Whether you consider yourself a bow hunter, target shooter, or a traditional shooter, the club is a great place to hone your skills. In the last few weeks we have had a 50 target 3-D trail shoot, an OBH shoot and the Greater Oregon Safari. In August, we look forward to the upcoming Last Chance 3D Trail Shoot and the 3rd Leg of the King of the Valley Triple Crown. Please see page 2 for more details. Greetings fellow members and welcome to the return of the Cascadian Bowmen newsletter. My name is Scott Anstine, and I have recently volunteered to put together the monthly newsletter. As members you deserve to know what is going on with your club so you can be involved with this sport we all enjoy so much. My goal is to put out a newsletter each month that covers current and future events. All members are welcome to submit news, short stories, and photos that are related to archery or the club. There will also be a classified section for those Message from the President with archery related items for sale. In order to save time and money, the newsletter will be sent out via e-mail. I only have e-mail addresses for about half of our membership. So, if you talk to other The three moneydot winners from the Safari shoot members who posing with Peanut. are not yet receiving the newsletter, Send your articles, photos, please have them send and e-mail addresses to their e-mail addresses to me, and I will make sure [email protected]. they are added to the list. Platinum Sponsors The Safari is the biggest shoot of the year for the club I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped work to make the Safari shoot a success. Special thanks to Don and Bev Kouns, Martha Curl and Karl Okita for all their help. Clicking on a logo will take you to the sponsor’s website. Page 2 The Cascadian July/August 2008 Safari Raffle The raffle at the Safari was pretty popular. There were both some adult bows and kids bows among other great prizes. Some lucky dog won the Bowtech Guardian I had my eye on. Not everyone checked their tickets as we were left with a nice Relex bow no one claimed. Special congrats to Shailynn Pierce. She wanted to win the Reflex kid’s bow and bought herself some raffle tickets and ended up winning it. Way to go! Shailynn’s cousin, Spirit, won some artwork in the raffle, but ended up with a new Whisper Creek bow, when a pro shooter offered to trade prizes. Spirit was thrilled about getting a bow of her own. I did not get the name of the pro but she deserves a thumbs up for her generosity. Raffle winner Shailynn with her new bow. Bear Alert There has been a bear on the range recently. It dug into a couple of cedar bales close to the pond. In most cases bears give people a wide berth so there isn’t much to be concerned about. However, being aware of your surroundings and making noise as you walk the trails will keep both you and bears from surprising each other. I think a trail cam was set up to try and get a photo. No news yet. Upcoming Event! The Last Chance 50 3-D Trail Shoot and 3rd leg of the King of the Valley Triple Crown is coming up on August 2nd & 3rd. This shoot is a great way to start getting ready for bow season if you haven’t had a chance to get to one of the previous shoots. A $2 discount is offered to NFAA or OBH members who present their cards. Registration is from 7:30am—noon on Saturday, and from 7:30am— 11:00am on Sunday. Food will be available in the Cascadian Kitchen (closes at 2pm) Special thanks to Sunshine Anstine for her fantastic help with the design of the newsletter. I have several people to thank. First to Ben for installing the double sink and second to Jack Pierce for replacing the broken faucet. Then the biggest thanks to my regular volunteer, my daughter Brittni. Since we had OBH and the Safari back to back I need to thank everyone else who stepped up to help during one or both shoots including Shelby Dilworth, Jackie Pierce and her niece Spirit, Darlene Cockrum, Gladys & Penny Bearden and Ruth Payne. I think we all worked great as a team which helped contribute to the success in the kitchen over both of these shoots. The Safari is the biggest shoot of the year for the club and even with the registration being down from last year, the kitchen did significantly better as well as on the OBH shoot the weekend before. By Martha Curl Overall, we heard several compliments in regards to the kitchen, which we appreciate. Unfortunately, some were upset over the steak dinner. It is very difficult to read the minds of the shooters on who is going to eat and who is not. That is one reason why we ask for preregistration. Last year we ordered the same amount of steaks and had 30 left over and so many potatoes that we made hashbrowns the next morning. This year, there was not enough potatoes for everyone but we did accomodate with another salad. The corn on the cob was just a bonus and the bread was left over from the dinner on Friday evening so I understand there was not enough and I apologize. Consider pre-registration for the Safari next year to help out the kitchen. Thanks to everyone who helps support the kitchen!
