Hello Fellow Sewers, this month we are featuring our Quilt for the Needy group and
our Chief Folding Officers Committee for your enjoyment.
Made With Love
Twice a month a group of approximately 25 women led by Sharon Van Camp,
Javais Vice and Darlene Mullen meet at Rip n Sew to dispense love. Known as
“Quilters for the Needy” they create works of art in the form of quilts. Each year
these quilts send some 600 to 800 messages of love into the community. The project
is supported by selling some of their creations at the two Craft Fairs and holding
quilt raffles. Their work can be found in flannel receiving blankets for babies
whose mothers may not have adequate funds. Fleece throws are given to the fire
department. There are also a wide variety of pieced quilts and some appliqué
created. At times unfinished quilt pieces are donated and women skilled with
needle and thread turn these “orphans” into a dose of comfort and love that might
go to one of the several charities they assist. Twice each month Banner Hospice
receives some of the quilts to make a dying patient’s room brighter as well as give
comfort and love to their family. Beautiful quilts of red white and blue often go to
Veterans as a token of appreciation and love. The quilts are done in a model of
production when teams of these talented sewers lay out fabric and batting, then,
cut, stitch, tie, and quilt before finally finishing each quilt with a label that says:
"Made with love by Rip n Sew Sun City West, AZ”..
So what’s A C.F.O.?
Confederate Field Officer? No-o-o. Chief Financial Officer? Heavens NO! It is the
Chief Folding Officer. Come on…What’s that? You mean you don’t know?
Well, have you ever been a monitor and had a huge box of a donation come in, or
a nasty little plastic bag of who knows what? What do you think happens to that?
Who do you think takes care of that? It is a team of four ladies, Jean Ireland, Louise
Howden, Carolyn Miller and Lill Mueller. They sort and dispose of all the “treasure”
and believe me there are times some of it really is not such a treasure! You’re
kidding. Yup, how long has it been since you bought thread on a wooden spool? Or
how about pins in a paper? You mean something’s come in that way? Sure does if it
is 40-to 50 years old and frankly sometimes it isn’t very clean either. So do they just
throw it away? Not if it is at all useable by someone. Much is sorted, folded and
priced for resale on the fabric shelves. It is put in the notions drawers, ribbon,
elastic or zipper boxes. The buttons all get sorted into the different jars, or maybe
there are usable patterns. If there are fabrics suitable for kids that is put away for
“Sewing for Kids” or maybe there is fabric for “Quilters for the Needy”. They don’t
throw anything away that can be used in some way. But what
happens to the money from the sales? Half of the money goes
for more quilting supplies. The other half goes to: "Sewing for
Kids" another helpful group. If a sewing machine is donated
and sold that income goes to Rip n Sew. So now you know. The
C. F. O. s are just one more important part of the Rip n Sew
Club.
Notes from the Presidents:
We now have permission to pick up the key from the Rec Center Office AFTER
8:30am. That is so the monitors or teachers may come and get set up in a quiet
time frame. The club room is not open to members until 9:00am! ! So be kind
and wait until 9:00 to show up.

Rip N Sew E-mail - a two-way communication tool!
Unlike the club newsletter, this communication goes out to all club members
(with e-mail addresses) every week. On rare occasions, an e-mail can be
sent out mid-week.
Publish your event, project, or sale items:
This is every members' tool to communicate to most of our members. If you are a board member,
committee chairman, or an individual wanting to organize a special project, this is for you. It's
also a way for members to advertise any sewing-related sale items.

Club announcements, monitoring needs, classes, special events and sew-in's are included in the
weekly e-mails. We also offer our non-sewing neighbors space to request help with their sewing
needs. So you might find a good source of income in any one of the e-mails that come your way.

the monitor's desk in the clubroom if you want to write out your article on paper. These are

Our Sewing 4 Kids group is in the delivery stage of the 2016 summer line of
clothing. On Good Friday, March 25, 2016 Bobbi Shinn and Donna
Armstrong delivered to the first three schools.
We were delighted this season when Surprise asked to be added to
elementary schools; Dysart, Riverview, El Mirage and Thompson Ranch
bringing the total to five schools receiving outfits from Ripnsew
Sewing4kids.
Each school received 3 cotton short/shirt sets each size 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 & 14 for both boys and
girls. All this sewing resulted in 216+ outfits going out to kids in our local area.
If you have never sewn for charity, you’ll quickly find it’s a wonderful way to share your love of
sewing, and help someone in need at the same time. We meet on Thursday evening 4-7pm and
Friday 12:30 — 3:30pm in the classroom.

Remember we have the room open for open sewing on
the last Sunday of each month from 1 -4 pm, and also on
Monday and Wednesday nights from 4-7 pm.

appreciated.
ANNUAL DUES
Annual dues are payable beginning in October of the previous
year, and are delinquent after January 25th of the new
membership year. 861 Members in good standing who are
renewing after January 25th may renew with an additional
fee of $5.00. Late renewal is available through September
30th. Members who do not renew by September 30th will be
dropped from the roster and will not be allowed to join in the
following year. No portion of the dues is refundable.
The dues of a first time member joining in October –
December shall be valid until the end of the following year.
