Welcome to the 2016 GKAISA Coaches Meeting Agenda & Information 1. Call to Order 2. Roll- $25.00 fine for lack of representation. Please keep your contact information up to date on the GKAISA website for all the latest news. Minimally the head coach and team representative must be on email list. 3. Mandatory Meet Director training- Saturday May 21, UT SAC Upstairs Lobby at 9:00. Please let your meet director(s) know of this meeting. Agenda & Information 4. Annual Dues ($50) must be paid to Treasurer BEFORE the 1st swimmer enters the water at the beginning of the season. 5. Certificate of Insurance must be sent to Vice President by June 15. 6. All Coaches mandatory training and certification must be completed by June 1. 7. Pool Depth certification form must be sent to GKAISA President by June 1. Agenda & Information 8. Each team must submit depth measurements to GKAISA by June 1 and this will be posted on website. If supplied measurements are challenged and proven incorrect, in-water starts will be required at the substandard end(s). If on-deck starts are used anyway, host team will forfeit the meet. Important 2016 Points Important 2016 Points Additional Coach Training/Certification City Meet Coach / Helper Requirements(1) Per Tennessee Chapter 325; All coaches must complete training and submit a signed “Sudden Cardiac Arrest Information Sheet” each year. This requirement is similar to the concussion training and signature form already required. Copies of both forms must be sent to GKAISA by June 1. No one may coach at a practice or a meet until all training/certification is complete. All coaches and helpers must be a minimum of 16 years old to be on deck at City Meet. Each team may have a maximum of 8 coaches on deck for each day of the meet based on the formula of: 2 Coaches for first 20 entered athletes 1 additional Coach for each additional 20 athletes until maximum of 8 Coaches is reached 2 Important 2016 Points Important 2016 Points City Meet Coach / Helper Requirements(2) City Meet Parking/Traffic Changes Teams having 2 or fewer coaches may enlist parent ‘Helpers’ to be on deck with a maximum number of coaches & helpers not to exceed 2 on Friday and Sunday, and 4 on Saturday. Helpers must complete either Redwoods or USA Athlete protection training. The names of any Helpers must be turned in to GKAISA at the City Meet Entry Fees meeting. GKAISA has been informed that the parking garage across from the Allan Jones pool will be closed for refurbishment during the City Meet. GKAISA will be working with UT and other parties to minimize the effect of this parking loss. Please insure that all contact information for your team is correct on the GKAISA website as we will be passing important information along to your team as we develop our plans. Outline Mandatory GKAISA Coaches Training 2016 Coaches Training League Rules Technical Rules Rules Governing Meets Swim Meet Details Worker Requirements Questions GKAISA 3 Mandatory Coach Training All GKAISA Coaches must complete the Redwoods Institute “Child Sexual Abuse Prevention” course each two years as long as the expiration date is after the close of the season USA APT training is acceptable for meeting the above requirement as long as the expiration date is after the close of the season All GKAISA Coaches must complete approved Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training courses and complete the required checklist each year. Child Sexual Abuse Prevention “Child Sexual Abuse Prevention” course available online with link from GKAISA website. USA “Athlete Protection Training” through USA Swimming also meets this requirement Each coach is required to complete the course every two years. Failure to complete course will result in loss of deck privileges at GKAISA Championship Meet GKAISA GKAISA Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Per Tennessee state laws, all GKAISA coaches are required to read and initial/sign both the “Concussion Information and Signature Form for Coaches” and the “Coaches’ Sudden Cardiac Arrest Education and Information” documents. Additionally, GKAISA requires each coach to complete the online training courses available by links on the GKAISA website or at a GKAISA Training Clinic. It is required that training and appropriate signed forms be completed prior to assuming any coaching activities each year. GKAISA Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest One copy of each signed form must be sent to GKAISA Vice President and another copy held by the coaches team. Both GKAISA and the coaches team must hold the signed forms for a minimum of 3 years. Note there is a similar requirements for signed forms from the parent of each swimmer on a team to be completed prior to the swimmer entering the water for the first time. These forms must also be held by the team for a minimum of 3 years. Heat is recalled if false start is noted Backstroke GKAISA Turns GKAISA follows the NFHS (high school) turn rules instead of USA Swimming rules GKAISA 5 Technical Rules Technical Rules Breaststroke Start — The forward start shall be used. Stroke — After the start and after each turn when the swimmer leaves the wall, the body shall be kept on the breast. It is not permitted to roll onto the back at any time. Throughout the race the stroke cycle must be one arm stroke and one leg kick in that order. All movements of the arms shall be simultaneous and in the same horizontal plane without alternating movement. The hands shall be pushed forward together from the breast on, under, or over the water. The elbows shall be under water except for the final stroke before the turn, during the turn and for the last stroke at the finish. The hands shall be brought back on or under the surface of the water. The hands shall not be brought back beyond the hipline, except during the first stroke after the start and each turn. During each complete cycle, some part of the swimmer’s head shall break the surface of the water. After the start and after each turn, the swimmer may take one arm stroke completely back to the legs. The head must break the surface of the water before the hands turn inward at the widest part of the second stroke. Breaststroke (continued) Kick — After the start and each turn, at any time prior to the first breaststroke kick, a single downward butterfly kick is permitted. Following which, all movements of the legs shall be simultaneous and in the same horizontal plane without alternating movement. The feet must be turned outward during the propulsive part of the kick. A scissors, alternating movements or downward butterfly kicks are not permitted except as provided herein. Breaking the surface of the water with the feet is allowed unless followed by a downward butterfly kick. Turns and Finish — At each turn and at the finish of the race, the touch shall be made with both hands separated and simultaneously at, above, or below the water level. The head may be submerged after the last arm pull prior to the touch, provided it breaks the surface of the water at some point during any part of the last complete or incomplete cycle preceding the touch. GKAISA GKAISA Technical Rules Technical Rules Butterfly Start — The forward start shall be used. Stroke — After the start and after each turn, the swimmer’s shoulders must be at or past the vertical toward the breast. The swimmer is permitted one or more leg kicks, but only one arm pull under water, which must bring the swimmer to the surface. It shall be permissible for a swimmer to be completely submerged for a distance of not more than 15 meters (16.4 yards) after the start and after each turn. By that point, the head must have broken the surface. The swimmer must remain on the surface until the next turn or finish. From the beginning of the first arm pull, the body shall be kept on the breast. Both arms must be brought forward over the water and pulled back simultaneously. Kick — All up and down movements of the legs and feet must be simultaneous. The position of the legs or the feet need not be on the same level, but they shall not alternate in relation to each other. A scissors or breaststroke kicking movement is not permitted. Turns — At each turn the body shall be on the breast. The touch shall be made with both hands separated and simultaneously at, above, or below the water surface. Once a touch has been made, the swimmer may turn in any manner desired. The shoulders must be at or past the vertical toward the breast when the swimmer leaves the wall. Finish — At the finish, the body shall be on the breast and the touch shall be made with both hands simultaneously at, above, or below the water surface. Backstroke GKAISA Start — The swimmers shall line up in the water facing the starting end, with both hands placed on the gutter or on the starting grips. Standing in or on the gutter, placing the toes above the lip of the gutter, or bending the toes over the lip of the gutter, before or after the start, is prohibited. Stroke — The swimmer shall push off on his back and continue swimming on the back throughout the race. Some part of the swimmer must break the surface of the water throughout the race, except it shall be permissible for the swimmer to be completely submerged during the turn, at the finish, and for a distance of not more than 15 meters (16.4 yards) after the start and after each turn. By that point, the head must have broken the surface of the water. Turns — Upon completion of each length, some part of the swimmer must touch the wall. After the swimmer's head has passed the backstroke flag, prior to the turn, the swimmer's upper shoulder may (but is not required to) rotate past the vertical toward the breast before the touch is completed provided such rotation is accompanied by an initiation of the turning action or continuation into the wall. The initiation of the turning action shall be accomplished by a single-arm or simultaneous double-arm pull, or in the absence of such pulls, by a downward, underwater movement of the head. After the initiation of the turning action, no additional arm pulls may be started; however, kicking and gliding actions are permitted. The swimmer must have returned to a position on the back upon leaving the wall. Finish — Upon the finish of the race, the swimmer must touch the wall while on the back. GKAISA 6 Technical Rules Technical Rules Freestyle Start — The forward start shall be used. Stroke — In an event designated freestyle, the swimmer may swim any style, except that in a medley relay or an individual medley event, freestyle means any stroke other than butterfly, breaststroke or backstroke. Some part of swimmer must break the surface of the water throughout the race, except it shall be permissible for the swimmer to be completely submerged during the turn and for a distance of not more than 15 meters (16.4 yards) after the start and each turn. By that point the head must have broken the surface. Turns — Upon completion of each length the swimmer must touch the wall. Finish — The swimmer shall have finished the race when any part of his person touches the wall after completing the prescribed distance. Individual Medley – Fly, Back, Breast, Free Start — The forward start shall be used. Stroke — The stroke for each one-fourth of the designated distance shall follow the prescribed rules for that stroke. Turns • Intermediate turns within each stroke shall conform to the turn rules for that stroke. • The turns when changing from one stroke to another shall conform to the finish rules for the stroke just completed, and shall be as follows: Butterfly to backstroke — The swimmer must touch as described in butterfly finish. Once a legal touch has been made, the swimmer may turn in any manner, but the shoulders must be at or past the vertical toward the back when the swimmer leaves the wall. Backstroke to breaststroke — The swimmer must touch the wall while on the back. Once a legal touch has been made, the swimmer may turn in any manner but the shoulders must be at or past the vertical toward the breast when the swimmer leaves the wall and the prescribed breaststroke form must be attained prior to the first arm stroke. Breaststroke to freestyle — The swimmer must touch as described in breaststroke finish. Once a legal touch has been made, the swimmer may turn in any manner. Finish — The swimmer shall have finished the race when any part of his/her person touches the wall after the prescribed distance. GKAISA GKAISA Technical Rules Technical Rules Relays Freestyle Relay — Four swimmers on each team, each to swim one-fourth of the prescribed distance using any desired stroke(s). Freestyle finish rules apply. Medley Relay — Four swimmers on each team, each to swim one-fourth of the prescribed distance in the following order: first, backstroke; second, breaststroke; third, butterfly; and fourth, freestyle. Rules pertaining to each stroke used shall govern where applicable. At the end of each leg, the finish rule for each stroke applies in each case. GKAISA Relays (continued) Rules Pertaining to Relay Races • No swimmer shall swim more than one leg in any relay event. • When automatic relay take-off judging is used, each swimmer must touch the touch-plate or pad in his/her lane at the end of the course to have finished his/her leg of the relay race. • In relay races a swimmer other than the first swimmer shall not start until his/her teammate has concluded his/her leg. • Any relay team member and his/her relay team shall be disqualified from a race if a team member other than the swimmer designated to swim that leg enters the pool in the area where the race is being conducted before all swimmers of all teams have finished the race. Exception: When an in-thewater start is required or such start is approved by the Referee. • Each relay team member shall leave the water immediately upon finishing his/her leg, except the last member. • In relay races the team of a swimmer whose feet have lost touch with the starting platform (ground or deck) before his/her preceding teammate touches the wall shall be disqualified. • In relay races involving in-the-water starts, the team of a swimmer who has lost touch with the end of the course before his/her preceding teammate touches the wall shall be disqualified, unless the swimmer in default returns to the original starting point at the wall. GKAISA 7 Outline Rules Governing Meets GKAISA follows USA Swimming Rules, except as superseded by current GKAISA General or Championship Rules No smoking or alcohol in pool area for any GKAISA meet: Dual, Tri, & Championship Proper conduct is expected Mandatory Coaches Training League Rules Technical Rules Rules Governing Meets Swim Meet Details Worker Requirements Questions GKAISA Swimmer is not eligible if he/she has trained with a collegiate swim or dive team, regardless of age Must compete in age group (age as of midnight, May 31, 18 or younger) 10 & under swim 25 yard events, 100 yd IM 11-12 swim 50 yard events, 100 yd IM 13 & up swim 50 yard events, 200 yd IM Swimmer may swim in 4 events, any combination of individual and relay. Swimmers in League 5 & 6 (only) may swim in 5 events, in certain combinations. Depth information will be available on GKAISA website. See League Rule 11.11 Host club must inform visiting team of any ‘unusual’ aspects of their pool facilities at least one week prior to the meet.
