From Pastor Doug
Reunion Sunday is September 9. This day is also called Rally Sunday. I am not
sure who coined the term “reunion” for this year, but I like it!
Our summers are so busy with the constant exceptions from the routine’s. We
travel and vacation and visit far flung relatives. We miss seeing one another as
we are gone for these various adventures. But on September 9 we come
together as our routines return.
On Reunion Sunday [September 9] we return to our worship schedule of 9am
traditional and 11am contemporary. Sunday School resumes at 10:05am.
Learning and Sharing will also be happening between the services.
Immediately following the 11am worship service all are invited to Fellowship
Hall for a variety of chili’s and pie. This year we will not be voting on the best
chili’s. We have discovered that they are all good! So the emphasis is on
joining one another for chili and pie!
If you attend the 9am service, you can be served your chili and pie at 11:30!
There are a few other upcoming events we want to highlight.

We have been asked to work with Habitat for Humanity on a home on
Sunday, September 16, beginning at 12:30pm. Call the Church Office to get
on the list to help.

Class 101 for New Members is Sunday, September 30, from 4 – 6pm. If you
or someone you know is interested in joining Pontoppidan have them
contact the Church Office [232-0998].

We are doing a new Church Directory. We have contracted with a local
company for this directory. The pictures will be taken from October 14 –
21. You will be contacted later to find a day and time for your photo
opportunity. We hope that every member will be able to find the time to
have their picture taken.
As always, Pontoppidan is in need of various volunteers. If you would like to
volunteer, please call the Church Office [232-0998] or contact Cindy Linstad,
our Volunteer Coordinator.
Have a blessed September!

Caring For Our Neighbors
By Malvina Moe
Stewardship Rep.
School Days, School Days are happening. . . .
...not only in our community but all around the world. Last month we delivered a generous amount of school
supplies to the United Way office. Since then more supplies have come in, so that will mean another trip to their
office. THANK YOU-they are very appreciative.
We received a very nice “thank you” letter from Luther Hall. They said, “thank you again for your continued
support and encouragement. It is your generosity that helps us continue our mission of healing, help and hope to
those in need.”
We are continuing to collect school supplies for LWR. Look for the list in last months Pont’s Pondering. The
“Blue Bins” are by the church office.
The “CART” is designated for “Churches United for the Homeless”. They can use bus tokens, gas cards and
small size diapers plus non-perishable food item.
Lest we forget, there is the on-going need for bath size bars of soap for LWR. The basket is by the church office.
“Father, I pray you will fill me with desire to think of others and to help them
however I am able.” Amen

WELCA News
Thank you everyone who ordered geraniums
from “Friend of Nokomis.”
I’ve heard the blossoms are beautiful!
The profit made was $14,167.70; we will have
money to help out Nokomis with items that are
not in the budget.

Sunday, September 16
8:00 AM
1534 1st Avenue South, Fargo, North Dakota
Once again Pontoppidan has the opportunity to serve Habitat for Humanity. We are scheduled for Sunday, September 16.
The build is for a single parent family with one child, (see bio below). Pontoppidan is scheduled to install sheetrock. This
will be the third day of sheetrocking so there will not be a whole lot left. It should be very easy. The address is 1534 1st
Ave. S., Fargo. The starting time on Sunday the 16th is 8:00 am. There is a sign up sheet in the Education building hallway.
Hope to see you there!
Local family looks forward to coming together with the community to build their
own home.
When Wilfred Hudson was in the Navy, he volunteered on his first Habitat for Humanity project. “People came
together to help someone get a home of their own,” recalled Hudson, “It was such a cool thing to be part of.”
After his discharge from the Navy, Wilfred wanted to provide his daughter Brittney with a home of their own.
Over the years, he attended first time home buyers classes several times and applied for conventional mortgages.
However, he was never able to qualify for a conventional home loan.
Today, Wilfred rents a two bedroom apartment in South Moorhead with Brittney, now age 8.
“All this time we were looking for a home-I did not think to ask for help,” admits Wilfred. “One of my biggest
dreams has been to give my daughter her own yard to play in,” he says.
The Hudson family will not receive a “free” home, but instead will purchase the home with an interest-free loan to
be repaid over the course of the mortgage. Wilfred will contribute 250 “sweat equity” hours working on their
future home.
“Knowing that we helped other families put a roof over their heads and pride in their hearts strengthen our
family,” says Wilfred. “We are grateful that we will experience the same blessing.”
The Hudson family expresses thanks for Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans,
Bound South, and all the donors and volunteers who will make their dream a reality. “If it weren't for them helping
Habitat, we would have never been able to buy a home. We would like to thank your members so much. This
means the world to my family and me.”
