a riqueza cultural de la Península, la imponente
naturaleza por mar y tierra, una emergente y moderna

extremo sur de la geografía mexicana llamado Cancún, puerta

l Caribe Mexicano siempre nos sorprende por la
cantidad de lugares maravillosos que los visitantes
pueden encontrar. Uno de ellos es Puerto Morelos,
una pintoresca villa de pescadores en la que el tiempo se ha
detenido, quizá para disfrutar la belleza natural en mar y tierra
que este mágico destino ofrece.
Puerto Morelos se ubica 14 km al sur del Aeropuerto
Internacional de Cancún. Su fama se debe a que es un tranquilo
y romántico oasis entre las ciudades de Cancún, moderna,
vibrante y cosmopolita, y la efervescente, ecléctica y súper chic
Playa del Carmen.
The Mexican Caribbean always surprises us with the number of
wonderful places it offers for visitors to discover. One of these
is Puerto Morelos, a picturesque fishing village where time has
stood still, perhaps in order to enjoy the natural beauty of the
land and sea offered by this magical destination.
Puerto Morelos is located 14 km south of Cancun’s International
Airport. It is famous because it is a peaceful and romantic oasis
between the cities of Cancun, modern, vibrant and cosmopolitan,
and the buzzing, eclectic and super chic Playa del Carmen.

La naturaleza es exuberante en esta zona, pues frente a la costa
se encuentra el Parque Nacional Arrecife de Puerto Morelos, un
sitio de inigualable belleza submarina, ideal para la práctica de
esnórquel, buceo y pesca deportiva. El parque forma parte del
Gran Arrecife Maya, la barrera de coral más grande de América y
la segunda a nivel mundial. El parque está constituido por diversos
ecosistemas, como bancos de coral y pastos marinos, el sitio ideal
para la vida de cientos de peces tropicales, mantarrayas, tortugas
y estrellas de mar, entre otras especies.
La cercanía de los arrecifes con la playa hace que esta zona sea
de marea suave, por lo que se le llama “laguna arrecifal”; es por
eso que las playas de Puerto Morelos son las más tranquilas
del Caribe Mexicano, ideales para descansar y asolearse. Las
olas bajas resultan ideales para navegar en velero y kayak,
o para practicar el windsurf. Con el fin de preservar la fauna
marina, así como la tranquilidad de habitantes y turistas, el uso
de equipo náutico motorizado está restringido.

This area is full of lush, natural beauty, and just off the coast you
can find the Puerto Morelos Reef Nature Park, an unbelievably
beautiful underwater world, ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving
and sport fishing. The park is part of the Great Maya Reef,
the largest coral barrier in America and the second biggest
in the world. The park is home for different ecosystems, such
as banks of coral and seaweed, and is an ideal habitat for
hundreds of species of tropical fish, manta rays, turtles and
star fish, among others.
Since the reefs are close to the beach the tide here is not
strong, and the area is known as a “reef lagoon”, meaning that
the beaches in Puerto Morelos have the gentlest waves in the
Mexican Caribbean, and are ideal for relaxing and sunbathing.
The small waves are ideal for sailing, kayaking and wind surfing.
The use of motorized nautical vessels is restricted in order to
protect the marine fauna, as well as the peaceful atmosphere
enjoyed by locals and visitors.

En Puerto Morelos se ubica la Ruta de los Cenotes, el sistema de ríos
subterráneos más largo del mundo. Estos pozos de agua fresca y
cristalina son la entrada al hechizante inframundo de los mayas, para
quienes los cenotes eran sitios sagrados y veneraban sus hermosos
paisajes surrealistas de luz y sombra entre las rocas y el agua.
Otro gran atractivo que caracteriza la geografía de Puerto Morelos es
el manglar, un ecosistema que promueve la biodiversidad pues sus
raíces sumergidas proveen hogar y refugio a una rica fauna de peces,
mamíferos e invertebrados. El manglar asegura la sustentabilidad de
la pesca, alberga y provee áreas de anidaje para un gran número de
aves residentes y migratorias y protege la costa contra la erosión
ocasionada por los huracanes.
Las actividades en tierra incluyen visitas a los parques temáticos,
zoológicos y el jardín botánico, para conocer la rica flora y fauna
de la región, paseos a caballo, senderismo, observación de aves y
tours sensoriales, pasando por experiencias únicas, como presenciar
ceremonias mayas o purificarse con el temazcal (baño de vapor
sagrado de aztecas y mayas). El golf, el polo y los spas se encuentran
también entre las actividades preferidas en este paraíso.
Puerto Morelos es el sitio ideal para vivir excitantes tours y
aventuras extremas, como paseos en bicicleta, cuatrimoto y
vehículos todo terreno en la superficie y entre la verde selva,
la cual se puede conocer de cerca sobrevolándola en tirolesa,
haciendo rappel en cenotes y realizando buceo en cavernas.

Puerto Morelos is located on the Ruta de los Cenotes, the longest
underground river system in the world. These wells, full of fresh,
crystal clear water, are the entrance to the magical underworld
of the Maya, for whom the sinkholes were sacred places and
where they worshipped the beautiful, surreal landscapes full of
light and shadows between the rocks and water.
Another great attraction that has the typical geographic
features of Puerto Morelos is the mangrove, an ecosystem
that supports the biodiversity of the area since its submerged
roots provide a habitat and refuge for fish, mammals and
invertebrates. The mangrove ensures the sustainability of the
fish species, providing an extensive nesting area for a large
number of resident and migratory birds and protects the coast
from erosion caused by hurricanes.
Land activities include visits to theme parks, zoos and the
botanical garden, to discover the diverse flora and fauna of the
region, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching and sensorial tours,
where you can enjoy unique experiences such as being present
at Mayan ceremonies or purify yourself in a temazcal (the sacred
steam bath of the Mayans and Aztecs). Golf, polo and spas are
also some of the preferred activities in this paradise.
Puerto Morelos is the ideal place for enjoying exciting tours and
extreme adventures, such as cycling and ATV tours on jungle trails,
flying on zip lines above the jungle canopy, rappelling in cenotes
and scuba diving in caves. There is no limit to the action here!

La pintoresca ciudad cuenta con los encantos de la villa
escondida de pescadores que ha sido por mucho tiempo. Turistas
provenientes de todas partes del mundo han venido de visita y
ante su belleza, han decidido quedarse y convertirla en su hogar.
En el centro se encuentra el mercado de artesanías Hunab
Kú, que ofrece lo mejor en joyas, objetos de coral y cómodas
hamacas, entre otros bellos objetos. Mientras adquiere un
recuerdo, podrá apreciar a los artesanos manufacturando sus
productos en sus pequeños talleres: hombres labrando madera
o torneando caracoles y mujeres tejiendo hamacas o bordando
hipiles, los trajes típicos de las mujeres de la península.

El Faro es el punto obligado de visita y fotografía. Pintado
de blanco y azul, testigo de cuanto acontece en mar y tierra,
yace inclinado junto al muelle debido al paso del huracán
Beulah, que azotó el puerto en 1967. Desde entonces se
ha convertido en el ícono de este pequeño poblado, mientras
que el parque central, el kiosco y la iglesia, son los puntos de
reunión para locales y visitantes, que diariamente se reúnen a
disfrutar la brisa, el paisaje y la compañía de la gente.

world have come to visit this beautiful place and, charmed by

The Hunab Kú craftwork market is located in the downtown
area and offers the best in jewelry, coral works of art and
comfortable hammocks, among other beautiful objects. As you
purchase your souvenir, you can watch the artisans making their
products in their workshops: men carving wood or polishing
conches while women weave hammocks or embroider hipiles,
the typical dresses worn by women in the peninsula.
The Lighthouse is a favorite spot for visiting and taking
photographs. Painted in blue and white, it has witnessed many
major events on land and sea, and now leans over towards the
pier after having been damaged by hurricane Beulah, which
hit the port in 1967. Since then it has become an icon of this
small town, while the downtown park, kiosk and church are
meeting points for locals and visitors who come here every day
to enjoy the breeze, the views and the company of friends.
