Mr. John Boel - LifeSpring Health Systems
Mr. John Boel
WAVE 3 News Anchor and Author
In 2012, John Boel accomplished something that’s never been done, winning Emmy
awards for Best News Anchor, News Report, Sports Reports and News Writer in
the same year. His career Emmy total is a record 75, with 7 of them for Best Anchor. His other journalistic achievements include 40 A.P. awards, 9 Edward R.
Murrow awards, and 2 Eclipse awards.
Presented by the
LifeSpring Foundation of Indiana
October 16, 2014
Kye’s II
Jeffersonville, Indiana
When he’s not working, John enjoys fishing and training for triathlons. He just completed his 7th Ironman Triathlon at the age of 51. John and his wife, Brenda, have
two daughters, Kelsey and Brianna.
His first book, “On the News – In the News,” spent three months on the Louisville best
seller list. This book shares twenty-five years of fascinating stories from one side of
the camera, then takes readers to the other side, through his powerful and intensely
painful journey from the public shame of two high-profile DUI arrest through recovery and self-discovery. John says, “A good journalist tells the whole story.” He
wrote the book in hopes his story will help educate others about a chronic, progressive disease that ruins more lives every day than any hidden camera ever could.
John anchors WAVE 3 News Sunrise weekdays from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. He also investigates a wide-range of stories throughout Kentuckiana.

LIFESPRING FOUNDATION OF INDIANA
2014 IMPACT AWARD WINNERS
CHAIRMAN’S AWARD
Judge Dan Moore
Clark Circuit Court #1
This award is being given to honor a public figure who has assisted LifeSpring to further its goal of supporting
treatment for mental illness and addictions in southern Indiana. The nominees in this category were selected by
the LifeSpring Foundation Board of Trustees.
Daniel Moore is Judge of Clark Circuit Court No. 1. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from
Franklin College, a Master’s Degree from Indiana University and a Juris Doctor from the John
Marshall Law School in Chicago. Early in his career Judge Moore served as Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Clark County.
He was Clark County Attorney for 12 years and was the lead negotiator with Congressional
offices and the U.S. Army to bring about a land transfer of some 6,000 acres of the closed
Charlestown ammunition plant, to Clark County local control, now called River Ridge. This
involved taking part in several meetings at the Pentagon and with military officials in Virginia.
The transfer bill passed the Congress in 1998.
Since becoming a Judge in 2009, he has sponsored an annual Mock Trial in his Court for area
Scouts. A crime scene is staged in the midst of the education session and the scouts participate
in jury trial where guilt or innocence is determined.
MENU
Fruit/cheese display for guests upon arrival
Autumn salad: spinach, gorgonzola, walnuts, dried cranberries, Granny Smith apples
with honey mustard, poppy seed dressing, ranch on the side.
Cocktail size pretzel croissants with butter
Chicken Florentine
Teres Major beef with Portobello mushroom demi-glace
Pan-roasted potatoes
Farm-style green beans with bacon
Broccoli casserole
Dessert: Cheesecake with assorted accompaniments
Sweet tea, unsweet tea, water, coffee
Note: A Cash Bar will be available through Kye’s.
Judge Moore has also implemented his “Riding the Circuit” program. This allows him to visit
schools, citizen groups and organizations to discuss the operations of the court system.
In 2010, Chief Justice Shepard and Judge Melissa May of the Court of Appeals came to Clark
County to officially dedicate the Clark Legal Self Help Center. Headed and developed by
Judge Moore, this information and guidance Center in the courthouse has become greatly valued
by our citizens who cannot afford an attorney. Area attorneys and law students volunteer their
time to work at the Self Help Center 2 afternoons per week. It has now grown to an average of
30 people weekly who come here for help.
The Judge revised all mental health forms and procedures involving the laws for mental health
commitment as soon as he took office. He opened new doors of communication with all local
behavioral health and mental health service providers during his term. He implemented a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) in Clark County which brought about a working collaboration
among area police agencies and mental health providers. He insists on keeping a close oversight
on the mental health cases and focusing on returning people to their families rather than using the
confinement options longer than necessary.
Judge Daniel Moore has presided over 47 jury trials in his 6-year term as Circuit Court Judge.

MESSAGE FROM MR. JACK VISSING
FOUNDATION BOARD PRESIDENT
Welcome to the LifeSpring Foundation of Indiana 7th Annual
Circle of Life Gala. The work of LifeSpring has never been more in
demand than today. The Financial needs of the individuals in our community have
never been greater and the pressure to care for those who are ill with serious mental
health and issues of substance abuse has reached new and
dramatic levels. In our communities we have seen violent and tragic examples of
those left untreated. Many times people fall out of treatment and are left to the jails
and the streets for their care. Tonight you have the ability to assist us in funding the
care of the many in need by your generosity and compassion. The individuals who
make up the LifeSpring family of caregivers are without compare and your assistance
gives them the ability to serve with skill and compassion. Thank you to all who have
given.
