LOAD HANDLING
WIDE VISIBLE MAST (SV)
MASTS
Masts give the support needed for materials handling.
Besides the general-use standard masts, there are a variety of
masts with different constructions and specifications to meet the
diverse handling characteristics found throughout the world.
The masts are divided into the following categories:
Mast Type
Wide Visible Mast (V)
Two-Stage Type
Wide Visible Mast (SV)
Wide Visible Full-Free Lift
Two-Stage Mast (FV)
Three-Stage Type
Wide Visible Full-Free Lift
Three-Stage Mast (FSV)
WIDE VISIBLE FULL-FREE LIFT TWO-STAGE MAST (FV)
The center lift cylinder found in the two-stage mast has been
replaced by two lift cylinders, one each being located behind
the right and left channels of the mast. This construction gives
the operator better forward visibility, improves safety and
reduces operating fatigue.
The SV mast has a larger amount of free lift than the V mast.
WIDE VISIBLE FULL-FREE LIFT
THREE-STAGE MAST (FSV)
This type of mast is divided into
three stages, inner, middle and
outer. The advantage of this type
of mast construction is that the
mast can be retracted into a
relatively low profile, yet has the
capacity to extend to high fork
heights. Thus, the forklift truck
could carry a load through a low
entrance and then raise it to a high
rack position for storage. When
combined with the full-free lift ability,
this type of mast is
well suited for low-entrance/highceiling warehouses.
The basic construction of this mast is the same as the
two-stage type mast with the exception of its free-lift ability.
This free-lift ability makes the mast well-suited for low-ceilinged
worksites such rail cars and containers. Once the load has
been removed from the low-ceilinged area, it can be lifted to the
desired height in the same manner as with the regular masts.
The special characteristics of the full-free lift mast make it
suitable for use inside ships, containers and warehouses with
low ceilings. It has been widely accepted at transport and
stevedoring operations.

HIGH LOAD BACKREST
FULLY OIL CHARGED LIFT CYLINDER
The upper chamber of the lift cylinder may be filled with oil
(charged) to prevent rust from forming inside the lift cylinder.
The fully oil charged lift cylinder is recommended for
applications where the forklift truck is exposed to extremely
salty or damp working conditions.
The backrest extension (high load backrest) allows loads that
extend above the carriage to be handled safely. It prevents the
load from slipping back over the top of the backrest and being
stained or damaged by the chain or other parts of the mast
assembly.
LONG FORKS
LOAD BACKREST (ANGLE SHAPE TYPE)
LOAD BACKREST (FLAT STEEL TYPE)
Angle Shape Type
Flat Steel Type
The forks are used to carry the load. There are many different
shapes and sizes available. Replacing the forks is easy to do
so they may be selected to match the material being handled.
LONG FORKBAR
Two types of load backrest are available: the Flat Steel Type
and the Angle Shape Type.
REINFORCED HIGH LOAD BACKREST
(ANGLE SHAPE TYPE)
The forkbar complies with ITA and ISO specifications, thus
different makes of forks can be used without modification to the
forks or forkbars. The upper forkbar is designed so that forks
may be quickly mounted on it and adjusted to meet a wide
range of fork spreads. The lower rear section of the fork rests
against the lower forkbar.
S06-OPT-02
Recommended: When loads, such as frozen foods, are
being restacked on pallets and the backrest causes
indentations in the load.

TILT CYLINDER BOOTS
MAST TILT INDICATOR
Since the piston rod for the tilt cylinder is coated with oil, it is
easy for dirt and sand to stick to it.
In extreme cases, this dirt could scratch the piston rod surface.
To prevent this, the tilt cylinder boots cover the exposed area of
the piston rod.
They are designed to expand and contract with the movements
of the tilt cylinder.
Application: Areas that have higher than normal
concentrations of sand and dust.
TILT CYLINDER HOLE BOOTS
One glance tells the operator the tilt angle of the mast.
A calibrated plate is attached to head of the tilt cylinder at the
point where it is joined to the mast frame.
The indicator rod is attached to the base of the tilt cylinder and
as the indicator plate moves past, it points out the amount of tilt
forward or backward. It’s also a quick way to confirm that the
mast is upright and the forks are level.
TRAVEL AND LOAD HANDLING CONTROL
Toyota’s advanced technology provides features that help
reduce the potential for forklift or load instability.
Lift-Height and Load-Sensing Vehicle Speed Control
limits forklift maximum speed with loads at high lift heights.
Lift-Height and Load Sensing Sudden Start-Off Prevention
Feature reduces load spill risk from abrupt acceleration or
direction selection lever operation with loads at high lift heights.
Keeps dust and dirt away from the tilt cylinder areas, protecting
them from damage and helping to ensure reliable operation.
They also help to contain operating noise.
LASER MARKER
Low-Speed Setting allows operator to set lower travel speed
which is activated by touching a button.
Maximum Speed Limitation allows restriction of maximum
travel speed.
Automatic Idle-up Device increases idling revolution so loads
are lifted without using the accelerator.
The following should be noted in regard to Travel and Load
Handling Control.
On up grade, the set speed may not be reached due to engine
output. Also on down grade, gravity may cause preset speed to
be exceeded. Although maximum speed and sudden
acceleration are reduced in relation to load height and weight,
this does not eliminate the possibility of tip-over. Toyota’s
advanced technology helps reduce the potential of forklift
instability. However, the operator is ultimately responsible for
safe operation.
A red beam will point out your forks’ height to the goods. This
will support your operation especially in higher position.

FORK VIBRATION DAMPER
A fork vibration damper has been newly established as an
option. This helps prevent load spills, transmission of shaking
from the traveling surface to the load, and rattle.
To dampen vibration and shaking of the forks, an accumulator
is incorporated into the hydraulic circuit for the lift cylinder to
reduce pulsation. The structure and accumulator specifications
are as shown below.

PRE-CLEANER
ENGINE
LP GAS FUEL SYSTEM
LP gas is the first preference of large-fleet operations, especially
those locations where handling is carried out inside enclosed or
semi-enclosed areas. Its popularity comes from the fact that LP
gas is relatively inexpensive and that its
clean-burning characteristics contribute to a healthier working
environment.
TOYOTA offers two LP gas systems: a convertible type that
can be switched from gasoline to LP gas and the inverse, and a
non-convertible (exclusive) type LP gas system. The
convertible type is easy to use and allows the owner to switch
fuel sources to meet his demands.
CYCLONE AIR CLEANER
Large particle
Intake air is pre-cleaned. It is highly recommended in dusty
applications along with Cyclone Air Cleaner (Dual Elements).
Air
Application: Recommended for locations that are extremely
dusty.
UPSWEPT EXHAUST
This unit uses the centrifugal force created by a series of blades
to drive dust particles against the wall of the unit and direct
them to a collection point. This vortex of air removes larger
particles while smaller particles are trapped by the filter
element.
A two-element unit is available to filter the air even more. A
paper filter is used so the amount of flow restriction is minimal.
SIDE-ANGLE TAILPIPE
The exhaust pipe is located at the side of the truck to avoid the
exhaust gas going directly to the goods carried on the trolleys.
THROTTLE ADJUSTER
The idle speed can be adjusted with the knob on the front
panel.
2-STATOR TORQUE CONVERTER
Smooth, jolt-free shifting is automatically performed without the
use of a shift lever. Since no shifting operation is required, less
chance for overheating and clutch damage.
S06-OPT-05
Exhaust gases are passed through a muffler and are then
directed out an extended tail pipe. This construction helps to
direct exhaust gases up and away from those working around
the forklift truck. It also keeps exhaust gases from being blown
back on the operator when the forklift truck is being run is
reverse.
Application: Areas with many workers or where exhaust could
stir up dust.

The DPF system has a honeycomb design that uses a porous
ceramic material that has been used in Toyota automobiles.
This material is highly resistant to heat, yet has low pressure
loss for a high particle collection ratio. With this system, the
black particles expelled from the diesel engine are collected by
the thin porous walls enclosed in a stainless steel muffler which
is attached to the vehicle by heat-resisting mounts.
Hydrocarbons in the exhaust not collected by this system pass
on to the catalytic converter where they are removed.

This muffler is very useful when the vehicle is used in an
enclosed or semi-enclosed area. A catalytic muffler reduces
the amount of dangerous and offensive gases the engine emits.
Exhaust gas is passed through a catalyst, platinum mounted on
a special ceramic support, to remove harmful gases.
With this system, a properly tuned engine can obtain a 90%
purification rate for hydrocarbons (HC) and approximately a
80% rate for carbon monoxide (CO).
Section A - A
This spark guard net fits on the end of the exhaust pipe and
prevents sparks from leaving the exhaust system.
It is constructed of a series of metal nets that collect and
destroy large carbon particles.
These nets are constructed of a metal that is highly heat
resistant and will not rust or corrode.
Application: Any area where carbon exhaust sparks could
create a fire hazard.
Application: Any area where cleaner exhaust emissions are
required.

RADIATOR SCREEN
CYCLONE MUFFLER
The cyclone muffler can be mounted on the tailpipe of any
model to prevent sparks from leaving the exhaust system.
NOTE:
The cyclone air cleaner offers slightly inferior noise reduction
than the standard muffler.
PLATE FIN TYPE RADIATOR
Application: Areas with airborne dust, fiber or paper.
This screen is located between the radiator and the fan. It
prevents material from being blown into the radiator and
causing clogs.
It is highly recommended for the textile industry where soft,
airborne pieces of fabric are abundant.
The screen can be removed or replaced easily and can be
cleaned with either water or compressed air.
COOLING FAN BOOSTER KIT
Application: Areas with heavy concentration of airborne dust
or fiber.
Corrugate Fin Type
Plate Fin Type
Plate fin type radiator consists of plate fin instead of corrugate
fin, which reduces the risk of clogging.
The cooling fan booster kit provides approximately 15% more
airflow than the standard model, improving cooling performance
for water and oil temperature.
HIGH CAPACITY ALTERNATOR
Recommended when optional equipment, such as an air
conditioner or cooler, is added or if the vehicle will be used for
extended night-time operation. The high capacity alternator
provides enough output to
power these options, even with the engine at idling speeds.
SEDIMENTER
The sedimenter separates water that has been trapped in the
diesel fuel. This water is collected inside the separator and
when the level preceeds a pre-set level, a light on the
instrument panel comes on. The collected water can be
released by loosening the drain bolt on the bottom of the
sedimenter.
LONG LIFE COOLANT 50%
HIGH CAPACITY BATTERY
This battery is recommended for vehicles in cold climates or for
those that are stopped and started frequently.
ANTI-RESTART IGNITION KEY SWITCH
To protect the starter motor, an anti-restart ignition key switch
is available to prevent mistakenly attempting to crank the
engine when it has been started.
The 30% solution (standard) lowers the freezing point to -16°C
(3.2°F). The solution with the concentration as high as 50%
(option) allows the coolant to resist freezing until approximately
-35°C (-31°F).

BATTERY HANGER
BATTERY AND CONTROLLER
BATTERY
There are two types of batteries that can be shipped with the
forklift truck: the wet cell and the dry cell battery.
Wet Cell
Once the electrolyte has been refilled, there is no need to add
more and the battery can be used immediately. However, the
capacity of the battery will deteriorate when used for extended
periods of time.

Dry Cell
Electrolyte must be added. However, if the battery is used for
extended periods of operation, the capacity of the battery will
not decrease. Its capacity can be restored to its original
capacity by replenishing the electrolyte.

BATTERY CASE
There are various sizes of battery cases available to match the
size and capacity of the battery mounted on an electric-powered
vehicle.

Features
DT: The wheel divides into right and left parts so changing the
tire is easy. This is the most common rim for industrial vehicles.
DC: This is a solid rim generally used with small-size tires.
IR: There is a groove in the side ring bead seat so the rim and
tire seal well. The wide width of the rim gives the tire
better lateral stability.
TB: There is a groove on both the right and left side of the side
ring bead seat so there is little slippage between the tire
and the wheel. This allows for better braking and traction. In
addition, the separate construction of the rim section and wheel
section increases strength.
Since this tire will no mark the
traveling surface when braking,
it is suited for worksites such
as food processing plants
which stress hygiene.
SDC: The central section of the rim is recessed to improve
sealing between the rim and tire.
The urethane tire is designed
for resistance to wear and the
ability to withstand heavy
loads.
The urethane (long life) tire is
approximately a 30% more
resistant to cracks and wear
compared to the urethane tire.

electric-battery powered industrial trucks: E, ES, EE, and EX.
TOYOTA can optionally equip many of its industrial vehicles to
meet the requirements for the E and EE classifications. Each of
these types will have the specifications to meet the
requirements for ANSI B56.3/UL583.
A brief explanation of the various classifications and the
conditions they must meet is given below.
[II] INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE-POWERED IN
INDUSTRIAL TRUCKS (ANSI B56.4/UL588)
Underwriters’ Laboratories offers 7 classifications for I.C.
engine-powered industrial trucks and these are further divided
into fuel source:
Gasoline Truck: G, GS

An easy-to-reach manual disconnect switch (kill switch) must be
mounted within the operator’s reach.
The fuel tank must be made of steel that is at least 1.35 mm (0.053 in.)
thick and has ample strength and fire resistance and must have joints
and seams that meet construction standards.
The position of the fuel tank as well as the type and layout of fuel lines
must meet construction standards.
Both diesel and gasoline models must have a self-closing fuel cap and
vent.
All models must meet performance standards in such areas as fuel
consumption and engine backfire.

3) Calculate the load capacity
Select the formula (a to d) from Table 3 below according to Table 1.
Use the data in Table 2 to calculate the selected fomula to find W1 and W2.
Compare the results of W1 and W2. The smaller of the two is the load capacity.
W1: Load capacity for the unit body.
W2: Load capacity for the attachment.
