Dolceamore, Sr. 12:00 p.m. Andrew Buonanni Dear Friends,! Well, it has finally arrived…the week we have been looking forward to in hope and expectaon. Oh, yes, the Pope is coming, but I was thinking of Catechecal Sunday, which the Church in the United States celebrates today in every parish throughout the country. Every year on the 3rd Sunday of September, as the schools and religious educaon programs are in the process of starng up again, we take me to acknowledge and thank all who parcipate in the ministry of catechesis. The Greek root of the word “catechist” means “to echo.” So, a catechist is an echo of the Word of God, and it refers to PREP catechists; those who teach our faith through the Catholic School; those who work with adult faith formaon and converts, etc. Pope Francis, in an address to catechists two years ago, said this: Catechesis is a pillar of faith educaon and we need good catechists! To help children, young people and adults to know and love the Lord more and more is one of the most excing aspects of educaon.” So, as the new Director of Religious Educaon here in the parish, I am humbled and blessed to work with such faith filled men and women who carry the tle CATECHIST.! And, oh yes, the other very important event this week is the long awaited and ancipated World Meeng of Families and the arrival of Pope Francis on our shores and in our very own region. We should be very excited and proud as Catholics to experience all that will be taking place this coming week! May we have open ears and open hearts to hear the message of mercy, gentleness and hope that Pope Francis brings and may his words inspire us to go forth and bear good fruit and to culvate peace. I hope you can enjoy this historic week, either in person, or through prayer (and the TV).! Welcome Pope Francis! ! Welcome, holy pilgrims and guests to our city! ! Thank you, Catechists! Sister Eileen Tiernan, I.H.M.! RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Do you have a sense that the Lord is calling you to embrace the Catholic Faith? Catechetical Sunday September 20, 2015 This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 20, 2015, and will focus on the theme "Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person." Those members of our parish who serve as catechists in our School, PREP and Adult Faith Formation will be called forth during our 10:30 Mass to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. ! ST.
