The Holy Father’s Intention
for January
 Universal: Interreligious Dialogue
That sincere dialogue among men
and women of different faiths may
produce the fruits of peace and
justice
 Evangelization: Christian Unity
That by means of dialogue and
fraternal charity, and with the grace
of the Holy Spirit, Christians may
overcome divisions.
Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the
heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees
Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze
freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in
created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured
Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to
each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan
woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the
Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that
your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel
compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel
sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of
us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the
Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy;
you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.
This is the year to become more merciful in our own lives and bring God’s mercy to others. Divine Mercy Parish and the Diocese
of Sacramento will help in assisting our parishioners throughout the Year of Mercy.

Vocation Ministry
Holy Hour:
Bishop Jaime Soto will lead a Holy Hour in Spanish for
Vocations and Religious Life here at Divine Mercy on
Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 7:30 pm.
Join us for a ten-week Bible study beginning
Tuesday, January 12, 2016
9:30 am -11:30 am Narthex
:
Friday, January 15, 2016
7:30 pm -9:30 pm in Portable Room P9
We will study the Prophets: Hosea, Jonah,
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Haggai
and Malachi. They afflict the comfortable
and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return
to our covenant relationship with God. They
urge us to repentance, warn us of the
dangers of sin, and announce the blessings
of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak
to us even today, as they draw us closer to
our heavenly Bridegroom, and show us how
to share him with others.
A Holy Hour is an uninterrupted hour of prayer and meditation in the
presence of the Blessed Sacrament. It is an affirmation of our faith in
the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. A Vocation is the
calling from God to follow a particular way of life. Although the term
has a broad meaning, it has come to refer more specifically to the
calling to religious life and the priesthood. Please join us as we pray
for those discerning the call to priestly or religious life.

CIA
Catholics In Action
CIA is a community of youth who
desire to become closer to God by
living the faith through prayer, study
and service. “We put these works
into action.”
Works of Mercy
 Clothe
the Naked
There is a scene from the movie,
“Entertaining
Angels:
The
Dorothy Day Story” (a film about
the life of Dorothy Day, the
journalist turned social activist
and founder of the Catholic
Worker
newspaper)
when
Dorothy joins her mentor, Peter
Maurin in the washing of the feet
of a homeless man. As Peter struggles in taking off the man’s
shoes, you see the man in pain as his shoes have become stuck
to his bare feet. Eventually, Peter washes his feet and gives him
his own shoes to wear. For January, the CIA will be holding a
sock drive for the homeless. Please stay posted for the details.
 Bury
Ministry
We would like to invite all of
Divine Mercy College students
who will be home for Christmas break
to attend the 8:30 am Mass
on Saturday, January 9th
followed by breakfast with Fr. Soane.
This will be a wonderful time to discuss your college life,
reconnect with friends, and receive a blessing for the
New Year. We encourage all college students to wear
their school t-shirts/sweatshirts.
To prepare for this special time with Father Soane,
please RSVP with Lillian, or the Parish Office with how
many college students will be attending. Thank you!
Events
the Dead and Pray for the Dead
For the Feast of the Holy Innocents, we went
to Saint Mary’s Cemetery and cleaned graves,
put up fallen Christmas decorations, and
placed Christmas bows on undecorated
graves of the young lives that were taken too
soon. We prayed for those souls.
 Baby
Bottle Project (Shelter the
Homeless, Counsel the Doubtful,
Comfort the Sorrowful . . . )
Through the month of January, we will be continuing to collect
loose change and paper money for the Bishop Gallegos
Maternity Home. THANK YOU to all of the CFF Families that are
participating.
 Medicine
Bottles for Malawi Drive (Visit the Sick)
We are collecting empty prescription
medicine bottles (labels removed) for
the people of Africa. They often only
have a piece of paper to keep their
valuable medication in. Something so
disposable to us is so useful to
someone else. There is a box in the
Narthex where you can drop off the
medicine bottles. A huge THANK
YOU to Donald and Agnes Bard for
their wonderful donation, God bless you!

Looking for some peace and quiet in your life?
We have a Holy Hour at 3:00 pm every Friday.
We expose Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Pray
the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and then have silent
prayer and adoration until closing the hour with
Benediction. All are welcome to spend an hour in
silent renewal with Jesus.
We will join youth from around the diocese for a day of prayer and formation as we head to Walk for Life in San Francisco. Each bus will
have a speaker to lead a short formation session and halfway to San Francisco, the speakers will switch buses so all teens hear the
message from all the speakers. Guest speakers on the bus will include: Doris Perez, Katie Smith and Deacon Jeremy Santos.
After the Walk for Life, we will head to Pier 39 for shopping and dinner before heading back to Sacramento. The cost for the trip is $25
per person.
