the water
One of the cities of Germany with the
most water. With numerous lakes and
canals. Situated directly on the River
Rhine and River Ruhr. With some 650
bridges to boast in the municipal area –
more bridges than in Venice or
St. Petersburg. And duisport –

To take a saunter along the banks of the restructured Inner
Harbour, the popular destination for an outing, with its
restaurants, cafes, cocktail bars and beer gardens. To recuperate and relax on the idyllic Sechs-Seen-Platte, the largest
suburban recreation park in the Duisburg area. For water
sports: From sailing, water skiing and canoeing at the Sportpark Duisburg – the venue for many international championships – to diving in the gasometer at the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, with a spectacular underwater world.

A green city with around 2,500 hectares
of forested area. With the only zoo in
Germany which houses koalas. Here, it's

unique wine festival, which regularly

Sportspeople from allover the world are always fired with
enthusiasm when they see the sports venues in Duisburg,
the professional organization of large events, but also
the enthusiastic Duisburg crowds that are always in
the know. No matter whether at the Canoeing World Championships on the Regattabahn Wedau or when running
a marathon – the cheering spectators motivate the
participants into giving their all.

THE CITY OF SPORT
With the sports complexes of the Sportpark Duisburg, the
city invites you to the widest range of sporting events. As the
venue for international competitions on the water and in the
sports complexes, such as the canoeing world championships or the World Games. As the host to the Italian national
team for example during the 2006 FIFA World Cup which was
also celebrated in Duisburg within the scope of a large
public viewing festival. And as a city with loyal fans, who
accompany Duisburg’s club steeped in tradition, MSV Duisburg and the women’s football club, FCR Duisburg, through
all the highs and lows, always providing a stirring atmosphere. Sport, culture and entertainment form one unit in Duisburg. That way, the major sporting events are celebrated with
a comprehensive cultural programme and offers made by
international catering companies – a city which knows how
to party and even enthuses sportspeople and the spectators.
