read a book, play baby games, and dance! Join us for this wonderful
opportunity to network and share with other parents and caregivers.
Why Read to Babies?
It's never too early to begin reading to a child. Babies' brains
grow rapidly. Reading to babies right from birth (or even during
pregnancy) stimulates their minds, develops language skills and lays
a foundation for later reading success. Babies who are read to also
discover that books are fun, become good listeners, understand
their world better, and experience beautiful art in picture books.
They grow into children who love to read when they experience the
warmth and pleasure of cuddling with parents and listening to
nursery rhymes and stories.

Music Powers the Brain
Simply singing with a child connects neural pathways, and increases
the ability to retain information. In other words, it builds memory. Music
builds a strong sense of rhythm, which leads to a better ability to understand and produce language. Singing develops spatial reasoning, which allows children to recognize patterns and later helps in problem‐solving.
Songs are rich in vocabulary and by nature build phonological awareness.
Music Influences Us
You can use music to influence children in positive ways. Using music, you can change a mood, stimulate creativity, and direct energy toward
movement or stillness.
Music Connects Us
Because music is a language, it can bring together a diverse group
of people, and by simply singing together, give them a shared experience.
You don’t need to know what the words mean to understand the intention
of a song.
Music Comforts Us
Repeating the same songs give children security, and memories
that can be called on to comfort for a lifetime. When caregivers sing with
their children, they are calmed and comforted as well.
Lullabies
Sing a lullaby to calm a child, rock a child to sleep, or for snuggle time.
I Bounce You Here
I bounce you here, I bounce you there,
I bounce you, bounce you, everywhere.
(Bounce child on knees)
I tickle you here, I tickle you there,
I tickle you, tickle you, everywhere.
(Tickle child)
I hug you here, I hug you there,
Hush, Little Baby
I hug you, hug you, everywhere!
(Sing with “mama,” “papa,” or alternate)
(Hug child)
Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat,
And if that billy goat don't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
And if that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock
(Rock child back and forth on your knees)
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
I'm a little cuckoo clock.
Tick-tock, tick-tock,
Now the time is one o'clock.
CUCKOO!
(Lift child once)
** Repeat with “two o'clock” (Lift twice), etc. **
ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM!
All the Pretty Little Horses
(rock baby back and forth on lap)
ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM,
We’re going to the moon.
ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM,
We’re going to the moon.
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
If you would like to take a trip,
Go to sleep little baby, go to sleep little baby.
Climb aboard my rocket ship.
When you wake, you shall have cake,
ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM,
And all of the pretty little horses,
We’re going to the moon.
All of the pretty little horses.
5,4,3,2,1…
Blacks and Bays, Dapple and Grays,
BLAST OFF!
All of the pretty little horses.
(lift baby up in air)
All of the pretty little horses.
So, hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleep little baby, go to sleep little baby.
Love Me Tender
Inside A Rocket Ship
Inside a rocket ship,
(wrap arms snug around child)
Just enough room,
Here comes the countdown...
Love me tender, love me sweet, never let me go.
5,4,3,2,1...
You have made my life complete, and I love you so.
(Hold up five fingers and countdown)
ZOOOOOOM!
(Lift child in air)
Love me tender, love me true, all my dreams fulfilled,
For my darlin' I love you, and I always will.
Sunshine
Mama’s Little Baby Loves Dancing
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
(sing with “mama,” “papa,” or other)
You make me happy when skies are gray.
(Dance in place with baby)
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away.
Mama’s little baby loves dancing, dancing,
Mama’s little baby loves turning ‘round!
May There Always Be Sunshine
Mama’s little baby loves dancing, dancing,
May there always be sunshine,
Mama’s little baby loves to boogie on down!
May there always be blue skies,
May there always be family,
May there always be me.
* Repeat with other things your child loves *
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are.
Lean to the left, lean to the right,
Hug that baby nice and tight!
Lean to the left, lean to the right,
Hug that baby nice and tight!
Mama’s little baby loves dancing, dancing,
Mama’s little baby loves turning ‘round!
Mama’s little baby loves dancing, dancing,
Mama’s little baby loves to boogie on down!
Let’s Take The Smooth Road
Stay Awake
(With baby on lap, rock forward and back)
Stay awake, don't rest your head,
Don't lie down upon your bed.
Let’s take the smooth road,
While the moon drifts in the skies,
The smooth road, the smooth road.
Stay awake, don't close your eyes.
Let’s take the smooth road,
Though the world is fast asleep,
All the way to town.
Though your pillow's soft and deep,
You're not sleepy as you seem,
Let’s take the bumpy road…
Stay awake don't nod and dream,
(bump baby on lap)
Stay awake, don't nod and dream.
Let’s take the rough road…
(gently shake baby on lap)
Let’s take the curvy road…
(turn baby in circles on lap)
Bed Is Too Small
Bed is too small for my tired head,
Give me a hilltop with trees,
Tuck a cloud up under my chin,
Oh, blow the moon out...please.
Jack Be Nimble
(Take a moment and blow softly)
(Bounce child on lap to rhythm)
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick,
Rock me to sleep in a cradle of leaves,
Jack jump over the candlestick.

(Lift child up)
Tuck a cloud up under my chin,
** Substitute “Jack” for your child’s name **
Oh, blow the moon out...please.
(Blow softly on child)

Popcorn
(bounce baby on knees)
Popcorn, popcorn,
Sizzling in the pan.
Shake it up, shake it up,
Baby mine, don't you cry.
Bam, bam, bam!
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
Popcorn, popcorn,
Never to part, baby of mine.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat
(Rock child forward and backward)
Row, row, row your boat,
Mr. Moon
Mr. Moon, Mr. Moon, you're out to soon,
The sun is still in the sky,
Gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
Go back to bed, and cover your head,
And wait for the day to go by.
My Paddle
(Rock child forward and backward)
My paddle's keen and bright,
Flashing with silver,
Follow the wild goose flight,
Dip, dip, and swing.
The Man in the Moon
Dip, dip and swing her back,
The man in the moon, looked out of the moon,
Flashing with silver,
Looked out of the moon and said,
Follow the wild goose track,
It's time, I think, for all good children
Dip, dip and swing.
To think about going to bed.
Dip, dip and swing.
Wagon
Hey Diddle-Diddle
(Bounce child on lap on "Bump")
Hey diddle-diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
Bumping up and down in my little red wagon,
The cow jumped over the moon.
Bumping up and down in my little red wagon,
The little dog laughed, to see such sport,
Bumping up and down in my little red wagon,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
Let's ride off together.
