Hustling to win was freshman Mathew Nunn #30
as he runs through Plymouth's defense. Nunn ran
for over 600 yards this season. He started both
ways for the team all season.
Looking for an open receiver was #11 freshman
Jarrett Leister as he ran the ball around Plymouth's
defensive line. While the freshmen lost the game, they
came back from a 34-0 deficit to end the contest 3420 and didn't allow Plymouth to score in the second
half.

T
he Oilers entered the rough and ready Saginaw
Valley Conference with determination on their
mind. The junior varsity team had a prosperous
year with a record of 6-3, while the freshman team had
a record of 4-4. Both Coach Hicks and Coach Martin
thought that the Saginaw League was very challenging
and very competitive.
"Each week you had to come physically and mentally prepared to play. We also faced teams that are
known throughout the state as having strong programs
and winning traditions," said Coach Martin. Martin's favorite move of the season was "when we were able to
go 80 yards with a minute left to pull out a victory over
Saginaw Heritage." Freshmen honorees included: Steve
Ervin, Most Improved; Jarrett Leister, Most Dedicated; Matt
Nunn, Mr. Work Horse; Charlie Hisey, Most Coachable;
Spencer Fedewa, Most Spirited. Martin reflected, "it was
a very satisfying first season in the Saginaw Valley Conference. I had a lot of fun coaching these young men
and appreciate everything they gave me, that was the
first thing I noticed about these kids. They always gave
me everything they had and would fight until the end
and for each other."
