A 70th Birthday Celebration Unlimited Possibilities It isn’t very often that Holy Angels has the opportunity to celebrate a resident’s 70th birthday. Butch, who has been a resident at Holy Angels since 1998, currently lives in our Oakcrest ICF (Intermediate Care Facility) group home. Regina Moody, Holy Angels President/CEO noted, “Butch has brought such joy to our staff and residents through his music and peaceful countenance. Today we celebrate his loving and joyful life.” Unconditional Love. Unlimited Possibilities Unconditional Love. Unlimited Possibilities Unconditional Love. Unlimited Possibilities Unconditional Love. Blind since birth – Butch has had minimal formal music training – once he hears a piece of music – he can play it – from classical to modern day tunes. However, his favorites are the gospel songs and Christian hymns. 6RLWZDVRQO\¿WWLQJWKDWKH received a new piano for his birthday and was quick to try it out for all to enjoy. spiritual,Possibilities physical, Unlimited Throughout the celebration many of his guests commented on his gentle spirit and fun loving personality. They both took turns rocking and IHHGLQJKLP+LVOLIHKDVEHHQ¿OOHGZLWK PXVLF±EHJLQQLQJDWDJHIRXUZKHQKH¿UVW displayed his wonderful gift by playing “Jesus Loves Me” on a child’s piano. His family noted that Butch is the happiest and the best cared for now than at any other time in his life. 6/21/2012 7:47:01 AM 20th Anniversary Angel Bowl – Shamrock Bowl $ORWKDVKDSSHQHGVLQFHZKHQWKH¿UVWERZOLQJEDOOZDVFHUHPRQLRXVO\ thrown down the center lane and Holy Angels launched Angel Bowl. 20 years ago, it was a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at George Pappas’ Liberty Lanes. Regina Moody, Holy Angels President/CEO stated, “It has been a privilege for me to work alongside of these dedicated staff members. All will be missed – especially by the residents who they worked with for so many years – but they will always be a member of the Holy Angels family.” Plans to visit with grandchildren, travel and spend time with family are in the works for these newly retired citizens. Jan Bilas, member of the support services team, Belmont – employed for 14 years; Lil Sherrill, 3rd shift Death of Board Member, Kevin Loftin Great Loss to Holy Angels. It is with deep sadness that we share with you the tragic death of a devoted friend of Holy Angels. Kevin Loftin, chairman of our Finance Committee, a former Board chair and active Board member for many years, was killed in an auto accident on Wednesday, February 22nd, in Belmont. Kevin is known in the community of Gaston County as a former mayor of Belmont, as a man of faith always ready to pray before meetings and as a person who shared his wisdom in business matters to guide the careful stewardship of our resources. He was admired and respected by many at Holy Angels and throughout Gaston County. But above all Kevin loved the mission and ministry of Holy Angels and made it his own mission, always ready to share the story of Holy Angels in words of great eloquence with passion. We can be assured that he has taken his love for us to the throne of God’s glory in heaven. ,WLV¿WWLQJWKDW.HYLQZKRKRQRUHGWKHIHDVWVDQGKRO\VHDVRQVRQWKH&KULVWLDQFDOHQGDUZRXOGSDVVRQIURPKLV HDUWKO\OLIHRQ$VK:HGQHVGD\WKH¿UVWGD\RI/HQW/HQWLVDVHDVRQRISUD\HUIXOSUHSDUDWLRQWRFHOHEUDWHWKH5LVHQ Lord at Easter. We trust that Kevin is now sharing in the graces of Easter and celebrating life eternal with his God. This was the spiritual goal of his life. Kevin will be deeply missed and held in the hearts of many while always remembered as a devoted friend of Holy Angels. Kevin, may your rest be this day in peace and your dwelling place in the paradise of God. Leave A Gift - Share The Legacy Every person has the opportunity to make a difference… whether as a volunteer or a donor. Either way you make a positive impact in the lives you touch. At Holy Angels we are dependent on our donors to help us not only meet WKH¿QDQFLDOFKDOOHQJHVZHIDFHHDFKGD\EXWDOVRWKH ¿QDQFLDOIXWXUHIRUWKHFKLOGUHQZKRZLOOQHHGRXUVHUYLFHV in the years to come. It is easy to leave a gift to Holy Angels in your will. We can provide your attorney with the proper language to include Holy Angels in your estate plans. Feel free to call us at 704-825-4161. Perhaps someday in the future there will be no need for a facility and program like Holy Angels. There may come a time when children will be born with no disabilities and our very specialized care will no longer be needed. This does not seem to be a possibility, right now. Parents and families still call us and ask if we can care for their son or daughter. We plan to be here for many more years to come, taking care of God’s most fragile children. You can help to ensure our future with a thoughtful planned gift. Thank you, in advance, for helping to make a difference. It’s not hard to do – and will be remembered with love and gratitude long after we have received your heartfelt gift – a gift that, over time, can grow and help secure the future of Holy Angels. A simple gift left to Holy Angels, in your will, can help ensure we will be here for families and children in need. Your will is an expression of your wishes, of how you desire your affairs to be handled at death. 4 Holy Angels Spring 2012FINAL.indd 4 6/21/2012 7:47:09 AM Volunteers – Extraordinary People with Extraordinary Hearts Holy Angels presented the 2012 Volunteer Awards, during the 22nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception on Tuesday, April 17th, at Holy Angels in Belmont, NC. This is a statewide organization with a diverse membership of providers of MH/DD/SA services and supports. The council serves as an advocate for and represents the provider’s perspective at the North Carolina General Assembly and the Divisions of the NC DHHS – which is primarily the funding needs for the providers. Our spring appeal is well underway and many of you have responded to our request for your support.
