Production: Naïa Productions

France 3 Cinema
12 year-old Adama lives in a remote village in West Africa, sheltered by the Cliffs. Out, beyond, lies
“the land of breaths”, the kingdom of wicked spirits hungry for war. When Samba, his elder brother,
suddenly vanishes from the village, Adama decides to set off in search of him. Accompanied first by
Abdou, a tragically lucid griot, then by Maximin, a street urchin who is his own negative twin, he crosses
a Europe in the grip of war. We’re in 1914.
Borne by the energy of desperation and the poetry of childhood, Adama travels to the hell of the

A Heavy Heart
OLD WOUNDS ARE HARD TO HEAL
Former Eastern German boxing champ Herbert has not been a winner in life since the fall of the Berlin
Wall. Now a hard-up bouncer and debt collector, he tries to revive the past by coaching his young boxing
protégé, Eddy. After a training session, Herbert suddenly collapses with spasms of pain; however, he
initially chooses to ignore the signs. When his physical deficiencies become more and more apparent,
Herbert finally sees a specialist who ultimately diagnoses him with a fatal neural disease. With not much
time left, Herbert struggles with himself and the hard outer shell he‘s cultivated over time. Not many
things really matter to him apart from his ‘lost’ daughter Sandra, whom he abandoned when the family
fell apart. Now a mother herself, Sandra is still deeply hurt and afraid of allowing her dying father to be
a part of her life again. Student Academy Award winner Thomas Stuber tells the touching story of a lone
wolf who takes a long time to find the meaning of his life.

Matteo is fifteen, a fragile boy. He runs into the woods carrying his baby brother. It‘s a desperate attempt
to strike back at his oppressive father. The parents’ punishment for kidnapping the baby: three months
of hard work on a remote farm. On arrival, three hostile teenagers grab Matteo and lock him into a dog
cage. The farmer, who was supposed to take care of the kids, has lost control. Anton, an unpredictably
aggressive boy, is now in charge. He has given shelter to two other troubled, angry teenagers: Dion, a
boy from Kosovo, and Aline, a girl with a shaved head. Matteo is their dog. He earns their respect only
when he starts to stand up against them. He joins them on a mission: they drive down to the city. A feverish night full of violence and destruction. Their own war. Their own revenge against grown-ups. Against
everything. Matteo gets stronger, learns to fight and falls in love with Aline. He’s finally part of the pack.
The farm is their perfect hide-out, but there is no more going back.

The main source of inspiration for Paulo Coelho’s work is his own life. The author of “The Pilgrimage” and “The
Alchemist” is, no doubt, a celebrity, but only few know that the story of his life is even better than fiction. Paulo
flirted with death, escaped from madness, experimented with drugs, overcame torture, suffered and smiled for
love, made Rock and Roll History in Brazil, but never gave up on his biggest dream: to triumph as a writer.

Vienna, early 1930s. One fine evening, Sigmund Freud has a new patient on his couch – a mysterious
count who can no longer bear the “eternally long” relationship with his wife. The vain countess
incessantly complains about not being able to look at herself in a mirror, the count tells the professor.
Unaware of the fact that the count and his wife are vampires, Freud introduces his mysterious patient to
a young painter, Viktor, who paints portraits that express more than a mirror ever could. While visiting
the painter, the count takes an instant shine to Viktor’s girlfriend Lucy – more so than Viktor and the
countess would like.

run out of gas. Sami, who’s been living alone in his car since his ex kicked him out, invites Julia back to “his

Four years and a master degree later, Julia works for a fair-trade start-up business while Sami is working
on a country music act with his best friend Fernand. Already in his 70s, Fernand is an exuberant guitar
virtuoso who lives on his own in a nursing home. Sami and Fernand spend many happy hours together
jamming and drinking their way through bottles of fine wine.
Yet life with Julia becomes increasingly difficult. Over time, Sami’s happy-go-lucky attitude has begun to
grate on Julia and she decides it’s time to put their relationship on hold.
With nothing but his guitar and his pain, can a song save Sami’s love?

eight years after his training he still hasn‘t had a single hit. Bored and frustrated, he lives according to
the programme‘s strict rules – withdrawn, no social contact and constantly undercover. One day, the
shy Rosa crashes into his car and life. Before he knows it, Koralnik is having dinner with her. For the
first time, he can flee his everyday misery for an evening of company. But then the telephone rings. It’s
Koralnik‘s first job. With Rosa alongside, Koralnik sets off on a chaotic odyssey through a night in which
nothing goes according to plan. It is only when Koralnik‘s target is revealed to be none other than one of
his colleagues that the rigid concept by which he lives finally comes into question. He is confronted with
the dilemma of either protecting his secret programme or drawing a line under his unfulfilled existence
as a killer. It is the biggest liar of them all, Rosa, who forces him to confront his own life’s lie.
