mock magazine
Lober consistently crank-called and emailed Shamrock
“dirty things.” He said at first it didn’t bother him but one
night while in Brazil, …
The Shamrock finally got angry.
Kicked Lober’s ass and sent the man into retirement.
OK so there was another time where Frank’s patience was
tested.
He was at a rodeo, minding his own business, when a man
approached him with taunting words.
“He came up to me because I was the smallest and bestdressed guy there,” he smirked. “I tried to run away, but he
grabbed my shirt and I was forced to beat him into a semiconscious state. Then I kicked his friend’s ass for instigating
the fight.”
Imagine kicking ass for a living.
Imagine kicking ass for a living
the Shit
Imagine kicking ass for a living
People stammer when they meet you in person, ask you to
take your shirt off just so they can tell you that you look
bigger on television. Girls ask you to sign their panties and
married women pose with you while their husbands eagerly
snap the picture.
Oh, the poor lifestyle of Frank Shamrock, all those nasty
people taking advantage of him.
The man is well known in the World Extreme Cage Fighting
and mixed martial arts. The name Shamrock has carried him
into the business world.
He is involved with eight separate businesses all heavily influenced by his marketable image.
Born Frank Alicio Juarez, he was adopted at age 22 by his
surrogate father, Bob Shamrock, who pushed him to get a
job at a gym Ñ and then it began.
“Live to fight. Fight to live,” the motto scripted across his
self-titled Web site reads.
“Martial arts give a structure to life. It gives you a peace of
mind and it is a way of life,” he said convincingly.
He said it speaks true to the sport and of the professional
fighters’ lifestyle.
“These guys look like they have been living in gyms,” he
said seriously. “Everyone wants to be the next superstar.”
It is safe to say that his superstar status remains untouched.
He indulges himself in his work and although he does not
fight nearly as much as he use to, martial arts still is a huge
driving force in his life.
Shamrock maintains his training and healthy diet and keeps
a busy life with the ‘Shamrock empire.’ His newest endeavor
is his baby: ShootBox.
“They were all scared I
would beat them, finally
one has
accepted,” he said confide
ntly. “I think now they
think I’m
older, not as physically
able and more into my bus
iness side,”
he said a bit cocky.
Claiming to be a non-vio
lent
his nature to be angry, wh person, Shamrock says it isn’t in
ich is hard to believe wh
en he use to
beat the crap out of peo
ple for a living.
He admitted to one incide
nt where his temper got
the best of
him. He was fighting a
gentleman by the name
of John Lober,
who he had fought bef
ore.
castro
Between the ages of 12 and 18 he was in and out of foster
homes, work camps and a member of the juvenile system.
photographs by salvador
Shamrock left his home at the age of 12, becoming a ward of
the state of California. “I was getting into a bit of trouble and
I had a difficult home life,” he said.
The unique sport was lau
nch
lar to the Ultimate Fightin ed this year in August. It is simig Challenge, minus the
cage and
ropes and the ring itself
is designed differently.
It is not the
normal flat surface, the
sides of the mat are slan
ted and there
are more rules to be foll
owed.
Shamrock is the master
mind behind ShootBox
and may even
fight in a match against
another well-known figh
ter, Cesar
Gracie, in Las Vegas on
November 14.
“It is in the works right
now, there are papers to
be signed
and deals to be made. Bu
t there is a 95 percent cha
nce of it
happening,” he assured.
The Gracie family is fro
m Brazil and has a long
history of
fighting and Shamrock
has always wanted to figh
t one of
them.
eda
“I draw from my childhood,” Shamrock said of why he has
been so successful in life. “It keeps me motivated.”
