The next sections deal with the catechesis as a
process of growth in the faith. Catechesis has a fundamental
role in the first announcement or “kerygma,” which is
Trinitarian. By saying this is the first proclamation not because
it exists at the beginning and can then be forgotten, but that it is
fundamental and principal, which we must hear again and
again. All Christian formation consists in entering more deeply
in this proclamation. This is central and principal.
Such a proclamation demands on the part of the
evangelizer or catechists certain attitude that foster openness
to the message: approachability, readiness for dialogue,
patience, a warmth and welcome that is non-judgmental.
Another important characteristic of catechesis is
mystagogy, in other words, the continuation of the community
and the people’s formation. Both things (kerygma and
mystagogy) require a suitable environment and attractive
motivation, as well as the integration of all dimensions of the
person in a community way of listening and response.
Continuing with a focus on the joy that all this should
produce, it speaks of the way of beauty, which catechesis
would do well to attend. “Proclaiming Christ means showing
that to believe in and to follow Him is not only something right
and true, but also something beautiful, capable of filling life with
new splendor and profound joy, even in the midst of
difficulties.” For this, the document recommends the Church
should encourage the use of the arts building on the treasures
of the past, but also drawing upon new expressions that are
attractive to others.
“As for the moral component of catechesis, which
promotes growth in fidelity to the Gospel way of life, it is helpful
to stress again the attractiveness and the ideal of a life of
wisdom, self-fulfillment and enrichment. In the light of the
positive message our rejection of the evils that can darken it.”
The exhortation then goes on to deal with personal
accompaniment in the processes of growth and their
importance.
Although
it
sounds
obvious,
spiritual
accompaniment must lead others ever closer to God, in whom
we attain true freedom. The person accompanying must
exercise the art of listening respectfully and compassionately to
find the path to growth. One who accompanies others has to
realize that each person’s situation before God is a mystery
which no one can fully know from without.
Finally, this section speaks of the Word of God
which forms and accompanies. It prepares the reception
of the sacrament, and in the sacrament it attains its
maximum efficacy. It insists that the study of the sacred
Scriptures must be a door opened to every believer.
Evangelization demands familiarity with God’s Word and
therefore, diocese, groups, movements, and parishes
must enter into a serious study of the Bible and promote
a prayerful individual and communal reading. And if we
are eligible, we vote.

En los siguientes apartados se trata de la catequesis
como un proceso de crecimiento en la fe. En la catequesis
tiene un rol fundamental el primer anuncio o “kerygma”,
trinitario. Al decir que es el primer anuncio, no se indica que
está al comienzo y luego se olvida, sino que es el fundamental
y principal, que hay que escuchar una y otra vez. Toda la
formación cristiana es profundización en este anuncio. Esto es
lo central y principal.
Tal anuncio pide en el evangelizador o catequista
actitudes que ayuden a una mejor recepción del anuncio:
cercanía, apertura al diálogo, paciencia, acogida cordial que
no condena.
Se habla también de otra característica importante de
la catequesis que es la mistagogia, es decir, la continuación de
la experiencia de formación de la comunidad y de la persona.
Para ambas cosas, (kerygma y mostagogia) se necesita un
ambiente adecuado y una motivación atractiva, así como la
integración de todas las dimensiones de la persona en un
camino comunitario de escucha y respuesta.
Siguiendo con el enfoque en la alegría que todo esto
debe producir, se comenta el camino de la belleza, al que la
catequesis debe atender. “Anunciar a Cristo significa mostrar
que creer en Él y seguirlo no es sólo algo verdadero y justo,
sino también bello, capaz de colmar la vida de un nuevo
resplandor y de un gozo profundo, aun en medio de las
pruebas”. Para eso, recomienda la atención de las iglesia
particulares a las artes, en continuidad con la riqueza del
pasado, pero también buscando formas nuevas que sean
atractivas para otros.
“ En lo que se refiere a la propuesta moral de la
catequesis, que invita a crecer en fidelidad al estilo de vida del
Evangelio, conviene manifestar siempre el bien deseable, la
propuesta de vida, de madurez, de fecundidad, bajo cuya luz
puede comprenderse nuestra denuncia de los males que
pueden oscurecerla”. Es bueno que nos puedan ver como
alegres mensajeros de verdades, guardianes del bien y la
belleza que resplandecen en una vida fiel al Evangelio.
Pasa luego la
Exhortación a tratar del
acompañamiento personal en los procesos de crecimiento y su
importancia. Dice que, aunque parezca obvio, el
acompañamiento espiritual debe llevar más y más a Dios, en
quien podemos alcanzar la libertad. El acompañante debe
ejercitar el arte de escuchar respetuosa y compasivamente
para encontrar caminos de crecimiento. Debe reconocer que la
situación de cada sujeto ante Dios es un misterio que nadie
puede conocer plenamente desde afuera.
Por último, en esta sección se habla de la Palabra de
Dios que forma y acompaña. Prepara a la recepción del
Sacramento y en el Sacramento alcanza su máxima eficacia.
Insiste en que el estudio de las Sagradas Escrituras esté
abierto a todos los creyentes. La evangelización requiere
familiaridad con la Palabra de Dios y, por tanto, las diócesis,
grupos, movimientos y parroquias deben entrar en un estudio
serio de la Biblia y promover una lectura orante personal y
comunitaria. Y si somos elegibles, salimos a votar.

Sustaining Hope for the Future Capital Campaign
Thank you for your generous support of the Sustaining
Hope for the Future campaign. We have pledges
totaling $54,048 from 43 parishioners. Our parish goal is
$146,500 over 3 years. The Diocese will receive 60%
and St. Paul’s 40% of all funds. The funds allocated to
St. Paul’s will be used to repair our church roof, repair
ceiling leaks, plaster and paint inside the church, add
additional security lights and cameras to our property
and assist with the payment of our debts.
All parishioners are invited to participate in this very
important campaign by making a pledge today.
Please review the campaign materials you received,
pray about your response, and consider a gift to this
campaign. Please return your pledge cards as soon as
possible by placing them in the Sunday collection basket
or returning them to the rectory. Additional pledge cards
are available in the back of the church. Thank you for
your generosity in this very important endeavor.

FOR THE SAKE OF GOD’S CHILDREN
What does the Diocese do for survivors of abuse? In
accord with Article 1 of the Charter for the Protection
Children and Young People the Diocese reaches out to
survivors and their families demonstrating a sincere
commitment to their spiritual and emotional well-being.
Our first obligation to survivors of clergy sexual abuse is
healing and reconciliation. Our Diocese has appointed a
Survivor Assistance Coordinator, a licensed therapist/
counselor with many years of experience in handling
sexual abuse, to coordinate assistance for survivors of
clergy sexual abuse. The Survivor Assistance
Coordinator speaks with the survivor (and/or family)
apologizing for the offense, listening to the survivor’s
experience, and offering counseling, spiritual help, and
providing for therapy either through counselors at
Catholic Charities or agreeing to pay for expenses
incurred by the survivor if he/she chooses other
counseling opportunities. We are committed to survivor
outreach and their spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
The services offered by the Diocese are in place for
each survivor for as long as necessary. Contact the
Survivors Assistance Coordinator at 302-656-0651.
LIGHTS OF LOVE
The Lights of Love event to be held on Dec.
8th at St. Francis Hospital. Mass will be
celebrated at noon followed by the tree
lighting ceremony and display of our loved
ones names in the hospital lobby. For a fee
of $5:00 per name, they will be listed for a
month in the Hospital lobby. Please send

CHRISTMAS DINNER DANCE
St. Paul’s Christmas Dinner Dance, Saturday,
December 13th from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the
School Hall. Dinner is included. Tickets are on sell
at the Parish Office or after mass. The cost is $15
per person, $25 per couple or $20 at the door per
person. Children older than 13 years old only.

The Cheesecake sale for the Thanksgiving Season is
here again. We are counting on you once again to help
us, either selling or buying the delicious Cheesecakes.
You could pick up your order form at the rectory or at
church. Please return your order with the money no
later, than Sunday, November 16. To pick up your order
is Monday, November 24 from 12 until 6 p.m. at the
Church Hall. If you need to make other pick up
