Memorial Day 2014 - Elmhurst Cemetery Who kept the faith and fought the fight; The glory theirs, the duty ours. ~ Wallace Bruce MEMORIAL DAY 2014 Elmhurst Cemetery HISTORY The German Lutheran Cemetery was established in 1858 by Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saint Paul. In 1872 the current location on Dale Street was purchased and in 1920 was renamed to Elmhurst Cemetery to reflect the increased ethnic inclusion. The cemetery remained much as it was almost 100 years ago. Trinity created Saint John’s German Evangelical Lutheran Church as a “daughter congregations” in 1871, followed by Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1873. Just ten years ago, Trinity and Emanuel merged to become Crown of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church.
