Clintonville Projects Receive Approval
wo important Clintonville development projects received approval from
the necessary governmental bodies last
month. The Don Casto Organization
received approval of a number of variances
for their Graceland project from the Board of
Zoning Appeals and Midland Atlantic
Properties received city council approval for
the Panera project between Weisheimer and
Dominion.
The Casto project is the first step in the
major revitalization of Graceland. The project will cover the southeast portion of the
center. It will include a major retail facility
for a proposed Target store, with smaller retail
shops facing High St. Casto will be working
with existing stores to facilitate their relocation during the construction process. The
Delawanda Residents Association joined with
the Chamber in offering strong support for
the project. John Bennett of the association
and Chamber Executive Director Ernie
T
Hartong, both spoke in favor of the project at
the BZA meeting.
Midland Atlantic and Panera Bread received
approval from Columbus City Council for
their project. Two buildings will be constructed on the site between Cord Camera
and Mesh Design. Key to the projects success
was the agreement between Midland Atlantic
and the Unitarian Church. The developer
will create a shared parking lot behind the
two buildings. Access to the lot will be from
High St. only, and traffic will not be permitted to "cut through" to Weisheimer.
Again, in the early stages of this project the
Chamber worked with the developer to
involve the residents of the area in several
meetings. As a result, some changes were
made to respond to residents concerns. Jeff
Raines, President of Bread of the World, the
local Panera franchise is also a Clintonville
resident.
They Came Cruisin’
On October 4th, they came cruisin' to
Clintonville. The Chamber's first "Cruise the
'Ville" sponsored by Seven Up and Big Bear was
an overwhelming success. Over 125 cars participated in the inaugural event and twenty five trophies provide by the North High Polar Bear
Alumni and event sponsors were awarded.
Highlight of the day was the first "Super Cruise"
down High Street from Graceland to Mozart's
and Big Bear for the awards presentation. Nine
local restaurants also were stops on the Poker
