THANKS FOR BEING OUR - United Way of Union County
THANKS FOR BEING OUR SUPER HEROES! 0 2013-14 LIVE UNITED AWARDS MARCH 26, 2014 - UNION RURAL ELECTRIC THANK YOU! OUR 2013 AWARD WINNERS If raising money were easy, everyone would do it. Fundraising is a real challenge. It takes a special person to be a United Way Champion in a workplace. And the people in this room are special people. You took the extra time to plan and execute your campaign, distribute and collect materials, and organize groups to participate in our special events. It was well worth the effort. The award winners in the room today collectively raised over $700,000 this year. That’s 73 percent of United Way’s annual revenue and it makes possible the dozens of vital services thousands of Union County families rely on for help. You are our extended hands and feet on the “front lines” of fundraising. Thank you for taking your role so seriously, and for inspiring your co-workers to “LIVE UNITED!” GOLD CAMPAIGN AWARDS The team at Dayton Power & Light stays involved with United Way year-round, organizing a team to participate in the annual Community Care Day event each spring, building momentum for the fall campaign. 40% PARTICIPATION, OR AVERAGE GIFT OF $150, OR 100% CORPORATE MATCH * INDICATES THE WORKPLACE ACHIEVED RECORD LEVEL GIVING Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems * Technology Site Planners * Union County Auditor’s Office Union County Board of DD Union County Dept. of Job & Family Svcs. * Union County Family YMCA Union County Health Department Union County Prosecutor’s Office * Union County Senior Services Union County Sheriff’s Office Union Rural Electric * Veyance Technologies Allen Yurasek Merklin & Owens-Ruff Cannizzaro, Bridges, Jillisky & Streng City of Marysville Conrad Leibold Woerner & Company Dayton Power & Light Eufinger Law Offices * Fifth Third Bank Honda Lock R&D Honda of America, Mfg. NEWEST PARTNER AGENCY ALLOWS UNION COUNTY CHILDREN TO DO MORE THAN JUST SADDLE UP AND RIDE Many of the participants in the Discovery Riders program have families that do not know how to help their children overcome their social isolation or difficulties learning in traditional settings. Often they are children with developmental disabilities. “I had a child who had never had a full conversation with anyone other than her Mom and Dad,” said Amy Schaefer, Discovery Riders Program Director and a Certified PATH Instructor. “The first time she got on the horse, she fluently came out of her shell and had a conversation with the horse. Her speech therapist didn’t believe me. It was amazing!” Schaefer says the instructors simply facilitate what happens between the rider and the horse. What happens is a bond that develops between child and horse, through which the child follows and gives directions, becomes responsible, and builds self-confidence that transfers to other areas of the child’s life. UNION COUNTY RESIDENTS GETTING CONNECTED WITH RESOURCES VIA THE NEW 2-1-1 HOTLINE The new 24-hour, 7-day a week 2-1-1 hotline received 448 calls from Union County residents in its first year. 681 needs were identified by Helpline staff and referrals were made to 881 resources. The top three needs for which callers were seeking help included financial assistance, housing issues, and medical needs. “It is this emergency response function the Union County Health Department is most excited to see in Union County,” said Jason Orcena, Union County Health Commissioner. “Agencies like the health department can feed critical information about emergency response to the call center so that they can help us get lifesaving information to the public.” Helpline of Delaware Morrow and Union Counties staffs the hotline, maintain a database of available services, and update a website at www.unioncounty211.org.
