Although the holiday lacks much of the commercialism and stress that is associated with other holidays, (unless you are responsible to prepare the dinner for your family), we can fall into the trap that Thanksgiving Day is the unofficial start of the “holiday season.” We’ve already begun to hear radio stations playing Christmas music and the television airing ads from your favorite stores. Thanksgiving Day, a beautiful holiday, tends to get lost by people looking beyond that day and focusing on the “holiday season.” The question is “what should we do?” The answer, “stop everything and reflect on the purpose of the holiday upon us… Thanksgiving!” The word Eucharist comes from the Greek word meaning “to give thanks” – so what better way to begin the upcoming holiday than to join in the Eucharistic celebration. Allow the purpose of this day to be how you celebrate! You are invited to join us in giving thanks at our Thanksgiving liturgy on Thursday, November 27th …9:00 AM (there will be no other masses that day). I pray that each of us may reflect upon the many blessings in our lives and give thanks, not only on Thanksgiving Day, but each day of our lives.
