T
he 5-foot-7, 160-pound Alvarez
was a key component in the
Colonials going 13-0 and winning
the Division 1A Super Bowl over
Westfield. The win cemented the
first perfect season in Shrewsbury’s
history and also earned Terry Walles’
Colonials the distinction of being the
first team in Central Mass. to record
13 wins in a season. Alvarez rushed
for 1,041 yards on 181 carries and scored 11 touchdowns for Shrewsbury and was named the Division 1
East Offensive MVP. Alvarez also was named the
team’s offensive MVP. He holds the school record for
most consecutive years with a kick return touchdown.
The Colonials’ come-from-behind, 21-17, victory over
Westfield in this year’s Super Bowl was his most memorable sports moment. Alvarez also excels in indoor
and outdoor track for Shrewsbury, and is a four-year
veteran of both teams. He is the son of Toby and
Steve Alvarez of Shrewsbury.
T
he 6-foot-1, 200-pound Bishop
led the Warriors to the Division 2
playoffs before falling to Shepherd
Hill, as Bishop established himself
as one of the premier wide receivers
in Central Mass. With quarterback
Willy Kempton throwing to him,
Bishop led the area by catching 54
passes for 1,012 yards and 10
touchdowns, which earned him
Division 2 East’s Offensive MVP award. It was the
second consecutive season Bishop led Central Mass.
in receiving, as he recorded 739 yards and 10 TDs in
2006. A co-captain for first-year coach Phil Schiloski,
Bishop leaves Nipmuc with the all-time record for
touchdowns and receiving yards. Bishop is also a
standout baseball and basketball player for the Warriors, and while he is unsure of where he will attend
college, Bishop does want to play sports there.
Bishop also made 14 tackles and one interception on
defense. He is the son of Joe and Cindi Bishop of
Mendon.

T
he 6-foot, 205-pound Douglas
helped the Red Raiders to a 9-3
mark and a spot in the Division 1A
playoffs before losing to undefeated
Shrewsbury in a thriller. One of the
top blocking tight ends in the area,
Douglas helped the Red Raiders
amass a staggering 387 points this
year. Douglas is more known for his
prowess on the defensive side of
the ball, earning Division 1 North all-star honors as a
defensive end. The Fitchburg co-captain also earned
a spot on the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise’s all-star
team for the last two seasons. Douglas is also a standout on the Red Raiders’ indoor and outdoor track
teams, earning team MVP honors last spring. Douglas
enjoys weightlifting, watching television, sleeping and
relaxing in his spare time. He is undecided on where
to attend college next fall. Douglas feels this year’s
25-21 win over St. John’s — a game Fitchburg trailed,
21-6, was his most memorable sports moment. He is
the son of Tim and Victoria Douglas of Winchendon.
he 5-foot-7, 165-pounder
rushed his way to a Central
Mass.-best 1,881 yards on 264
carries as he helped Fitchburg to
a spot in the Division 1A playoffs.
Gomez scored 21 touchdowns and
was named the Offensive MVP in
the Division 1 North. Despite being
plagued by injuries at the end of
the season, Gomez was one of
the more exciting running backs in the area, and
rushed for more than 90 yards in every regularseason game and surpassed 100 in all but two.
Gomez also broke the 200-yard barrier five times
this year, including a torching of North Middlesex
for 283 yards and four TDs. Also a member of
Fitchburg’s indoor and outdoor track teams, Gomez
recalls getting into a varsity game as a freshman as
his most memorable sports moment. Undecided on
where he will attend college, Gomez enjoys relaxing
in his spare time. He is the son of Mayra Reyes of
Westford.
he 5-foot-7, 170-pound Halley
rewrote the Shepherd Hill record
books, amassing 1,951 yards on
193 carries and scoring 25 touchdowns. Halley now is the school’s
leader in rushing yards in a season,
career rushing yards, points in a
season, consecutive 100-yard
games, touchdowns in a season
and yards per carry (10.11). Halley
amassed 1,881 yards in the regular season and finished second in Central Mass. Halley was named the
MVP of the Division 2 West and was the running back,
defensive back, kicker and punter for the Chris Lindstrom’s Rams, who captured the Division 2 Super
Bowl in a thrilling, 34-21, come-from-behind win over
East Longmeadow. While he is undecided on where
to attend college, he hopes to pursue a career in
sports management. His father, David, played football
and baseball at Oxford High before graduating in

Kimber finished 10th in passing in
Central Mass., throwing for 1,256
yards and 20 touchdowns while
completing 81 of 131 passes to
earn the Division 1 North MVP
award. Kimber led Fitchburg to a spot in the Division 1A playoffs before the Red Raiders fell on a
last-minute field goal to Shrewsbury. Kimber passed
for 100 yards or more in nine games and threw for
four touchdowns in a win over St. Bernard’s. Kimber, a standout basketball player for the Red Raiders, has been named to all-star teams for the past
three years in football and two seasons in basketball. Kimber, who is undecided on where to attend
college, calls this year’s comeback win over St.
John’s as his most memorable sports moment. He
is the son of Jerry and Eileen Kimber of Fitchburg.
T
he 6-foot, 155-pound Martinez
finished second in receiving in
Central Mass, catching 44 passes

all-star last winter in basketball. Only a junior, Martinez
has yet to think about college plans but hopes to
become a police officer after he graduates. Martinez
enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends
and family in his spare time. A football starter since
freshman year for Frank Koumanelis’s team, Martinez
feels the best memories are coming for Southbridge,
as he and fellow Super Teamer Tyler Ramsey hope to
make the Pioneers a team to watch next fall. He is the
son of Luz M. Pietri of Southbridge.

of 1,000-yard Leominster rushers,
including Adam Cordio, Anthony
Bizzotto, Jonathan Hernandez and
this year’s duo of Alex Rivera and
Alex Medina, who combined for
more than 1,500 rushing yards. This season, Leominster came on late and took a series of must-win
games as the Blue Devils captured Division 1 North
and defeated Holy Name in the playoffs before falling
to Longmeadow for the third consecutive season.
Salisbury played baseball as a freshman, but switched
to volleyball as a sophomore and was named the
offensive MVP that season and team MVP. He enjoys
hunting, paintball and pickup sports in his spare time.

season for the Panthers, earning
the Division 1 East’s League MVP
honors after finishing third in Central

MVP awards for his performance in
a Thanksgiving Day win over Hudson, as the co-captain accounted
for six TDs — three throwing and three rushing — while
racking up 155 yards rushing and 259 yards passing
as the Panthers rolled to a 42-28 victory. He is also a
basketball standout for the Panthers. Undecided on a
college choice, Carter hopes to play football when he
gets there. Among Carter’s highlights this year was a
last-minute touchdown strike to Lane Garvey to push
the Panthers past Algonquin, 27-26, in what he considers his most memorable sports moment. Carter
also orchestrated another last-minute comeback the
following week against Burncoat. He is the son of
Steve and Teresa Carter of Marlboro.
T
he only returning Super Teamer,
the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Tozer
has been a rock at left tackle for
Mike Pucko’s Naps, as for the third
consecutive year Holy Name reached the postseason. Tozer flourished
in the double-wing offense and
provided key blocks for many notable running backs, including Emil
Igwenagu, Wally Derosier and Dominique Price as a junior and Kevin Greene, Eric
Agyeman, Billy Derosier and Elizio Marchezi this year
as the unit neared 3,000 yards on the ground. Tozer
was named to the Division 2 all-star team last year and
the Division 1 East all-star team this year. While he is
undecided on where to attend college, he hopes to
become a successful business owner after he graduates. Tozer has played lacrosse for the last three
years at Holy Name. Winning Holy Name’s first Super
Bowl in 2005 — a 37-12 win over Wahconah — was
his most memorable sports moment. He is the son of
Judy and Mark Tozer of Worcester.

he 5-foot-9, 158-pound Wheeler
helped the Aztecs to the Division 3 East playoffs as Assabet
finished 10-2 but fell to eventual
Super Bowl champion Valley Tech
in the postseason. Wheeler was
named the Division 3 East’s Defensive MVP and earned a spot on
the Colonial Athletic League all-star
team for the past three years. A

including five straight in the fifth and final set. That
thrilling win is Ashton’s most memorable sports

state final. The two-year varsity starter compiled 243

Milford go 17-3 in the regular season and 21-4 overall. She will do her best to help coach Linda Zacchilli’s

The daughter of Carol Winn and Arthur Carr of Westboro, Carr is undecided on a college but would like to
