Marshals are instructed by the local police to point the direction but in no way can they control or direct the traffic the responsibility of this is down to the competitors to follow the rules of the road. Any breaches of these rules may be reported to the police and will jeopardise both future events and other events in this area. Please for the sake of the sport conduct yourself in a safe and sensible manor on this event. Athletes must register, collect numbers and leave their running equipment at the bike to run transition. Teams must register all three athletes at this time. T2 kit after registering we would advise you to leave your run kit by your numbered rack in transition in the community field before heading over to the start at Semer Water. It is a 10 minute drive or 20 minute ride so please leave yourself sufficient time. We also recommend car sharing as parking is limited at the start. Car Parking ****No parking in the field**** Please park respectfully either in the Business Park opposite T2 (DONT BLOCK THE FIRE STATION) or alternatively in the public car park over the bridge in Hawes. As this is a split transition there will be some transport back to Semer Water T1 after the race but it would be helpful if you can share lifts and or have a supporter to ferry you back and forth. There is limited parking at Semer Water (which is more limited the higher the lake is!) so please share lifts and park sensibly (the milk tanker has no respect for wing mirrors!) Rack Bikes at Semer Water (Swim to Bike Transition). Transition opens at 0830 and closes at 0930. Spare clothing deposited for transport to finish in numbered bags provided at registration. (Transport will be available from Finish to Semer Water for those without support to collect cars left at the start). Run Section General Run start cut off: 3pm This is a course on open fell and runners must be prepared with minimum kit to run in the hills (waterproof top, map of course, whistle, emergency food and water). Anyone leaving transition without this equipment will be stopped and disqualified. There will be spot checks. The hills in summer can be dangerous conditions can change quickly. Numbers should be clearly visible on the front and called out at the check point at the summit of Great Shunner Fell. Athletes are responsible to know the course prior to the event and visit the check point. We have been instructed by the Lake District National Parks who maintain the paths that there must be no straight lining and the paths must be used otherwise the future of this and other events are in danger. The land owners and organisers would also like to ask another condition for you using the course in such a wonderful part of the world that you leave no trace (no litter). We have been fortunate that this has been the case for the last couple of years with marshals reporting no litter on the fell on the way down. Again the future permission for this race depends on you following this guidance. Route Leave Transition out of the community filed and turn right towards Hardraw. Keep to the left, and pass over the narrow bridge. Turn left into field path. Continue along meadow path as directed and marked by tape until Hardraw. At road turn left. Cross road as directed. Turn right onto Pennine Way. Continue to Great Shunner Fell summit. Circle Structure at summit and retrace to Finish in the community field at the entrance to T2. There will be yellow run route arrow directing you up to Hardraw then red and white barrier tape used occasionally to the summit. Halfers The swim section is straight forward as opposed to doing 2 laps you only do one. The Bike is the same until you descend Butter Tubs when you turn left rather than right. There will be a marshal and a sign to say this but please ensure you take a look at the bike course map. The Run is an out and back up to the fell gate where again a sign / marshal will be there to direct you to turn. Teams General Handovers between teams should be done; 1) As the swimmer arrives at the entrance to transition 2) After the cyclist has racked their bike at the transition exit Runner’s numbers should be clearly visible on the front and called out at the summit turn.
