FAQ — (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. Do the patterns really fit?
Of course, WE’D say yes!!! But let our customers speak for themselves. See customer testimonials under the Company menu
on our webpage.
2. I have mixed and matched pieces from commercial patterns to create my own styles. Will I be able to design my
own patterns with PatternMaster?
Yes. Pattern Master was developed for the individual who enjoys mixing and matching pattern pieces to create new styles.
In fact, the software functions in just this way. You choose a bodice, a collar and a sleeve by selecting design options, hit the
Print button, and the software prints out the patterns drafted to your measurements and design specifications.
3. Do the programs come with measuring instructions?
Yes. Instructions and pictures of a real person being measured are provided to help you take the measurements. We also
show where the measurements are applied on the basic fitting shell patterns. In addition, standard size measurement charts
are provided in the back of the manual for a wide variety of sizes. Compare against a standard size measurement chart
as you take your body measurements to be certain that you are taking your measurements correctly. If you do take your
measurements incorrectly, the Measurement Coach will appear to guide you in taking the measurements accurately.
4. Do the programs come with garment construction instructions?
Yes. PatternMaster & Click&Sew ship with a library of garment construction instructions. These construction sheets can be
read or printed from the computer using the Adobe Reader which is contained in the Pattern Master CD-ROM. However,
these instructions are not assembly instructions customized for each of the thousands of styles combinations that you can
create with PatternMaster products. Nor are they customized and sequenced instructions for each of the dozen or more styles
that can be created in each of the Click&Sew titles.
Some sewing experience is helpful. We have many beginner sewing enthusiasts who successfully use our software products.
We find that a sewing instruction reference book such as the Reader’s Digest Complete Guide to Sewing will also aid in
answering your garment construction questions.
5. Can I use my home printer to print out the patterns?
Yes. Patterns may be output to a standard printer using 8 1/2” by 11” sheets of paper. The programs provides a tiling function
that will create registration marks at the corners of each sheet of paper. It will number each sheet, or tile, for easy and
accurate assembly. Tractor feed paper may be used in many printers to print in long strips instead of individual sheets. Simply
tear off the tractor portion of the paper and feed through your printer using the banner setting. Of course, if you have access
to a plotter, patterns may also be plotted in full size with no taping required.
6. Can I exchange files with other CAD programs?
PatternMaster files can be saved as standard DXF-formatted files. This file format can be opened in many other CAD
programs. Cameo files can be saved to the newly adopted ASTM DXF file format for exchange with other apparel CAD
software programs. Click&Sew patterns cannot be saved to files.
7. Can I use Cameo or Pattern Master for fashion illustration?
The Cameo and Pattern Master product lines does not offer illustration capability for the user. The programs have been
developed to make sewing patterns. Technical drawings for specifcation purposes can be created in both Cameo and Pattern
Master.
8. Can I edit the patterns created in Pattern Master on my computer?
Yes. Pattern Master’s True CAD Pattern Editor can be used for making changes to the pattern pieces created in Pattern
Master. Simply save the pattern and open it in the Pattern Editor. Tools such as Move Point, Create Arc, Offset (for making
seam allowances and facings), and Scissors can be used to change the shape of a neckline, do color blocking, and other fun
tasks.
9. How will I know how much fabric to purchase?
PatternMaster and Click&Sew contain a unique Yardage Calculator. After the pattern has been created and saved, the pieces
can be opened in the Yardage Calculator. Enter the width of the fabric and a rectangle appears representing the fabric. Select,
move, and lay each pattern piece within the rectangle. Tilt, Rotate, and Flip buttons are available to help move the pieces.
Click the Caclulate button and the Yardage Calculator will tell you exactly how much fabric you need to make your garment.
10. What are the size limitations?
Pattern Master Boutique and Tailor Made and Click&Sew Custom Classics, Casuals, and Martha’s Favorites have been
created for the adult sized figure. Pattern Master Child’s Play has been created for children ages 2T through 16.
11. What is the current version?
Cameo Version 3
PatternMaster Version 3. Please note the actual Update date in the program title bar.
Click&Sew Version 2. Please note the actual Update date in the program title bar.
12. How do I know how much ease to specify?
Ease is a highly subjective issue. By making a couple of test garments and studying your favorite garments, you will be able
to determine how much ease you prefer in your clothing.
13. Will my old CDs work on Windows XP and Windows 2000?
Most of our older CDs will install in Windows XP. Use the Windows XP Program Compatibility Wizard to install the
programs. The Wizard can be found under the Windows XP Start/All Programs/Accessories menu. If your installation
becomes stuck in a loop and will not install, please contact technical support for assistance.
Most of our older CDs will not install into Windows 2000. Please contact technical support for assistance.
14. Can I save measurement charts?
Yes. Cameo and PatternMaster can save up to 2000 measurement charts. Click&Sew programs save the last set of
measurements entered prior to viewing the Create Style screen.
15. How do I open a saved pattern?
Files saved in PatternMaster can be opened only in the Pattern Editor or Yardage Calculator. They cannot be opened in
Pattern Drafter.
16. Do I have to download all of the past updates?
You only ever need to download and install the most current update. Our updates are always cumulative. All of our current
updates are posted on our website. Instructions can be found through the link in the menu at the left.
17. Can I take pattern files to a print service?
PatternMaster and Click&Sew files cannot be printed through a printing service. The software must be installed on the
computer hooked to the printer. Cameo files can be printed through printing services. Please contact technical support for
assistance.
18. Do the programs work with doll measurements?
Our PatternMaster & Click&Sew programs have been developed for humanly-proportioned measurements. Most dolls are not
humanly proportioned and so their measurements will not likely work in our programs.
19. Can I make stretch knit garments?
You can specify no ease in the PatternMaster program and create patterns for vary stable knits. Our PatternMaster Boutique
& Click&Sew programs draft patterns that are not sized for stretchy knits. PatternMaster Curves, Tailor Made, and Child’s
Play draft patterns that can be sewn from stretchy knits.
