The John Brown House is one of the oldest and grandest houses in
Providence. It was built in 1788 by John Brown, a merchant, patriot,
politician, and slave trader. The Brown family was one of the wealthiest
and most influential families of the day, and they had equally important
visitors including George Washington and Abigail Adams. Today, visitors will
experience what life was like in the 18th century, and learn how Providence
became the city that it is today.
Activity: When he was a boy, George Washington wrote a list of Rules of
Civility & Decent Behavior. Read a few of Washington’s rules and decide if we
still follow them today. What other rules are important?
1. Treat everyone with respect.
2. Do not start what you cannot finish. Keep your promises.
3. Kill no vermin or pests in the company of others.
4. Do not take so big a bite that you must chew with your mouth open.
importantes incluyendo a George Washington y Abigail Adams.
boca abierto
