City. One of those three industry leaders is Robert Levin, owner of Levin Furniture. This award
honors business leaders that personify the ideals of this nation and serve as an example to
others for their leadership, dedication and energy.
Member: AFLAC - Mike Fleming
Kudos: Mike and Lindsay Fleming welcomed their second child, Jameson Michael, into this
world on October 8th at 9lbs, 5oz. and 22” long. Congratulations proud parents!
Member: Medallion Wealth Management
Kudos: Medallion Wealth Management has been named one of Pittsburgh’s Coolest Offices.
Why it’s a cool office? The office space is filled with a variety of bright colors and incorporates
many modern design elements. It is also environmentally green. To continue with that
theme the company has created an open concept, with each office having at least one wall of
windows allowing for natural light and utilized glass walls with open door frames to continue
an unrestrictive flow. Their underlying color choices reflect their corporate culture, using blues
which represent trust, honesty and dependability, and light greens to reflect growth, vitality
and freshness. Congratulations!

Member: Embellished Images by CSDI
Kudos: Embellished Images by CSDI is an authorized dealer for The Gripstic. It is a huge money
saving item for the kitchen by sealing in freshness, keeping out air and making food last much
longer. A bag of chopped salad can last up to 9 days once opened. A bag of brown sugar
can last for years if used properly. It eliminates the “traditional” chip clip because it seals in
freshness and keeps out the air. It is not only for the kitchen, you can use it on your pet’s treat
bags, in the garden for your potting soil, etc. There is even a waterproof pouch with the gripstic
closure. You can put your cell phone in the pouch, close the closure and submerge it in water.
Your phone will stay dry and unharmed. This product is dishwasher and freezer safe and comes
with a Lifetime guarantee. For more information, contact Dina Denning at 724-863-4104.
Member: Amada Senior Care of Greater Pittsburgh
Kudos: Joe Spehar, CSA, with Amada Senior Care of Greater Pittsburgh, recently completed a
comprehensive course through the Society of Certified Senior Advisors® (SCSA) and has earned
the certification of Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®. The CSA designation in conjunction with
15 years of experience in healthcare means that seniors and their families now have a resource
they can rely on to meet their non-medical senior care needs. As a Certified Senior Advisor, Joe
Spehar has received the education and training to better serve senior clients. Joe is required to
participate in continuing education to ensure he is well educated on the changes and updates
that affect the senior home care industry.
Member: The Wooden Nickel Restaurant North Huntingdon

in North Huntingdon. We wish you many more successful years in our community!

Knowledge is Power
A New Kind of Secretary
Every business at some point has needed to hire an insurance agent, maybe an accountant,
or a repair-person, right? But are they considered your employees? Do you pay their taxes
or health care benefits? Do they come to you to request vacation or sick days? Do they
ask you for more paper, ink or other supplies when they run low? Of course not. They are
independent contractors that you hire on an as-needed basis.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone like that to help you with office tasks that you don’t
have time for or just really dislike doing? The answer might be to hire a Virtual Administrative
Assistant.
What is a Virtual Administrative Assistant?
A Virtual Administrative Assistant is someone who works from a location other than your
office. Most often they have a home office with their own computers, printers, fax machines
and anything else they need for their business. They are professionals who know how to
provide the support a business owner needs by using the web.
You might say, “Well this sounds great, but how can I use a virtual administrative assistant
(VAA) in my business?” Let’s say you are a small business owner and you need help
maintaining an online presence. Many virtual administrative assistants are experienced in
just that type of thing and can be your “go to” person for this task.
Article provided by Diana Smith of
Ability Virtual Administrative Assistant
Your VAA can submit your blog posts to Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. She can even research topics for you to blog about. Your
VAA can create graphics for your social media accounts, upload them for you, and track your company’s social media subscribers and
followers.
If you’re not ready for Facebook and Twitter, a VAA can also assist you with routine office tasks. If you use traditional mail to keep in
touch with your clients, a VAA could take on that task for you. She could also create or update forms, order supplies and have them
delivered, make travel arrangements, coordinate luncheons, create Power Point Presentations, manuals, marketing materials, the list is
endless.
How Do VAAs Charge For Their Services?
Well, that all depends on the VAA. The most common way is to charge an hourly rate then bill for the services provided. Some VAAs
offer packages that might include discounts. For example, a client could purchase 20 hours a month to be used for many different
projects, then the VAA submits a “time sheet” when the hours are met. Because the hours were purchased as a package and paid in
advance, the VAA may provide a discount off the usual rate.
It is important to feel comfortable with your VAA since you will be entrusting them with your business and possibly sensitive
information. Make sure they are trustworthy and check out their references as you would when hiring any contractor. Most VAAs will
offer a free phone meeting where you can discuss your needs and get a feel for whether or not you would work well together. Start
out by delegating small tasks to your VAA and see how it goes. Hopefully, in time, you will develop a comfort and trust with your VAA
which will free you to do more of what you want and love doing - focusing on your success.
