30 year-old Wilson Barajas, a recent graduate of the
University of Illinois at Chicago with a Masters degree
in Education and in Physics, went missing at
approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011.
He reportedly left his parent’s Brighton Park home on
the 2700 block of W. Pershing Rd. to go to McKinley
Park. He was last seen on a black bicylce wearing a
blue sweater, pants, and brown shoes. Wilson is
5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately
160 pounds. If you have seen him or know of his
whereabouts, please call 773-886-2348 or

Barajas family in your prayers during this difficult time.

A Thought, Or Two…
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Since many of us will participate in our Parish First Holy Communion celebrations today, Sunday, May 22 at
10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., I think it would be a good time to remind you of the meaning of the Eucharist.
First of all, Holy Communion is one of many names the Eucharist is referred to as.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church the Eucharist is:
#1324 The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” “The other sacraments, and indeed all
ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it.
For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.”
#1325 “The Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause of that communion in the divine life and that unity
of the People of God by which the Church is kept in being. It is the culmination both of God’s action sanctifying the
world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit.
#1326 Finally, by the Eucharist celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate
eternal life, when God will be all in all.
#1327 In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith.
And this is what our children will partake in this Sunday and at every Mass they attend thereafter. They have been
preparing for this moment for the last two years. This is a joyful day for our parish and I wish that everyone live it
with a deeper understanding and meaningfully. But it’s even more important a day for our children, who from now
on will be able to fully participate in the Table of Jesus Christ, the Table – that gives the Food for Life.
May these celebrations in our parish, during which 26 children will receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first
time in their lives, remind us of our own First Holy Communion which we received many years ago and bring us to
say: “Thank you, O Lord, for this tremendous gift.”
Congratulations to the students from Pope John Paul II Catholic School and children from our parish and we wish
all of them that this Food from the Table of Christ will be for them the power and spiritual strength during their
entire life.
We thank the catechists who have prepared the children for this great day. Our thanks go to Miss Marjorie
Carmody, Mrs. Claudia Leszczewicz, Miss Marilyn Carroll, Mrs. Linda Padilla, and Mrs. Lila Czajczyk.
We thank the parents of our First Holy Communicants and deeply appreciate their support in preparing their children for this moment.
Ordination to the Priesthood
May and June are not only the months when children receive their First Holy Communion, but also the time when
deacons are ordained to the priesthood. I ask that during these days we pray in special way for all the newly ordained priests in our Archdiocese and throughout the world.
In the Society of Christ Seminary in Poznan, Poland there are seven deacons to be ordained to the priesthood this
May. After their ordination they will celebrate Mass daily for two weeks in the intentions you may request.
In order to do this, please take an envelope clearly marked as: “Mass Intentions for the Newly Ordained Priests”
from the table behind the last pew at the main entrance to the church. Please take one, write your intentions and
return it to either myself or Father Jacek.
On behalf of the newly ordained priests, I thank you all kindly for giving them the opportunity to celebrate Mass in
your intentions.
Prayers to Blessed Pope John Paul II
We continue our prayers to Blessed Pope John Paul II every Tuesday, asking God to perform a miracle through his
intercession, which will prove him worthy of sainthood. We also pray to Blessed Pope John Paul II in our own personal intentions, which you can write on a slip of paper and place it in the glass vase at the foot of the statue of
Blessed Pope John Paul II now prominently displayed in the sanctuary near the BVM side altar.
May Devotions
During the month of May we honor Mary, our Mother, with devotional prayer in the English language every
Thursday at 6:00 p.m. before the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to
thank Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother, for Her intercession and care.

40 Weeks In The Womb–Week 9
Chris is a little under an inch long. Chris
changes from being referred to as an embryo
to a fetus, which is Latin for „young one”.
Everything is now present that will be found
in a fully developed adult. If Chris would have kept
growing all 9 months as fast as this second month,
Chris would have been born as big as two overfed
elephants. Whew! Thankfully, development slows
down.

Our Lady of the New Millennium Statue
As you may have heard, the Our Lady of the
New Millennium statue is moving to the Diocese
of Gary (Indiana). After traveling to many parishes in the Chicago area for twelve years, the
statue has been given to the Shrine of Christ’s
Passion. However, until a permanent location at
the Shrine can be prepared, the statue will be
on the grounds of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Today, May 22nd at 5:00 p.m. Bishop Dale Melczek, the
Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, will welcome Francis
Cardinal George for a special ceremony of consecration
at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 11301 W. 93rd Avenue, in St. John, Indiana. In further celebration, the
Parish Music Ministry will be offering a Laudate Series
Concert: “Alleluia! Christ reigns!” at 2:00 p.m. in the
church. Everyone is invited to come and fill their day
with prayer and music and a visit to the Shrine of
Christ’s Passion.

Parish Pastoral Council Nominations
Soon the two year term of our current Parish Pastoral
Council members is coming to an end this June. At
least four members will need to be replaced. Nominations for new members are now being accepted at the
Rectory - hopefully some parishioners will be interested in serving the Parish in this capacity!
Baby Bottle Project
Our Parish is currently participating in the Baby
Bottle Project to benefit The Women’s Center of
Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit
organization directly assists mothers and
families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering
emotional, financial, and spiritual support through
counseling, clothing, monetary provisions, prayer, and
other aid.
Please take a baby bottle home with you this weekend
(if you didn’t already last weekend), fill it with your
spare change over the next several weeks, and return
it the weekend of June 18th & 19th, 2011.
This is a simple, yet crucial fundraising effort for The
Women’s Centers. Thank you for helping defend life!

FEAST OF FAITH
The Preparation of the Altar
The altar is the focal point of our churches. It is a sign
of Christ in our midst; indeed, it has been said that
“the altar is Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4). The altar is a table “on which the sacrifice of the cross is perpetuated in mystery throughout the ages until Christ
comes”; but it is also the place for a festive meal: “a
table at which the Church’s children assemble to give
thanks to God and receive the body and blood of
Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4).
Both these functions of the altar are clear in the rites
for the preparation of the altar that follow the general
intercessions, which remind us of the preparations we
make at home for a festive meal. The deacon or altar
servers come forward and, bowing, place a cloth
known as a corporal (from the Latin for “body”) over
the altar cloth. They place the chalice, the cup to be
used in the celebration of the Eucharist, and the Sacramentary or Roman Missal, which contains the prayers
of the Mass, on the altar. These reverent preparations
help us to focus on what is about to happen: the sharing of a holy meal, a solemn sacrifice.

Memorial Day Field Mass
Throughout Archdiocesan Cemeteries
Everyone is invited to a special field Mass and Program
at each of the Archdiocesan Catholic Cemeteries on
Monday, May 30th. Programs are scheduled for
10:00 a.m. in most cemeteries with Mass beginning at
10:30 a.m. Francis Cardinal George will be the
celebrant of ceremonies at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles,
while the Very Rev. Marek Kasperczuk, Rector of
Bishop Abramowicz Seminary, will be the celebrant at
Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
We will have a special Mass here at Five Holy Martyrs
at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30th which will be
attended by our Catholic War Veterans Post #500 &

Myśl...albo dwie...
Niedziela Pierwszej Komunii w naszej Parafii
W związku z tym, że większość z nas będzie uczestniczyć w niedzielę (22.V.) w Uroczystościach Pierwszej Komunii,
bo będą dwie w naszej parafii: o 12:00 w języku angielskim i o 10:30 w języku polskim, dlatego przypomnijmy
sobie co to jest Komunia Święta.
Przede wszystkim, Komunia jest jednym z określeń Eucharystii. Nazywa się „Komunią”, ponieważ przez ten
sakrament jednoczymy się z Chrystusem, który czyni nas uczestnikami swojego Ciała i swojej Krwi, abyśmy tworzyli
z Nim jedno ciało.
Katechizm Kościoła Katolickiego przypomina nam, że:
#1324 Eucharystia jest „źródłem i zarazem szczytem całego życia chrześcijańskiego. Inne zaś sakramenty, tak jak
wszystkie kościelne posługi i dzieła apostolstwa, wiążą się ze świętą Eucharystią i do niej zmierzają. W Najświętszej
bowiem Eucharystii zawiera się całe duchowe dobro Kościoła, a mianowicie sam Chrystus, nasza Pascha”.
#1325 „Eucharystia oznacza i urzeczywistnia komunię życia z Bogiem i jedność Ludu Bożego, przez które Kościół
jest sobą. Jest ona szczytem działania, przez które Bóg w Chrystusie uświęca świat, a równocześnie szczytem kultu,
jaki ludzie w Duchu Świętym oddają Chrystusowi, a przez Niego Ojcu”.
#1326 W końcu, przez celebrację Eucharystii jednoczymy się już teraz z liturgią niebieską i uprzedzamy życie
wieczne, gdy Bóg będzie wszystkim we wszystkich”.
#1327 Eucharystia jest więc streszczeniem i podsumowaniem całej naszej wiary.
I oto, czego uczestnikami będę, począwszy od niedzielnych uroczystości, nasze dzieci, które przez ostatnie dwa lata
były przygotowywane przez nasze katechetki do tego dnia. Jest to dzień bardzo uroczysty dla naszej parafii i
chcemy go przeżyć szczególnie radośnie i ze zrozumieniem powagi tego dnia. Jest to wielka chwila dla całej
wspólnoty parafialnej, a szczególnie dla naszych dzieci, które od tej niedzieli będą w pełni korzystać z prawa Dzieci
Bożych do przyjmowania Pokarmu Dającego Życie.
Za ten wielki dar my wszyscy mamy być wdzięczni przez całe życie. O tym, między innymi przypominają nam
dzisiejsze uroczystości, podczas których w sumie 30 dzieci przyjmie po raz pierwszy w swoim życiu Ciało Pana
Jezusa.
Pamiętajmy o nich w swoich modlitwach i znajdźmy okazję, aby podziękować Panu Bogu za naszą Pierwszą
Komunię świętą, którą przyjęliśmy tyle już lat temu.
Gratulujemy z serca naszym dzieciom, i tym ze Szkoły Katolickiej im. Papieża Jana Pawła II i tym z naszej parafii i
życzymy im, aby ten Pokarm ze Stołu Jezusa Chrystusa był dla nich mocą i przynosił im zdrowie duchowe przez całe
ich życie.
Z całego serca dziękujemy paniom katechetkom: Lila Czajczyk, Claudia Leszczewicz, Marjorie Carmody, Marilyn
Carroll, Linda Padilla, które przygotowywały dzieci do tego dnia.
Wyrazy głębokiego szacunku i należnej czci składamy Rodzicom Dzieci Pierwszo-komunijnych za okazywaną troskę
w dopilnowaniu ich w uczęszczaniu na lekcje religii, jak i za okazaną im pomoc w przyswajaniu przez nich Prawd
Bożych.
Święcenia kapłańskie
Miesiące: maj i czerwiec są miesiącami nie tylko Pierwszych Komunii świętych, ale także miesiącami, w których
diakoni przyjmują święcenia kapłańskie. W tych też dniach szczególniej powinniśmy się modlić za nowowyświęconych prezbiterów, aby ich posługa kapłańska prowadziła Lud Boży do zbawienia.
W seminarium Księży Chrystusowców w Poznaniu w tym roku siedmiu diakonów przyjmie święcenia kapłańskie.
Módlmy się, aby oni byli wiernymi sługami Chrystusa i aby kiedyś wypełniali swoją misję duszpasterzowania wśród
Polonii świata.
W między czasie, neoprezbiterzy będą przez dwa tygodnie odprawiać Msze św. Prymicyjne w intencjach, które wy
podacie. Przed ławkami, przy głównym wejściu do kościoła, znajdują się na stoliku koperty zaadresowane:
„INTENCJE na MSZE ŚW. PRYMICYJNE”. Wewnątrz tych kopert są zdjęcia neoprezbiterów i kartka, na której można
podać swoje intencje i prośby, w których oni będą się modlić. Wypełnione kartki można składać na nasze ręce.
Nasze modlitwy do Błogosławionego Papieża Jana Pawła II
Oczywiście, że kontynuujemy nasze modlitwy wtorkowe do Pana Boga, aby raczył za wstawiennictwem Bł. Papieża
uczynić cud, który potwierdzi świętość naszego Papieża. Ale módlmy się też do Błogosławionego Papieża Jana
Pawła II przedstawiając Mu napisane nasze prośby, troski potrzeby i wkładając je do urny szklanej, która znajduje
się przed figurą Papieża stojącą przy ołtarzu Matki Bożej w prezbiterium. Polecajmy Mu szczególnie naszą Ojczyznę i
jej potrzeby, wierząc, że Pan Bóg wysłucha Błogosławionego Namiestnika Swojego Syna na ziemi.

Majowe Nabożeństwa
Zapraszam na majowe nabożeństwa, które będą odprawiane po polsku codziennie w kościele o godzinie 18:00 za
wyjątkiem czwartków, kiedy to będzie odmawiany różaniec po angielsku przy Grocie też o godzinie 18:00. W
niedziele maja będziemy śpiewać Litanię Loretańską 15 minut przed Mszą św. o godzinie 10:30.

całego serca! A innych Parafian zachęcam do hojności, jako, że chcemy obecnie skupić się tylko na dachu
kościelnym, tym bardziej, że będziemy musieli wymienić również i najwyższy dach. Wszystko jest w rękach Pana
Boga i ludzi dobrej woli.

Plan „Butelka Niemowlęcia”
Nasza parafia uczestnicza w Planie „Butelka
Niemowlęcia”. Plan ten wspiera prace i
działalność „The Women’s Center of Great
Chicagoland”. Jest niedochodowa organizacja,
której celem jest bezpośrednia pomoc matkom i
rodzinom przechodzącym trudności związane z ciążą.
Organizacja ta wspiera takie rodziny emocjonalnie,
materialnie,
monetarnie
i
duchowo
poprzez
poradnictwo, datki materialne, pomoc finansową i
modlitwę
Jesli nie podjęliście już, to po Mszach świętych dzisiaj
prosimy podjąć „Butelki Niemowlęcia”, które znajdują
się w wejściach do kościoła i przez następne trzy
tygodnie wypełniać je zaoszczędzonymi drobnymi
monetami. Prosimy zwrócić te butelki w dniu 19
czerwca.
Jest to bardzo skromny, ale bardzo konieczny sposób
przyjścia z pomocą dziełu prowadzącemu przez The
Women’s Center. Niech Pan Bóg wynagrodzi Wam za
pomoc okazaną w obronie życia. Pamiętajmy też o
modlitwach za tych wszystkich, którzy działają na rzecz
obrony życia.

Nominacje Kanydatów do Rady Parafialnej
Przygotowujemy się do wymiany czterech (4) członków
Rady. Po dwóch latach, według statusu Rady dwóch
członków z każdej grupy języcznej odejdzie, robiąc
miejsce dla czterech nowych radnych. Już dzisiaj
prosimy zgłaszać z każdej grupy nowych kandydatów
do Rady Parafialnej na lata 2011-2013.
Bazar organizowany przez
Szkołę im. Jana Pawła II
Komitet rodzicielski ze szkoły im. Jana Pawła II
organizuje bazar w sobotę, 11 czerwca od 8 rano do 3
po południu na parkingu przy kościele Niepokalane
Poczęcie NMP (44-ta i California Ave.) jeśli pozwoli na
to pogoda. Można wynająć miejsce na parkingu za
$10—ale trzeba przynieść swój stół; a miejsce i stoisko
można wynając za $15. Tylko 40 miejsc będą
wynajęte. Po więcej informacji prosimy dzwonić do

Msza św. z Okazji Złotych Godów
W niedzielę, 28 sierpnia, 2011 br. o godz. 3:00
p.m. w kościele św. Jana Brebeuf pod adresem
8307 N. Harlem Ave., w Niles, IL, odbędzie się
uroczysta Msza św. Z okazji 50-tej rocznicy zawarcia
związku małżeńskiego.
Pary, które zawarły związek małżeński w 1961 roku są
proszone o skontaktowanie się z biurem parafialnym w
celu zarejestrowania się.
