I had forgotten that fall was just around the corner until I saw the tables decorated with the beautiful yellow chrysanthemum centerpieces. Thank you to Carla Watson and her crew for all their work. Kudos to Marilyn Bittle and Nancey Kredell for chairing the event again this year..... and kudos to all of you who took a shift or two and/or brought some lovely plants to sell. I love to brag to all my nonWCSB friends about how active our membership is in so many ways, raising money for worthwhile causes. Thank you everyone for all your efforts! What a dynamic program Becky Williams provided for us to start the year off right. Beverley Bender, a gerontologist, had us all on our feet being silly and laughing out loud. What fun! We welcomed two guests, Sophia and Sandy to our meeting. Sandy had heard about us by coming to the plant sale. Judy O'Neill passed out our new membership directories. If you notice any changes that need to be made to your listing, please let Judy or me know about it so we can announce it at the next meeting. Board Mtg. Wed. We Care My name is , I'm a single mother to a 10 year old girl here in Los Alamitos. I'd like to take a moment to personally thank Rob Lowenberg for assisting me in a time of crisis. I work as a substitute teacher 3 school districts and unfortunate my savings to hold me over the summer ran out. I became late in my rent. Rob assisted me right away. He even took time out on the weekend to help me. He listened patiently on a Saturday afternoon while I ex- plained my situation. He immediately Jumped in said I would help in any way he could, even though funding was low. Rob reached out to another organization, St Vincent DePaul at St. Hedwig's Church. I myself initially went to the Salvation Army to seek help. I spoke with a woman there twice who offered to help me. Rob stepped up and made several attempts to see if they could offer some assistance as well as of Friday she never returned Rob's call or mine. Words cannot express how extremely grateful I am for the help from Rob, the fact that he went above and beyond to find additional help in order for me to keep my apartment. Being a single mother and trying to hide my stress isn't always easy. After I hung up with Rob for the first time I was actually able to sleep through the night for the first time in weeks. Although I am still struggling I know I will eventually get back on my feet. Now that school has started, work is picking up which gives me hope. Without Rob's help however at We Care I don't know that I would have been given the opportunity of more time to do so.
