2016 trends
Świętokrzyskie cycling tourism
Every year the bicycle industry has been gaining a momentum.
Keep your eyes open to be in the swim. Comfort, speed and
freedom in crowded centres of large cities - this is what users
want. Cyclists appreciate two-wheelers’ sophisticated design
and original style. And there a lot to chose from!
Regardless the incentive a biker finds to take to bikes - in this
region there is something for everyone. Cycling trails network
accounts for 3000 km - marked routes lead to the most interesting culture and landscape spots and scenic corners. Świętokrzyskie welcomes cyclists!

Ladies and Gentlemen!
The 6th International Fair of Bicycle Industry KIELCE BIKE-EXPO promises
to be exceptional owing to the novelties galore. There is still a great veil
of secrecy, but the exhibitors allowed for a little sneak on the 2016’s most
interesting products. This has made us even more curious and willing to
visit the expo stands. Next season’s trends are presented on the next
page. Our experts advise and describe the cycling industry’s growing specialization. These new futuristic solutions make me surprised and curious.
Those of you who love off-road, difficult, mountainous terrains should focus on page four. This segment features MTB; a wheel, though it seems
and old invention is now facing another revolution. The following pages
are more to the taste of comfortable rides lovers who move about the
urban jungle without losing on their original style.
You are also most welcome to visit Kielce and the area. When at the
KIELCE BIKE-EXPO you cannot possibly miss the chance to see and try
marked trails crafted for two-wheelers. Page twenty-second helps you explore the Świętokrzyskie province’s charm seen from a bicycle saddle. The
Green Velo Eastern Bike Trail is particularly interesting - the project joins
the five provinces, the route starts Świętokrzyskie.
Hope to see you on 24-26 September 2015 at the KIELCE BIKE-EXPO. This
is where a unique atmosphere is combined with business; this is a great
contribution to cycling passion development.

The Expo’s
Europe-scale
prestige
- Poland’s bicycle expos have their geographical
history - says Jan Zasada, the President of the Polish Cycling Association, the originator of the Kielce
exhibition. - In the early 90’s exhibitions were held in
the former Polish cycling capital - Bydgoszcz. Then
there was a short episode in Poznan followed by
several Katowice editions. After a few-year break,
shows were reactivated in Warsaw. Warsaw editions
were overshadowed with the difficult period in Polish
bicycle industry - the market down-turn. That was
the time when Polish leading bicycles and bicycle
parts manufacturers and importers in conjunction
with wholesalers retailers founded the Polish Cycling
Association. The Association - Polish industry and
business-insiders organization has assumed the task
of the bicycle sector facilitator. One of the objectives
was to organize nationwide bicycle expos defined
as a great bicycles-associated event which brings
together business insiders. Fortunately Targi Kielce
have fulfilled our demand. After short negotiations
we succeeded to stage the first KIELCE BIKE-EXPO
in October 2010. Over six years the event has
advanced to become our part of Europe’s largest
exhibition of this kind. This should be attributed to
Targi Kielce’s management team and staff - vibrant,
entrepreneurial and responsive to the exhibitors’
needs. They have been highly commended by exhibitors and visitors. Trade shows have been gathering
momentum and gaining prestige not only in Europe,
but also amongst the world-scale cycling milieus adds President Zasada.

2016 trends
For a number of years the bicycle industry and business sector have been
gaining a momentum. If you want to keep abreast of the changes you really have to really keep a close eye on the market. MTB faces an ongoing
revolution when it comes to the wheels size; introduction 27.5” and 29”
sizes has not been the last word, now it is time for the „plus” sizes: 27.5”+
and 29”+. Road-bikes are becoming increasingly professional; you can go
for aerodynamics, trekking, gravel, triathlon... In road racing, disc brakes are
about to be introduced in the regular races. However, bikes used for dayto-day commuting and recreation are still the most popular. Year after year
an increased number of users opts for this convenient and a quick way of
moving about crowded city centres. Electric motor kits have already become a popular bicycle-accessory.
R
oad cycling in Poland has recently been
experiencing a renaissance. Buoyed up
with our professional cyclists’ recent successes, road-bikes have been gaining an increased popularity. However there is much
more than aerodynamics, even these bikes
cannot possibly be lumped together as the
industry has developed a strong specialisation. Aerodynamic designs help ride faster
in races and on flat stretches. At the same
time more and more attention has been
paid to professional bike-product range.
Kross Vento 9.0
Cannondale CAAD12 Dura Ace Disc
revealed the actual triathlon popularity. 64
events of various distances brought together
7010 triathletes; they crossed the finish line
14 095 times. This season, though has not
finished yet, promises to be even more successful. The calendar of events comprises
more than 100 races, including the 5 cycles.
Big global companies have recognised Polish
triathlon. Ironman competitions series were
held in Gdynia; this was the opportunity to
qualify for the World Cup in Australia. Poznan
will be the stage for the race held under the
Challenge banner (the second-largest brand
right after Ironman). There is much more
to it! It has been officially announced - next
year the Tyniec village near Krakow will see
They are designed to offer more comfort
on potholed, bumpy roads. Trek Madone or
Bianchi Specialissima are just the examples.
Most brands can boast bicycles of this type.
Examples - Granfondo BMC, Cannondale
Synapse, Fuji Gran Fondo, Giant Defy, Merida Ride, Pulsium Lapierre, Orbea Avant and
Scott Solace. Most of them are equipped
with disc brakes. Now for amateurs; the
UCI has only started tests in selected races
(Tour de Pologne and the Vuelta). If tests are
OK, disc brakes will be used in next season’s
larger number of competitions. From 2017
the ban will be lifted.
Scott Addict Gravel Disc
Gravel-type bikes - this is another trend
which has developed. Compared to offroads they offer smoother geometry - these
bikes are very versatile, designed for any
kind of beaten tracks ranging from poor
quality asphalts to gravel roads with lots
of pebbles. In a nut-shell - these are even
more radical endurance bike. Much wider
tyres, strong wheels and often fitted with
a sideways-curved handle bars to make the
bike handling easier when riding off-road.
The trend was initiated by Anyroad Giant.
This season the whole GT Grade line joined.
The 2016 season additions include the
gravel-type Cannondale, Fuji, Marin, Romet,
Scott and Superior.

the cross triathlon competition of the Xterra
Series (an equivalent to Ironman, off-road
version) This is a chance for the 25 slots for
the World Championships in Hawaii. When it
comes to bikes, triathlon is organized according to the two principles. The Olympic distances competition (drafting permitted and
organized by ITU federation). UCi-approved
road bikes are used. Aero version is most
welcome. More and more brands include
such machines in their collections : BMC
TimeMachine, Fuji Transonic, Propel Giant,
Merida Reacto or Scott’s 2016 season’s new
Foil model. There is also the impressive Look
795 Aerolight or Specialized S-Works Venge
Vias - perfect bikes for drafting triathlons.
The Ironman competitions where wheel-towheel or pack rides are not allowed admit
time-trial bicycles and special tri- constructions. More and more brands present on
the Polish market have at least one triathlon model in their collections. Scott offers

Next season has lots to toffer.
In the mountain bike segment the changes
are so rapid that people who do not follow new developments on a regular basis
cannot keep up the pace. Until recently
introduction of the new wheel sizes came
as a shock. Now this has become a regular
practice. 29” wheels are mostly used with HT
bicycles (rigid frame) for cross-country and
marathon. The fully suspended models with
suspension-travel not exceeding 120 mm
come on the two wheel sizes - 650B and 29”,
with a slight predominance of larger ones.
Some brands, such as Scott, offer models
with both wheel sizes (Spark series 900 and
700). The 650B are more advantageous
with a greater suspension travel. There has
also been a change in the field of gravitational cycling such as FR or DH - new bicycle
models are based on 27.5” wheels. 26” size
has now been pushed into a niche and it can
be found with lowest-price range bikes and
bikes for children, promoted as “twenty-niner
for juniors”. These can be found in the Orbea
(MX 26), Scott (Scale JR 26) or Romet (Dirt 26)
product assortment.
Fatbikes with tires wider than 4” in diameter
feature a similar wheel rims to the 26” and still
Kross Soil 3.0
Merida One-Twenty 7.800
generate an avid interest. However among
off-road bikes there is a tendency to reach out
for more comprehensive solutions. Wheels
marked „+” are based on tire ranges from 2.8”
to 3”. This presses for wider rims of 27.5” and
29” in diameter. Scott has conducted a study
and found out that the „+” tire of 2.8” boasts
21% larger contact area compared to 2.35”
width. This translates into to a much better
grip. A possibility to lower the pressure (approx. 1 bar) is big advantage. This increases
comfort, and reduces puncture risk as might
be the case with bigger inner-tubes. Interestingly enough, according to the same study
wide tires have been found to increase rolling
resistance only slightly. That is why Scott has
introduced a full range of „+” bicycles such as
Scale Plus, E-genius + Genius + and Genius
LT. Competition do not fall behind; Trek
KTM Kapoho 27.5+ B
Romet JIG
Fuji Beartooth 27.5+ 1.1
Orbea Loki 27+ H30
Scott Genius 700 Tuned Plus
Stache, Kross Pure Trail and Smooth Trail,
Orbea Liki, Cannondale Bad Habit + as well
as Beast of the East 27+, Specialized Fuse,
Stumpjumper FSR Six Fattie, KTM Kapoho.
The wider tires, however pushed away the
chain and therefore resulted in wider hubs.
The width of the front one has also increased
- Boost standard front - 110, back 148 mm. As

the result, spokes are set at a greater angle
which increases the wheel rigidity. A wider
hub structure expands the rear triangle
construction, this is why a vast majority of
plus-wheeled bikes feature boost-hubs. This
technology, however is not exclusive for wide
tires. For instance, Trek has also used it in its
new models with conventional tyres.

The market of e-bikes has been increasing every year. Gary Fisher, one of the MTB
founding fathers, a designer and visionary
said only recently, „It’s going to be the next
big thing”. In the near future this will be
one of predominant trends in the bicycle
industry. Though cycling milieus still find
e-bikes controversial, motors which boost
the cyclists’ muscle power are mounted also
in more sophisticated designs. For example
in bikes for difficult-terrain rides, such as
Specialized Turbo Levo which boasts an
amazing integration degree. Trek Powerfly +
FS, Scott E-Genius, E-Spark also have them.
Haibike is a real record-breaker. The company offers a whole range of electric-assist
bicycles - from fatbikes to road bikes. Today,
centrally located crankshaft-mechanism motors have become a clear trend. As a result
the centre of gravity is concentrated in the
support area. The bike is more controllable
and its high mass is less noticeable, it does
not impose load on either wheel. Future
however belongs to structures in which the
electrical system (motor, battery, controls)
will be fully integrated into the frame. This
eliminates today’s solutions’ disadvantages
such as a very long rear triangle. It will allow
for a better weight distribution and improve
the bike’s aesthetics. At present, German’s
Bosch dominates the market of electric
motors for bicycles. Other brands do not intend to lose grounds. Market sees competitive solutions offered by Shimano, Yamaha
and many others. The Continental joins the
flock in 2016’s season.
City bikes segment is growing the fastest of all categories. Crowded cities, high
fuel prices, improving infrastructure for
Le Grand William
bicycles and healthy lifestyle craze have
made the bike a great alternative to the car
and public transport. City bikes, however
are of different characters. For commuters
the 28”-wheeled, slick-tires bicycles are the
best option; these have flat handlebars and
a sports-style position. These bikes are put
on the market by Kross (Noru, Seto, Inzai),
Romet (Mistral), Scott (SUB Speed), Schockblaze (Croxer man Cross), Viva (Extravaganza), Cannondale (Quick, Bad Boy). Ladies
opt for stylish bikes of sophisticated shapes
and colours, often equipped with baskets.
Perfect for an elegant ride. There are companies which specialize in such bikes and
target the whole product range for such
clients. Among them there are Electra, Cossack, Creme, Gazelle, Medano, Pin Up Girl,
Viva. There are companies whose portfolios
Giant Flourish FS 2
encompass ladies-targeted products. These
include Kross (Vivo and Classico model),
Romet (Vintage, Mixed, Cameo). In larger cities with larger distances, electric-assist bikes
have proven to be more popular. They enjoy
much greater popularity than their MTB
counterparts. E-city bikes can be found with
Cannondale, Giant, KTM, and Kreidler.

Świętokrzyskie
welcomes
cyclists!
Świętokrzyskie
boasts a diversified offer for cyclists - facts and
figures cannot lie.
In the region there
is a 3000-kilometre network composed of about
70 marked bike
and hiking routes.
However statistics
are hardly able to
present the experiences galore and the
landscape beauty
the Świętokrzyskie
Voivodeship offers
for all cyclists. Regardless the incentive a biker finds
to take to bikes in this region there
is something for
everyone.
zno; the educational trail
and showroom provide a great chance to
become acquainted with
the local flora and fauna
of Włoszczowa district.
The information you
acquire in Konieczo will
certainly help in discovering the beauty of local
forests. Local woodlands
abound with treasures
of history which remind
us of the land’s Second
World War turbulent
history.
The Yellow Bike Trail goes around Masłowski
mountain range, the Blue one sets off in Ciekoty and stretches as far as Wola Kopcowa,
the Green one leads from Ciekoty to Święta
Katarzyna. The routes go along asphalt and
soil-surfaced roads and offer unforgettable
views over the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
In the direct vicinity of Kielce there is
Maslow municipality; its bike trails follow
the footsteps of Stefan Żeromski who would
spend his childhood in the area. Ciekoty,
where the Żeromskis family manor house
used to be marks the beginning of the trails.
However Świętokrzyskie bike trails are
much more than mountains and hill
courses. The Włoszczowa area is a perfect
place for one or two-day trips. This marked
trail is called „Forests Around Włoszczowa”.
It starts in the forest tree nursery in Koniec-

Off-road enthusiasts,
amateurs of steep and
rocky paths going up and
down will certainly appreciate the Kielce „Forest
Stadium” route (with its
two professional loops
of 13 and 14 km) as well
as the steep slopes of Telegraph Mount. For
several years Telegraph has been holding
the sway in Kielce’s downhill cycling. The
woodlands trails mainly belong to the city’s
administrative area which makes them easily
accessible for cyclists who look for accommodation in the province’s capital city.

The trails in Końskie
are not difficult either.
Nature lovers, especially
ornithology aficionados
cannot resist a trip to
the Krasna Valley. In the
valley there is the 52-kilometre trail marked
green which mainly goes
along asphalt roads. Its
main attraction is the
„Upper Krasna” nature
reserve; owing to its
specific character it has
gained the „the Biebrza
river in miniature” name.
The area plays an important role in protection
programmes for rare
and threatened with
extinction species of
birds, primarily those in
hatching season such as the black and white
stork, black grouse and others. Other rare
migratory species, such as the ruff or the
redpol have also been found here.
Bike-related tourism is much more than
one-cyclist or group trails-traversing, these
are also events cut out for two-wheels lovers. Końskie Bike Marathon is particularly
interesting; participants can choose from
several route-options of various lengths
and difficulty degrees. Mountain biking fans
can also take part in the MTB Marathon
Cross series.
