OUR TEAM
SUPPORTS YOU
Welcome, Scots!
Highland Park Football Fans,
Welcome to tonight’s game! We are excited that you’re here to support the
Scots! There isn’t any better entertainment in the State of Texas on Friday
nights than high school football!
Both teams come into tonight’s game having worked extremely hard since
last January to prepare for this moment. Countless hours spent in off-season,
the weight room, summer conditioning programs and 7-on-7 competitions
have brought the Scots to this point. Participation in high school football requires a special individual due to its
extremely competitive and physical nature. We hope you recognize the sacrifice these young men make for their
teams, schools and communities.
We also ask that you recognize our outstanding, award-winning Highlander Band, Color Guard, Bagpipe Corps,
Cheerleaders, Scotsmen, and Highland Belles. These young men and women do a great job of representing Highland Park. Other student groups and a large percentage of our student body are in attendance tonight supporting
all those who wear the Blue and Gold. We very much appreciate their support and spirit!
We are fortunate to have tremendous leadership from Dr. Tom Trigg and the HPISD administration. At HPHS,
Walter Kelly and his staff create a leadership environment both in and out of the classroom that is second to
none in the state. Our faculty is a special group, demanding academic excellence while being very supportive of
our students in their many activities. Highland Park is a special place due to our outstanding administration and
faculty!
All extra-curricular and co-curricular activities teach life lessons. Students can pursue their talents, learn to work
together as a team and develop leadership skills which will benefit them the rest of their lives. As educators and
coaches, we stress character, integrity, sportsmanship, perseverance and teach valuable life skills which students
will use long after their high school days.
Again, thanks for coming to tonight’s game. We appreciate your support.
Remember, Everyday is a Great Day to be a Scot and Scot Fight Never Dies!
Game Day Reminders:
1) Wear Blue & Gold to the Game.
2) Come Early, Be Loud the Entire Game, Stay Late!
3) Greet the players when they come out of the indoor
activity center for the Highlander March!
4) Yell with cheerleaders, Dance with the Belles and Clap to the beat of the band!
5) After the Game, Congratulate the Players!
6) Most of all, HAVE FUN!

years, their soccer record is 47-4-6.
The Scots baseball team rolled to a 14-0

The HP lacrosse team continued its
strong playoff tradition by reaching the
state finals. The Division I team had won
seven state titles since 2004. The Division
II team won the state championship in
2008, 2012 and 2015.
The tennis team, which had boasted 174
consecutive dual-match victories in a row
dating back eight years, finished with a
23-1 record. In spring tennis, HP won first
and second place in every doubles event at
the district meet. The Scots also finished
first and third place in boys and girls singles. At regionals, Chandler Carter/
Phillip Quinn won first place, as did
Brittany Newton/Logan Lett. In mixed
doubles Charlie Legg/Elizabeth Thetford
placed third. At the state tournament
Newton/Lett placed third in girls doubles
and Carter/Quinn won second in mixed
doubles.

season record, was an Area finalist. Pete
Davis led DFM in three-point FGs made,

and fifth in assists. Ben Reichert was fifth
in rebounds.
The two girls golf teams finished as district champion and runner-up. The two
teams placed 11th and 14th at regionals.
The two boys golf teams finished in first
place and third place in district. The Scots
were second in regionals and ninth at
state. Ty Burke and Cash Carter shot 151
and finished in the top 25 at state.
The Scots football team won the district
championship with a 7-0 record, then
advanced to the Area round, finishing with
a 10-2 record. The district title – the Scots'
48th – set a new Texas state record. Coach
Randy Allen's record at Highland Park at
the end of the season stood at 194-24,
including an 84-1 home record.

and the boys second in district. The boys
placed eighth in regionals while the girls

MEET THE DEFENSIVE LINE
The HP defensive line, coached by
Don Woods and Bobby Leidner, has
the depth to rotate six to eight players
without a loss of intensity.
One of the leaders of the defensive
line is senior Luke Blanton (#95, 6-1,
202), a strong and physical end who Marshall Hammack
Turner Coxe
started some last year. He is a member
of the team's Player Committee and
was a Player of the Week against
Rockwall. He's smart and hopes to
attend a military academy.
Nose guard Turner Coxe (#97, 6-0,
233) started half the 2015 season and
"is one of the best nose guards we've
Luke Blanton
John Hoover
had," said Woods. He's big and strong
and would like to play in college. He
throws the discus and shot on the
Scots track team and is a member of
the school's Jewish-Christian Alliance.
Senior Marshall Hammack (#99,
6-5, 182) is your typical 6'5" defensive
Tres Page
end who plays like a Tasmanian devil. Ryan Landsberg
He goes 110 percent on every play
and has earned his starting position.
He's smart and wants to be an engineer. He throws the discus and the
shot for the HP track team.
Hammack's father, Al, was the Scots'
first tall, athletic wide receiver and is
Connor Stone
Garrett Wingrove
known as the original Dez Bryant.
Senior Tres Page (#32, 5-9, 202)
went from OLB to nose guard and has
done a tremendous job for the Scots.
He started against Waxahachie. He's
very strong, plays lacrosse and is active
in Young Men's Service League and
Voice of Hope Ministries. He and
Garrett Stricker
Baron Holmes
Hammack were among the Players of Pulchalski
the Week last week against Waxahachie.
John Hoover (#93, 5-10, 215) is a senior who can line up at end or
nose guard. He worked hard in the offseason to earn time on the
field. He's a fun person who is a Cornerstone Athlete, is active in the
National Honor Society and is president of Balls and Bats of Hope.
He is also a catcher on the Scots baseball team.
Senior Connor Stone (#45, 6-3, 196) is one of the fastest linemen
on the team. He moved from OLB to
DE and never missed a beat. He is a
good athlete who plays lacrosse for
the Scots. He's in Best Buddies, a club
serving special needs kids. He'd like to
attend the Univ. of Arkansas.
Senior Baron Holmes (#44, 6-0,
Ian Raphael
Will Vermillion
210), a former linebacker, also rotates
into games. He's big and strong and
has earned his playing time. He is
president of Iron Sharpens Iron, VP of
the Student Council, VP of YMSL and
is active in NHS and Voice of Hope.
Gunther Stricker Puchalski (#59,
Wyatt Esquivel 6-0, 273) is intelligent and has a big
Elliott Newsom
heart. "He's one of my favorite players
on the team," said Woods. "He's a
winner." He's fluent in four languages.
Senior Ian Raphael (#51, 5-8, 240)
is a backup nose guard who is athletic
and has good feet. He's coming off an
injury. Would like to go to U. of Texas.
Jack Hickey
Jack Brown
Ryan Landsberg (#46, 5-9, 165)
plays DE and is valuable to the team
as a backup deep snapper. He's active
in the Young Republican's Club.
Everyone loves Will Vermillion
(#92, 6-0, 202) who was injured in a
car accident and hasn't suited up this
season. The senior is still a leader in
McClain Matter
Blake Bowman the locker room and helps with film.
Garrett Wingrove (#48, 6-1, 214)
started some games last year but is
coming off shoulder surgery and will
be out a few more weeks. He's active
in FCA among many others. He likes
hunting, fly fishing, football and golf.
Elliott Newsom (#41, 6-0, 210) is
Jack Jurgovan
Jeremy Hanes
the only junior in the starting group
rotation. He'll play quite a bit every Friday. He also plays first base for
the Scots baseball team and is president of Balls and Bats of Hope.
Juniors who are gaining valuable experience on the Blue team
Thursday nights are Jack Hickey, Blake Bowman, Jack Brown and
Wyatt Esquivel (when he's not helping the varsity offensive line).
Three sophomores pulled up to the Blue team are Jeremy Hanes,
Jack Jurgovan and McClain Matter.
