Thank You, John!
The Chamber wishes to thank John
Smiley for his foresight and commitment the past six
years. John was one
of the Founding
Fathers of the
Clintonville Area
Chamber of
Commerce and has served on the Board of
Trustees for those initial six years, while
becoming the second President in 1996. The
first Chamber meeting was organized by
John, Prospect Bank, and Mars Foliano,
Edward Jones Investments and was held at
the Whetstone Library. Twelve people
attended that meeting. Six years later the
Chamber's membership is over 320 members.
Thank you again for helping to build this
Chamber into the success that it is today.
Letter From the President
Hello Clintonville Chamber Members!
The Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce
is starting its seventh year in promoting and
networking businesses, providing community
functions, and working to make the community grow. In the past year, we have produced
our fourth spring concert titled "Viva Las
Vegas" with Clintonville's own Mike Albert as
Elvis, our fourth Student Citizen Breakfast
recognizing middle school citizens from all the
Clintonville middle schools, the free concert
at the July 4th fireworks, the sixth annual
Chamber golf outing, and the second
"Clintonville for the Holidays" Passport program to entice everyone to shop in our fabulous Clintonville stores.
Our mission statement, "Dedicated to the
promotion and continuing development of
the Clintonville business community," is the
guideline behind every event and everything
we do in Clintonville. Together with the
Clintonville Area Commission,
we created a new organization,
Clintonville Incorporated, for
the purpose of carrying out the
High Street Market Study. In
2003, we will see the construction begin on the High St. revitalization as laid out by the
High Street Market Study.
Money for the Indianola Market
Study was approved by the city
as of December 2001. As the Chamber works
in conjunction with these other two
Clintonville groups along with the City of
Columbus, the business district of High St.
and Indianola Ave. will begin to improve and
grow into a business district that will match
the high standards of the residential neighborhoods of Clintonville. As the shopping malls
continue to move further and further out to
suburbia, the neighborhood businesses will
become more and more important to whom
"time is money." Your participation in the
Chamber, no matter how small or large, will
make Clintonville, not only a great place to
live, but a great place to shop. Become
Involved! Care About Your Community!
Have a happy and prosperous year. I look forward to meeting all of you this year.
Sharon Daye
2002 President

Mark your calendars now for a January 15th

Clintonville Area Chambers are teaming up

Arlington homes have a home office. 2.9%
of the area populations work from home and
4.1% are self-employed.
Reserve your spot by Thursday, January

Down From the Mountain to Clintonville:
Rhonda Vincent & The Rage
April 20, 2002. Save the date! This year's
Spring Concert, the Chamber's 5th, promises
to be a great event for every member of the
family. The centerpiece in what is being
described as a bluegrass mini-festival, is
Rhonda Vincent (IBMA's Entertainer of the
Year), who will be performing with her group,
The Rage, at the North High Auditorium.
Brenda Pinnell of Bernie's Garage and this
year's chairperson for the concert committee
tells us that we're sure to have a wonderful
evening.
program with Rhonda is One Riot One
Ranger, a bluegrass group with a big local following (and Chamber member, Carl Yaffey,
playing with them). Tickets at $20 are available
in January.
Growing up in a family of musicians, Rhonda
Vincent's been a performer since the age of 3.
She's well represented in the musical scene,
with a new CD released last April, a Xmas CD
and a Grammy Award, bluegrass category, to
her credit. According to Brenda, Don Amring
(WOSU Bluegrass Ramble and concert sponsor), is thrilled Vincent is coming. On the
