Emergency Assistance
“Elaine” is 92 years old and retired from Lynchburg
General Hospital. The house she lives in is over 100
years old and was in need of quite a few repairs,
however, it is her home. When Elaine put in an
application for some repairs, Interfaith knew we
would be able to help her. Thanks to the help of
volunteers who put in several hundred hours of their
time, Interfaith was able to help Elaine with a
wheelchair accessible ramp, made accessibility
modifications to her bathroom, repaired her kitchen
sink, repaired flooring to prevent a fall, and fixed
leaks in her roof. With the help she received from
Interfaith Outreach and the support of her family,
Elaine will be able to stay in her home.
“Joyce” is 60 years old. She received disability benefits for years until she was able to find a full time job
that she could do well even with her disabilities. She
had been working full time for 10 years when her
daughter and son in law hit a rough spot and needed
somewhere to stay. The added expenses were too
much and Joyce fell behind on her electric bill and
her service was disconnected. Soon after, she
became ill and was hospitalized. Interfaith helped her
and her case worker pull together the money she
needed to get her electricity turned back on when
she came home from the hospital. Your support
helps people like Joyce who do the best they can
every day and sometimes just need a hand up.
Progressive Release
VIP Program
“Kevin” worked for a construction company. He
showed up to work on time every day, did his job
well, and never complained. When the project his
company was working on was finished, Kevin did not
have work. After that he had a hard time finding a job
because of his felony conviction. He continued looking
for a job and was finally hired but it came with a catch;
he would have to provide his own tools. He didn’t
know what to do next. He had been out of work for
weeks and certainly didn’t have the money to buy
those tools. He was a client of Interfaith Outreach and
worked with Steve Monetti. Interfaith helped him
purchase the tools that he needed along with a good
pair of work boots. Thanks to the Progressive Release
program, Kevin was able to return to work.
“Betty” suffers from retinitis pigmintosa and has been
legally blind since 1977. Last year she suffered a fall
and broke her hip. The injury required months of
physical therapy to regain her ability to walk on her
own. Without being able to drive, Betty had no way
to get to her physical therapy appointments.
Interfaith was able to step in and help. We organized
volunteers to take Betty to her appointments two to
three times a week for nine months. Betty has now
completed her physical therapy and regained her
mobility. The assistance our volunteer drivers
provide is critical to our transportation participants
being able to get the medical care they need without
having to pay for a ride.
Toiletry Bags and Cleaning Buckets
Sorting toiletry items and assembling toiletry bags and
cleaning buckets.
Vision Information and Programs
Driving people with visual impairments to and
from medical appointments. Criminal background
check, driving record check and good
insurance required.

repairs such as painting, building ramps, and cleaning.
