done “Gypsies in the Palace” to
introduce our newer members in the past, but based on the questionnaire response, newer
pholks would like to learn more about the “classic” PHIAP phlock members. So, next month,
be on the lookout for bios on both “virgin” Parrotheads and our more “experienced” ones!

New Orleans, Part 2
Mary Chopak
After the Stars Fell on
Alabama event, we headed
back to New Orleans on
Sunday. They say Route 10
between Mobile, Alabama
and New Orleans is one of
the 10 worst highways in
the country – now we know
why. Uneven payment with
continuous bumps made
sure no one fell asleep on
the road.
Along the way we stopped
in Biloxi, MS, to see the
casinos and the amazing
tree sculptures next to the
waterfront. This area, severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina,
left dozens of dead trees by the waterfront which were carved
by chain saw into marine-related figures. The beaches looked
refreshed with white sand and plenty of people enjoying the
warm weather. We stopped at the Hard
Rock for lunch and had time to put a few
coins in the slots. We spoke with one of
the workers who said the hurricane was
a blessing because this area was badly
in need of revitalization.
On to New Orleans where we planned
to spend a few days touring the Big
Easy. Our hotel was a short two blocks
from Bourbon Street – how convenient.
Monday morning we planned a threehour van tour of the city. We got to see
the area where the levee broke into the
Ninth District and then saw the newly enhanced levees, pumps
and flood walls. Some of the housing areas are still in need of
repair but many organizations such as Habitat for Humanity,
along with Brad Pitt and Harry Connick Jr., are doing their
best to aid in the ongoing recovery. The tour took us past the
Manning homestead, Sandra Bullock’s home as well as Brad
and Angelina’s dwelling. We also saw the Garden District with
the historic southern mansions, and one of the many aboveground cemeteries with their huge mausoleums. We drove in
and around the French Quarter and saw the many beads in the
trees along the Mardi Gras parade route. The rest of the day we
spent exploring the funky bars along Bourbon and enjoying the
dueling pianos at Howling at the Moon and Pat O’Briens. And of
course we had to have a hurricane or two.
Tuesday
morning
we had breakfast at
the famous Café du
Monde for beignets
and coffee before
heading to the New
Orleans
Cooking
School. I didn’t realize
what a popular place
the cooking school
was because the
class was full, with
a waiting list. While
cooking, the chef told
us some of the history of the city and explained the difference
between the Cajun and Creole cooking (one has tomatoes,
the other does not). The chef made Jambalaya, Gumbo, bread
pudding and pralines, and the delicious meal was shared with
the 75 or so attendees. We returned to the Bourbon Street area
where we stopped for a drink at Margaritaville, watched the
many street performers, and then enjoyed more music and
beers (Abita).
We had a fantastic seven-day adventure
in the South, traveled through four
states, crossed New Orleans and “Stars
Fell on Alabama” off the bucket list, tried
a Bushwacker and a Hurricane, and could
not have asked for better hospitality,
weather or entertainment both in the
Gulf Shores and New Orleans.

Our guide
would dive
down and
bring
up
everything
that was safe
and we could hold or play with them. It was a ‘Hoot’.
Our spring vacation plans brought up dreams of a Tropical Oasis
like Cancun - what we found was a desert. Cabo San Lucas,
Mexico, is all sand, rocks and cactus everywhere. It was a shock
but, as we pulled up to our resort, we found what we were
dreaming of with palms, cactus and flowers everywhere.
The weather was fabulous, but being at the tip of the Baja
Peninsula we could not swim by the hotel. The currents were too
strong there, but right up the beach was an area where you
could swim and it was amazing! It was a happy change from the
weather here in PA (their average rain fall for the month of May
is “ZERO”).
The whole feel of the town was
different than Cancun and it was a
welcome change for us after 11
times to Cancun. We took the
regular bus into town, with all the
locals, to go shopping. We found a
great place to visit called the
“Happy Ending Cantina” which was
a welcome relief from the heat - 2
beers & 2 double tequilas - $5.00.
We had fun playing ball on the bar
with “Bella” the owner of the bar (at
least she thinks so), relaxing and
talking with employees and the
other Parrot Heads that stopped
in.
Since our plan to go deep-sea
fishing did not pan out (could not
find anyone available to go with
us), we decided to go on a tour and
snorkeling excursion. We were
picked up at the resort and taken on a tour of the Cabo. The view
from the top of one hill overlooking the town and the harbor
was truly breathtaking. The driver then took us to the harbor
where we went on a glass bottom boat
tour up and around the line of rocks
that contained “the Arch” and the rock
that has been called “Scooby-Doo”. It
seems that we were in Cabo during
the period that the Arch could be
walked under, which happens every
four years; usually it is surrounded by
water. We saw 2 seals (parents) with an
infant. The little one kept hiding under
the parents but would pop up once in
a while to check us out. The snorkeling
was so much fun; what a beautiful
One day we wanted to go to Walmart to get some souvenirs. Yes
we are cheap. We missed the stop on the bus and ended up back
in town, so back to the “Happy Ending Cantina” we went. Dave
found the address of a little taco place so we went on the search
and found “Gordo Lele” after several turns off the main street. It
was a “hole in the wall”. It was wall-to-wall Beatles posters and
pictures (with a couple of Elvis thrown in for filler), 4 very small
tables...but what fabulous Tacos. We had to eat half of the meat
before we could even try to pick it up. It was the best taco we
ever had! If this place was here at home no one would go near
it, but I’m so glad we did.
When we were on our way back to the airport, some of the other
vacationers said that they had gone fishing; two of the men said
they had caught Marlin, one was 260 lbs, the other said his was
235 lbs. They were very happy to show Elaine the pictures. Only
one of them was having it mounted and shipped to him (only
around $250), the other was able to release his after catching it.
We have decided next time, no matter what, we are going
fishing!!!
All in all it was a wonderful place to visit and can we say, “We will
be back”? (The sooner the better!!!)

I hope you had fun with this test and will give it a whirl with friends and family. When I took this in sales training, we
laughed about how crazy it would be in a Bull only world as it would revolve around productivity. In a Tiger only world it
would only be fun, fun and more fun and nothing would get done. In an owl only world, we would be mired down in detail
and in a Lamb only world, we wouldn’t be able to decide what to wear let alone how to rule the world.
Of course, we here at the Tequila Times took the test. I confess there is one category not included in this basic BOLT
test. If your scores were within 4 points of highest score to lowest score (i.e., 54, 52, 52, 50 as an example) you have
evolved into a chameleon. No wonder I like lizards. I’m a chameleon.
So fess up, if you want….we would like to know what personality type you are. If you are married, what is your spouse?
It would be interesting to see if we really are attracted to opposites. Hmmm....interesting! Write it up and we’ll print it! Bet
you’ll be profiling people you meet all this week for fun!
(Charles Clarke is the inventor of the theories behind each of the personality types and the tests. He is a consultant who
speaks to groups about recognizing personality types in order to build relationships and be more successful. For more

Monster Palmetto?
I
was in the air at the same time the space shuttle took
off from Cape Canaveral--close to Baltimore at the
time, so I didn’t see anything, but we shared air space.
After landing in Ft. Myers and picking up the rental car, I
headed out for Marco Island. If you’re unfamiliar with
Marco, it is the largest of the 10,000 Islands, just south of
Naples. On the way to Marco, I made my obligatory stop
at Pelican Bend…still owned by the same family that ran it 23 years ago when I lived on Isle of Capri (just off Marco).
It is the most comfortable chickee bar I’ve ever encountered—sitting on a dock for parasail and fishing charter boats.
They serve beer, wine and the best damn burgers ever! The staff treats you like family, even when you haven’t been
there in years. It’s always my first stop on the way in.
Arrived at my friend Marilyn’s place--we worked together at the Radisson, back in 1988. I stay with Mal whenever I get the chance. Her place is a couple of blocks from the beach, on a canal, with screened in pool and hot tub--not
bad digs! Mal likes to stay up late and sleep in late, and I’m an early riser. So, I spend the mornings out exploring, and
then we beach it in the afternoon.
Normally I try to get out to Collier-Seminole Park for a little canoeing in the mangroves, but my time was short.
My big foray was to the Rookery Bay Estuarine Reserve, just off of Route 951 on the way to Naples. They’ve built a
great education center at the reserve and have three half-mile walking trails, leading from the ed center up the estuary
and into the scrub forest. Though I didn’t see many animals, the flora was enticing. I’m a bit of a botany geek, so I have
about 50 pictures of interesting flowers encountered along the walk. I explored the area in recovery after the forest fires
of a few years ago. One of my favorite pictures is of a group of saw palmetto felled by the fires. They’ve begun to grow
again and look like some kind of monster emerging from the ground. After the mosquitoes and noseeums had eaten their
fill, I decided to get out of the woods and back to the safety of the ocean breeze.
Though I’m a “hole-in-wall” restaurant seeker, Mal loves a nice meal at a nice place. So we decided to head to
Naples and the more upscale dining experience. En route, we stopped at the Naples Botanical Gardens, a newer addition to the Southwest Florida landscape. As a botany fan, I could have stayed there all
day! The tropical varieties came in from around the world and I saw flowers I haven’t
seen in nearly 30 years when I lived overseas. There’s a beautiful fountain and pool
filled with giant water lilies that nearly rivals Longwood Gardens.
Lunch was at The Boathouse where they made a seriously refreshing mojito
with loads of fresh mint. The food was divine, but the mojitos made the meal after the
long, hot stroll through the gardens.
Thursday, after visiting the Marco Island Museum, I departed to Miami to visit
with a friend from high school. We headed out for a late evening meal on South Beach.
I chose the restaurant by the music (Daniel Almeria—flamenco guitarist) and the fact
that it was the Estefan’s restaurant (hubby loves Gloria!). The shrimp tempura dragon
roll was delectable as were the mojitos! I had to laugh at one point as Almeria broke
into a flamenco rendition of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.” As the evening got late (or early)
we headed back toward Kendall and the Blue Martini, where the music was perfect
Latin dance and the people were all beautiful. I could seriously stay in Miami.
A Cuban breakfast at the Rinconcita, accompanied by a Cuban coffee or two

Walk ‘n Roll for Living Well is a community and family event by the Center for
Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP) held on Harrisburg’s City Island. It
celebrates the anniversary of the signing of the ADA and raises funds for the
Living Well with a Disability program.
The event is being held on Saturday,
July 23, 2011. Participants who register
before June 24, 2011 will receive a FREE
Walk ‘n Roll for Living Well t-shirt. Prizes
will be given to the Individual, Family, and Corporate Team that raises the
most donations. Food and drinks will be
provided.
There are still a few spots to fill for Summer in Paradise. Event is July 29, 2011,
5:00-10:00 PM at Naylor Wine Cellars in
Stewartstown, PA. Contact Christina
Baldwin [email protected] for more information on where
your talent is needed! She is also available by phone at 717-591-7027. You’re
going to be there for John Frinzi, B-Tropical and Tropical Soul (with John Patti),
so you might as well lend a hand!
TREASURE HUNT!
We normally call our road clean-up the
“Treasure Hunt”, but this time, we really
MEAN it! Hidden along the trash pickup route will be three surprise treasures
for Parrothead volunteers. One of the
hidden treasures will be a $25 gift certificate to Appalachian Brewing Company! Yes, that’s right. You read it correctly. If you find the “Treasure” you could
have your meal on us! Keep your eyes
open for more information in the July
Tequila Times, on our Facebook page
and on the AmishParrotheads listserve.
Mark the date—July 16, 2011. We know
there’s a lot going on that day across
“Fin-Land” but this is early and leaves
plenty of time for other activities!
Registration will begin at the Carousel
Pavilion at 9:00 am. The Walk ‘n Roll will
start at 10:00 am with lunch to follow.
