Getting To Know KUPD
What is your name?
Molly Siuty
How did you come to special
education?
I checked a box that said I would be
"open" to teaching special education
on my Teach For America application.
Although I didn't know it at the time,
this meant that TFA would
automatically place me in SPED. I
quickly realized that my kids were in
fact the gap within the achievement gap. From then on, improving
outcomes for special education students has been my passion.
What is your area of interest?
I am interested in literacy interventions and teacher education.
What is an interesting fact about you?
I worked on a living historical farm when I was younger. My duties
included kneading bread, playing the pipe organ and caring for baby
animals all while dressed in full costume (including a bonnet).
What are some things you do with your free time?
I like to relax through cooking and exercising. I also love to travel
and try new things such as restaurants or museums. My absolute
favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband, Jimmy, and our
cat, Beau Henry.
What is your name?
Hyunjoo Lee. I know that it is very
hard to pronounce my name. Here is
my tip for you! Have you ever heard
of Hyundai? Then, you may
pronounce my first name correctly!
How did you come to special
education?
My mother’s experiences working
with individuals with disabilities
inspired me to study special
education. I have been working as secondary level special
education teacher for 3 years in South Korea.
What is your area of interest?
I am interested in secondary special education and transition
services. Specifically, my interest is on transition outcomes of
students with significant disabilities. Also, I am interested in cultural
diversity in secondary level classrooms.
What is an interesting fact about you?
I would like to be a world traveler someday. I do not know when it
will be, but probably after my retirement! Now, I am satisfied with
traveling conference cities across the United States. I love to collect
magnetics from the different places where I have been.
What are some things you do with your free time?
I enjoy playing racquetball, taking photos of the beauty of Kansas,
and cooking with friends.
