Children’s Storytimes—Children’s Series Children’s Storytimes Children’s Series Children’s Storytimes Each storytime program is full of entertaining, age-appropriate stories and activities that encourage literacy development and help your child prepare to be a skilled reader. Caregivers attend with children for all storytimes. Barks for Books Practice your reading skills by reading to a therapy dog! (Grades K-5). Dress for making a mess! (Ages 5 and up). September and October sessions will be held at Willoughby Library. November and December sessions will be held at Willoughby United Methodist Church. Thursdays, Sep 15, Oct 20, Nov 17, Dec 15 10 or 11:30 am Homeschool Science Adventures Each month we will cover an aspect of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) with hands on activities. (Ages 6 and up). September and October sessions will be held at Willoughby Library. November and December sessions will be held at Willoughby United Methodist Church. Willoughby Hills Minecraft Art Practice your artistic skills by creating Minecraft-inspired paintings! (Grades 3-6). Tue Sep 6 6:30 pm Eastlake Super Happy Halloween at Lost Nation Sports Park Join Willoughby Library at Lost Nation Sports Park for a super Halloween celebration! Activities will include a haunted house, use of the fields/courts, crafts and refreshments including pizza and candy! Thu Oct 27 6-8 pm Lost Nation Sports Park December Miracle on Erie Street Stop by the Willoughby Library craft room at Willoughby United Methodist Church when you come Sing and Stretch Yoga with Sing and Swing to Historic Downtown Willoughby for the Miracle on Experience this one time demo presentation of Sing and Erie Street! Swing, LLC’s Sing and Stretch yoga class! Ages 1-5 attend with caregiver. Please bring a towel or mat. Space is limited Sat Dec 3 10 am-2 pm Willoughby United Methodist Church so register early! Teen Programs Special Events September Willoughby Otaku Anime Club Join fellow Otaku at the Willoughby Library to watch anime, discuss anime & manga and draw our own characters. You can even cosplay if you want. Refreshments will be served. (Ages 13 and up). Saturdays, Sep 3, Oct 1 1-4 pm Willoughby Tales from the Eerie Shore Join us for an evening of storytelling with award-winning authors, ghost hunters and para-historians Theresa Argie and Cathi Weber-aka The Haunted Housewives. It’s a spine-tingling tour of the most interesting paranormal hotspots of the Northcoast and beyond! (Ages 10 and up). Wed Sep 21 6 pm Eastlake Teen Art Club Do you love to create art but never get the chance? Join other art-loving teens for Art Club where we will focus on a different artist or style each session. Grades 6-12 (Ages 11-18.) Thursdays, Sep 22, Oct 27, Nov 17 6:30-8:30 pm Eastlake OMG! Do You Believe What They Did on “The Walking Dead” or "Fear the Walking Dead?" Even though the Willoughby Library is going through some renovations, we'll still get together (somewhere in the building) and talk about our favorite programs “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead.” We can even continue to play Walking Dead Monopoly. Come join author Jennifer Kelly and find out your writing style and participate in a writing activity to help get over creative blocks. Mon Oct 3 6-7 pm Willoughby Hills On October 8th, libraries from across the country will host local author events to celebrate Indie Author Day. Join Willowick Library from 12-3 pm and meet local authors from Northeast Ohio who will be greeting the public and signing & selling their books. We will also be hosting a panel discussion from 1-2 pm where they will share insights on the writing & research process, tips on how to publish and market your book along with a question & answer session. Books will be available for purchase by cash or check. PANELISTS INCLUDE: November Teen Calligraphy Learn basic italic printing using special felt tip pens. Your writing will look like a work of art! Wed Sep 7 7-8 pm Willowick Thu Nov 10 3-4 pm Willoughby Hills Office 2013: Excel for Beginners Learn how to create a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. The program will cover how to navigate Excel and create basic formulas. This class is hands-on. Computers are provided. Wed Nov 16 6:30–8 pm Eastlake iPad Basics for Beginners Learn how to navigate your iPad. This class will cover apps, customizing the home screen and searching the web using Safari. Please bring your iPad, Apple ID and Apple ID password. Thu Sep 15 10–11:30 am Willowick Office 2013: Intermediate Excel Learn about the complex tools available in Excel 2013. Learn how to filter, sort and view data. This class will also cover formulas and functions. This class is hands-on. Computers are provided. Prerequisite: Excel for Beginners class or familiarity with Excel. Wed Dec 7 6:30–8 pm Eastlake Intermediate iPad Learn how to use some popular features in the pre-installed Apple apps. This class will cover downloading & using apps. Please bring your iPad, Apple ID and Apple ID password. Basic knowledge is required. Mon Sep 19 7–8 pm Willoughby Moving to the Cloud - Google Drive & Google Docs Learn how to store and create documents online using Google’s free services. Basic computer knowledge is required.
