Cuda Cool News - Broadstone Barracudas
Cuda Cool News Issue 12 July 9, 2014 Coaches’ Corner Champs @ Sierra College By Brian Heise Champs is an exciting and fun weekend of competition and spirit, with thousands attending (swimmers and families). We hope to get a HUGE turnout of Cudas at this big event! Cudas!!! I can’t wait to see how we do as we close our season with Sierra Sharks and College Greens Gators! I’m so excited at our team’s progress and amazed at how our team is so united. I feel like we have come so far as a community of swimmers, parents, volunteers, coaches, and everything else in between! Let’s close our season with a bang as we compete against these last two teams in our league. Honor each other, honor the other team, and most importantly, honor yourselves as we compete against the Sierra Sharks. We beat them last year for the first time, and we can do it again! Tips from the Coaches: Amusement, and what “winning” really means: as a swimmer you do your best when you are amused at what you are doing in the pool. The expression “like water off a duck’s back” comes to mind. When you are amused, life isn’t as serious and you are able to perform better. Problems, issues and stress roll off of you easily. Did you know that the Latin root for winning is “to untangle knots”? Andrea Bocelli sang the following at the 2006 Winter Olympics closing ceremony: “Like the stars across the sky, we were born to shine, and to shine, you must win. And so you will win.” July 12 @ Sierra Sharks Location: 2502 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park Check-in: 6:30–6:55 a.m. If you’re late, you will be scratched! Cudas warm-up: 7:30 a.m. Details: Read the Sierra Sharks welcome letter with meet details, parking info and directions > posted online under Events/Sierra Sharks meet. Set-up: Pop-up tents are allowed at the team area on the basketball/tennis courts above the pool. No pop-up tents allowed within the pool deck area (chairs and umbrellas are OK). IMPORTANT: READ THE CHAMPS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Click on the Champs tab on our website SWIMMER SIGN UPS DEADLINE > THURSDAY, JULY 10 Please go online ASAP and declare YES or NO for your swimmer(s). Put a check mark next to all days/sessions for the days your swimmer is swimming. VOLUNTEER SIGN UPS > COMING SOON We will send an email announcing when jobs will be released. Missed Picture Day? The make-up date/time is Monday, July 14 at 5 p.m. sharp! This is for individual pictures only. Message to Volunteers Cuda families: As we head into our final two meets, please remember that you have to sign up to work a job if you have a swimmer registered to swim a meet. Failure to do so jeopardizes your “good standing” with the team, which may result in your swimmer being pulled from the meet, loss of priority registration and possibly being banned from future participation with the team. Champs volunteer job signups will be released soon with more info coming. If you have any special requests or emergencies, please email me. We work to accommodate everyone’s needs and fully understand that life happens. Let’s have a great meet and swim faster than the Sharks! –Brett Weshner > [email protected] ~ Spirit Stuff ~ Coach Appreciation Week Who do we appreciate?
