FINANCING your child’s ANDREAN HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION FINANCIAL AID GUIDE FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR Andrean High School offers a variety of ways to help provide financial assistance for your child’s high school tuition. Available Financial Assistance Programs • Diocese of Gary Parish Tuition Discount and Assistance • Need Based Tuition Assistance • Indiana Choice Scholarship Program • SGO Scholarship funds • Academic Achievement scholarships • Academic/Service based scholarships • Red Crew Work-Study Program ALL need based tuition assistance, including IN Choice, requires a complete application through Private School Aid Service (PSAS). If it is determined by PSAS that a family qualifies for IN Choice or SGO scholarship, Andrean’s Financial Aid office will automatically apply for the scholarship on behalf of the family. It is possible for a student to qualify for multiple types of assistance. The need-based tuition assistance and IN Choice Scholarship Program are the most common forms of financial aid at Andrean. Regardless of the amount of tuition assistance, each Andrean family will be responsible for 10% of total annual tuition and fees. Work-Study Program Red Crew — Andrean students who have been given a spot on the Red Crew will receive $1500 tuition credit annually by working in a variety of ways on campus during the school year. Red Crew is supervised and monitored by a member of the Andrean faculty. Red Crew will meet at the beginning of the school year with the supervisor and be assigned to a Red Crew Team. Each “team” will be responsible for specific tasks to fulfill the obligation of tuition assistance. Red Crew members are selected annually from applicants using the Andrean scholarship application, meeting all scholarship criteria and based on PSAS information. Tuition Assistance Time Line Notification of financial assistance will be made to families in May of the prior school year. The first tuition payment is due in July through Smart Tuition. • January — Financial Assistance Applications (PSAS) are Available at Diocese of Gary parishes and Andrean High School • April 1 — — Deadline to apply for ALL tuition assistance through PSAS for 2015-16 school year — Deadline for Andrean Academic/Service Scholarship applications • May — Notifications are made to families of Andrean Scholarship, Andrean need-based assistance and expected IN Choice Scholarship assistance • April - July — Andrean Financial Aid Office applies for IN Choice Scholarship Program on behalf of families • July — First tuition payment due through Smart Tuition 7 President’s Book Scholarship — An Andrean President’s Book Scholarship is awarded to selected students attending Diocese of Gary grade school that show exemplary performance both academically and socially. Academic/Service Scholarships Andrean students may apply for several Andrean scholarships established and funded by donors. These scholarships require the student to complete an Andrean Scholarship Application and fulfill the particular scholarships requirements. The student’s family also must complete the PSAS form either through the Diocese of Gary or Andrean by the set deadlines. Individual scholarship criteria, requirements and details are available from the Admissions and Financial Aid Office or at www.andreanhs.com. Brian and Connie Demkowicz Scholarship — Two $5000 scholarships awarded to students beginning sophomore year. This scholarship is renewable as long as the criteria are met each year. George and Ann Wesbecher Memorial Scholarship — Two half-tuition scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen students belonging to SS Peter and Paul Parish in Merrillville. This scholarship is renewable as long as the criteria are met each year. Marcia M. Cardetti Memorial Scholarship — Two half-tuition scholarships awarded to one female and one male sophomore, junior or senior student. This scholarship is renewable as long as the criteria are met each year. Dawn Brancheau Foundation “Dream Big” Scholarship — One $3000 scholarship to be awarded completely (or divided) to an Andrean student(s) senior year. Andrean Alumni Scholarship — One $1000 scholarship to be awarded to an Andrean student’s senior year. Mark Horvath Memorial Scholarship — One $1000 scholarship awarded to an Andrean senior student. Judith Fort Gregoline Memorial Scholarship — One $1000 scholarship awarded annually to an Andrean senior student engaged in visual arts. Two to three pieces of art to be submitted to the selection committee for review. Don Bosco Award Scholarship — Two $2000 scholarships awarded annually to Andrean students. Matthew B. Staley Memorial Scholarship — Two $1000 scholarships awarded annually to Andrean students. Basilian Fathers Scholarship — One $1000 scholarship to be awarded to an Andrean student. 6 Diocese of Gary Parish Tuition Discount — Andrean families who are deemed by their pastors as supporting members of a Diocese of Gary Catholic Parish, are awarded discounted tuition by completing a Parish Verification Form at the time of registration annually. Each qualifying student receives a $240 tuition discount annually. Tuition Assistance — All Andrean students that belong to a Diocese of Gary Catholic Parish are encouraged to apply for financial aid through their individual parish office. The Diocese uses PSAS (Private School Aid Service). These forms are available annually at every Diocese of Gary parish office near the end of January. All Catholic families are encouraged to apply for financial aid from the Diocese of Gary for future enrollment. (including incoming freshman or transfer student for the following school year.) Need Based Tuition Assistance Andrean Tuition Assistance Andrean students that do not belong to a Diocese of Gary Catholic Parish, or families that have missed the Diocesan Tuition Assistance application deadline, are encouraged to apply for financial aid through Andrean. Andrean also uses PSAS (Private School Aid Service). The PSAS form is available annually at Andrean at the end of January. Andrean uses the information from PSAS to distribute assistance according to family need and the amount of funds the school has available. All Andrean financial assistance is confidential and funded by Andrean High School. Indiana Choice Scholarship Program In 2011, the Indiana General Assembly established the Indiana Choice Scholarship Voucher Program, which is intended to provide opportunities for low and middle income families to send their children to the private school of their choice. The program creates a scholarship “voucher” that will enable families to access a portion of the per-pupil state funding in their area to be used toward the private school tuition. 3 Andrean High School is actively participating in the IN Choice Scholarship Voucher program and is working with eligible families to assist them with the application process. To be eligible for participation in the IN Choice Scholarship Program at Andrean, the student must: • • • • • • Be accepted to and plan to enroll at Andrean High School. Be a legal resident of the State of Indiana. Either have enrolled in an Indiana public school for at least the two immediate semesters prior to enrolling at the private school (such as Andrean) or have received an SGO Scholarship from a participating Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) such as the Sagamore Institute at any time in their educational life. Be a sibling of a currently enrolled IN Choice Scholarship recipient. Be a continuing or previously enrolled IN Choice Scholarship recipient. Complete and return a PSAS tuition assistance application by the annual deadline either through the Diocese of Gary or Andrean High School. SGO Scholarship There are limited scholarship funds available through Sagamore Institute that may provide qualified families a pathway into the IN Choice Scholarship Program. This eligibility is determined by PSAS. (Lowell) $4,812 $2,673 Valparaiso Community Schools $4,967 $2,759 Academic Excellence Scholarships Andrean Entrance Exam Scholarship — An Andrean Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to ten students scoring highest on the STS Entrance Exam given to students in December and January of the 8th grade year. The Academic Excellence Award is an academic scholarship worth $1000 for the student’s freshman year. Families of students earning an Academic Excellence Award who also qualify for need-based tuition assistance will receive priority status as long as they apply through PSAS. The Academic Excellence award amount will be in addition to any need-based tuition assistance for which a family qualifies for that school year through the tuition assistance process. Families that have no financial need for the monetary award may donate the full amount of the award back to the Andrean Annual Fund.
