New York - September 16, 2008 Honorees Dinner A Fantastic Showcase of New York Culinary Talent! The New York Rising Stars Award Gala celebrated New York’s culinary best and brightest – the up-and-coming chefs, pastry chefs, mixologist and sommelier who are changing the face of New York City’s food. The tasting gala and awards ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History drew an audience of over 600 industry professionals and foodies. Each Rising Star prepared one of their signature dishes for the guests, and the caliber and creativity on the plates reached an unprecedented level. The Rising Star Sommelier paired wine with one of each chef’s dishes, and the two Rising Star mixologist served four signature cocktails featuring St-Germain and Rhum Clément. Mario Batali won the 2008 New York Rising Stars Mentor Award and Chef John Fraser of Dovetail won the Jade plancha for Best Dish (voted on by attendees) for his Dungeness Carb Ravioli with Wisconsin Mascarpone, Chorizo, and Lemon-Butter Sauce. The Gala was hosted by Restaurant Associates Executive Chefs Tim McLaughlin and Jacqueline Kelly, while 2005 New York Rising Star Chef Doug Psaltis hosted the Wisconsin Cheese Showcase.
