Development. This fund brings Catholic social teachings

Guadalupe with a very special mass on Friday, December
4 at 8pm in the church. The image will leave St. Andrew
Saturday morning to meet Archbishop Jose Gomez at East
Los Angeles College for the Annual Archdiocese Procession and Mass which will take place on Sunday Dec. 6th.

STOP ASSISTED SUICIDE
Stop Assisted Suicide in CA before it’s too late! Earlier
this year, through a Special Session, the CA legislature
passed assisted suicide, allowing doctors to prescribe
overdose medication to terminally ill patients. Join a
coalition of physicians, nurses, disability-rights organizations, and people of all faiths to stand for the lives of
our elderly and dying and oppose assisted suicide! On
November 22, Christ the King Sunday, petitions will be
available for signature outside of Masses. Signers must
be registered to vote and can only sign once.
STEWARDSHIP WEEKEND UPDATE
WHY OPPOSE ASSISTED SUICIDE?
• Sends the Wrong Message: Legalizing suicide
for the terminally ill, while discouraging it for the
rest of the population, teaches that the lives of
the ill and disabled do not matter to our society.
• Will Worsen Patient Care: Patients in other
states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are being
denied treatment prescribed by their doctors,
and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide.
• Will Increase Non-Terminal Suicide Rates:
Suicides skyrocket when assisted suicide is legalized. Oregon’s suicide rate for non-terminal
people increased 49% after assisted suicide became legal.

Dear Friends in Christ,
Parent’s Corner:
More on what your teen is learning in One8 Confirmation!
As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of
Our Lady of Guadalupe, I want to take this
opportunity to offer heartfelt thanks to our
parish family for your steadfast support of
the many activities that constitute parish life
here at St. Andrew.
Indeed, as we inch forward to 2016,
our parish continues to grow and most
significantly, this growth reflects the larger
Pasadena community itself, including it’s
Hispanic, Filipino, African-American, and
Anglo populations, I am profoundly grateful
to the leadership provided by these groups,
for together they honor, celebrate and
embrace the parish’s diversity, and in doing
so, they enrich all of us in the name of
Almighty God and St. Andrew, our patron.
Pictured on the back cover of this week’s
bulletin are the recipients of the Fourth
Annual St. Andrew Parish Vision Awards
2015. This award is given in honor of those
individuals who best promote our Church’s
vision, which is to work tirelessly toward
becoming one family, a united family.
Moreover, we choose to honor them on
December 12th. This day is appropriate
precisely because of the spiritual footprints
passed down by the two main figures in
the narrative of this Feast Day—Our Lady
of Guadalupe, the Mother of the Americas
as well as the Mother of All, and St. Juan
Diego, long a disciple of service and a
bridge builder himself.
Please join us at the 5:00am Mass on Our
Lady of Guadalupe’s Feast Day as we honor
the recipients of this award. Procession will
begin at 4:30am.

Year 1: This month at One Eight we talked about God as both an architect
and the master of the plan of salvation. This was the plan that God began
after humanity’s fall to sin, a plan that was fulfilled in Christ’s Incarnation,
Death, and Resurrection. This plan is continued through the Church and
the Sacraments. The teens were given an opportunity to reflect on their
own plans, and how they do or do not fit with God’s plan for their life. We
challenged them to submit these things to God, trusting that His plans are
greater than our plans. This week, take some time to discuss this session
with your teens. Some questions to get you started:
What do you think God’s plan is for you? Why?
What are some of your hopes for the next year?
The next five years? Do you think it is easier to trust in God, or to trust
in yourself? Why?
Year 2: This month at One Eight we discussed the final three gifts of the
Holy Spirit: fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord. We addressed these gifts
in relation to the lives of the saints and martyrs. The candidates were challenged to not only emulate the lives of the saints, but to also establish a
relationship with them through intercessory prayer. The candidates were
given an opportunity to choose a particular saint that they wanted to know
more about, and we closed the session by beginning a novena to our parish’s patron saint, St. Andrew. We encourage you to participate in praying
this novena with your son or daughter over the next eight days. During
the week, process this session with your candidate using the following
questions:
Which saint did you choose to learn more about at One Eight?
What did you learn about him or her?
How can you imitate qualities of that saint?
What gifts of the Holy Spirit did their life portray?

INSPIRATION AT SIX FLAGS
Our Youth Ministry attended the annual Inspiration at Six Flags event hosted by Life Teen on Saturday, November 7th. 20 students and Core Members enjoyed a day of fun at the park, riding roller coasters and bonding
with other local parishes. In the evening we attended Mass, had praise
and worship and ended the evening with adoration. It truly was inspiring
for all of us to be in the presence of nearly 7,000 other Catholic teens celebrating Mass in such a unique and special way. Our next Life Teen event
will be held on Saturday, December 12th in celebration of Our Lady of
Guadalupe. Details will be released next week!

DETENGA EL SUICIDIO ASISTIDO
¡Detenga el suicidio asistido en California antes de
que sea demasiado tarde! Este año, a través de una
Sesión Especial, la legislatura de CA aprobó el suicidio asistido permitiendo que médicos prescriban
sobredosis de medicamento a pacientes con enfermedades terminales. Hágase socio de una coalición
de médicos, enfermeras, organizaciones para derechos de discapacitados, y personas de todas las religiones para apoyar la las vidas de nuestros ancianos
y moribundos y ¡opóngase al suicidio asistido! El 22
de noviembre, domingo de Cristo Rey, habrá peticiones disponibles para firmar afuera de la Misa.
Quienes firmen deben estar registrados para votar y
solo se puede firmar una vez.
¿POR QUÉ OPONERSE
AL SUICIDIO ASISTIDO?
• Manda el Mensaje Equivocado: Legalizar el suicidio para personas con enfermedades terminales,
mientras disuadimos al resto de la población, enseña que las vidas de los enfermos y discapacitados
no importan en nuestra sociedad.
• Empeorara el Cuidado del Paciente: A pacientes
en otros estados, como Barbara Wagner en Oregón,
se les está negando tratamiento recetado por sus
médicos, y en su lugar se les está ofreciendo medicinas para asistir el suicidio.
• Aumentará el Índice de Suicidios sin enfermedades terminales: Los suicidios suben cuando el

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
Al prepararnos para celebrar la Fiesta de Nuestra
Señora de Guadalupe, quisiera tomar esta oportunidad para ofrecerles mi más sentido agradecimiento a nuestra comunidad de fe por su apoyo
firme de las muchas actividades que constituyen
la vida parroquial aquí en San Andrés.
En verdad, al acercarnos al 2016 nuestra comunidad parroquial continúa a crecer, y, más significante, este crecimiento refleja la comunidad más
grande de Pasadena, incluyendo su poblaciones
hispanas, filipinas, afro-americanos, y anglos.
Estoy profundamente agradecido al liderazgo
proveído por estos grupos, porque ellos juntos
abarcan, celebran y promueven la diversidad de
nuestra parroquia, y al hacerlo, ellos nos enriquecen a todos en el nombre de Dios Todopoderoso y
de San Andrés, nuestro patrón.
En la portada de atrás del boletín de esta semana están los recipientes del Cuarto Premio Anual
Visión 2015 de la parroquia de San Andrés. Este
premio es dado en honor a aquellos individuos
quienes mejor encarnan y promueven la visión de
la Iglesia, y que trabajan incansablemente para
hacernos una sola familia, una familia unida. Adicionalmente, escogimos honrarlos el 12 de diciembre. Este día es apropiado precisamente por
la huella espiritual pasada por estas dos figuras en
la narrativa de este día de fiesta—Nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe, la Madre de las Américas al igual
que las Madre de todos, y San Juan Diego, un
discípulo de largo tiempo al servicio y constructor
de puentes.

PROGRAMA DE CONFIRMACIÓN Y EL MINISTERIO DE JÓVENES
RINCÓN DE LOS PADRES: MÁS DE LO QUE SU HIJO ESTÁ APRENDIENDO
EN ONE8 CONFIRMACIÓN.
Primer Año: Este mes en One Eight hablamos de Dios como un arquitecto y maestro
del plan de salvación. Este fue el plan que Dios comenzó después de la caída de la
humanidad con el pecado, un plan que se cumplió en la Encarnación de Cristo, su
Muerte y Resurrección. Este plan continúa a través de la Iglesia y los Sacramentos. A
los adolescentes se les dio la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre sus propios planes, y

que nuestros planes. Durante esta semana, tómense algún tiempo para hablar sobre esta sesión
con sus hijos adolescentes. Algunas preguntas que pueden empezar la conversación:
• ¿Qué crees que es el plan de Dios para ti? ¿Por qué?
• ¿Cuáles son algunos de tus anhelos para el próximo año? Y para los próximos cinco años?
• ¿Crees que es más fácil confiar en Dios, o confiar en ti mismo? ¿Por qué?
Segundo Año: Este mes en OneEight hablamos sobre los últimos tres dones del Espíritu Santo:
la fortaleza, piedad y temor de Dios. Comparamos estos dones en relación con la vida de los
santos y mártires. Los candidatos se enfrentaron al reto de no sólo emular la vida de los santos,
sino también establecer una relación con ellos a través de la oración de intercesión. A los candidatos se les dieron la oportunidad de elegir un santo en particular de cual querían saber más,
y acabamos la sesión con una novena dedicada al patrón de nuestra parroquia, San Andrés. Les
exhortamos a participar en la oración esta novena con su hijo o hija durante los próximos ocho
días. Por mientras, empiecen la semana hablando sobre esta sesión con su candidato usando las
siguientes preguntas:
• ¿Qué santo elegiste para conocer más acerca de en OneEight? ¿Qué aprendió de él o ella?
• ¿Cómo se puede imitar las cualidades de ese santo? ¿Qué dones del Espíritu Santo hizo retratar su vida?

a sus hijos adolescentes el año que viene cuando las registraciones comiencen en julio. ¡Gracias!
LA INSPIRACIÓN EN SIX FLAGS
Nuestro ministerio de Pastoral Juvenil asistió a la inspiración anual en Six Flags, un evento organizado por Life Teen el sábado, 7 de noviembre. 20 estudiantes y miembros del ministerio
disfrutaron de un día de diversión en el parque, subiéndose a montañas rusas y convivieron
con otras parroquias locales. Por la tarde asistieron a la santa misa, donde tuvieron alabanzas y
terminamos la noche con adoración al santísimo. Fue verdaderamente una gran inspiración para
todos nosotros alestar en la presencia de casi 7,000 otros adolescentes católicos celebrando la
Misa de un modo único y especial.
Nuestro próximo evento para los adolescentes se llevará a cabo el sábado 12 de diciembre en la
celebración de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Detalles se darán a conocer la próxima semana!
