There’s a ringing majesty to “Turpentine”, the first single from the Manvils’
new self-titled album. In total, the song comes clad in echoes of all your
favourites, from the Clash to the Who. It’s a decisive and muscular way to
start a record, and with expectations this high, it oughta be. Everybody is on
point for The Manvils, starting with an implacable rhythm section that can
sit in the pocket without ever leaning on the obvious, like in the swaggering
16ths of album opener “Good Luck Club”. Or they can go wide, with bassist
Greg Buhr lacing yawning counter-melodies throughout “Hollow Hands”,
and drummer Koenderman bringing the otherwise deliberate “Guillotine”
to a boiling tumult of snare, toms, and violence.
In guitar world, Manville and his comrade Mark Parry go candy-store
on The Manvils. “True Believers” brackets its lighter-than-air, Eaglesinspired choruses and quasi-Dylanesque poetics with a bruiser’s catalogue
of anguished metallic sounds. By Manville’s own reckoning, “Substation”
is “Smithsy”, thanks to Parry’s inspired contribution. “It’s very distinctive,”
Manville declares. “That’s when you hear the Brit side of the band, and then
it gets into a fight with the Americana voice.”
The production is bright, tasteful, and loud enough to rattle all the right
inner-ear bones, and the playing is textured and imaginative. It’s 35 minutes
of deft, intelligent, passionate rock ‘n’ roll, and a triumph for everyone
concerned.
- The Manvils recently toured New York, LA and Toronto three times in
six months - and all major cities between - All this mileage has helped The Manvils
attract a healthy cross-border buzz and capture opening slots with Stereophonics,
They Might Be Giants, HorrorPops, SuicideGirls, The Bellrays and hand picked by
Bif Naked to open for her National 2009 Tour.

Beatallica, the only band in the world legally approved to bash up The Beatles and Metallica into original
masterpieces returns with the all new Masterful Mystery Tour release. The band has toured the world
converting fans into Beatalli-Bangers since 2004 with their fun live show, technically brilliant
musicianship and uncanny ability to craft two polar opposite bands into new unique must hear songs
that makes even Sgt. Hetfield himself say “F**ckin-A-Right.”

NEW RELEASE ON ALLIGATOR RECORDS
Tommy Castro plays rockin’, blues-infused R&B music fired by his razorsharp guitar work and urgent vocals. In 18 years and eight releases, he
has built a huge live following and amassed over 220,000 SoundScans,
with his last release, 2007’s Painkiller, currently over 27,000. Hard
Believer is Castro’s Alligator debut and with the label’s extensive
promotional efforts behind him for the first time, he’s sure to reach new
levels of popularity.
Castro won the 2008 Blues Music Award (the Grammy of the Blues) for
B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year and is renowned for his dynamic live
performances. He’s also one of the hardest-touring artists in music,
playing over 150 dates a year across the U.S. and around the world
including recent dates in Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Belgium
and France.
Over the years, Tommy Castro has earned continuing raves from the
press (e.g. Playboy, Guitar, Guitar One, Guitar Player, Blues Revue, Living
Blues, Soul Bag, Blues Matters). He has a mainstream appeal few blues/
roots acts can claim.
Castro has been a mainstay on blues, rock and roots radio for years and
Hard Believer has what it takes to keep the airplay coming.
“HE CAN DO NO
WRONG...SOULFUL,
HEARTFELT VOCALS
AND EXQUISITE,
STELLAR GUITAR.
AN INSPIRED BLEND
OF BLUES, R&B,
SOUL AND ROADHOUSE
ROCK” –Blues Revue
Hard Believer is produced by John Porter (Los Lonely Boys,
Santana, Buddy Guy, Elvis Costello) and shows just how much
heart and soul an album can hold. Whether burning up a frisky
rocker or steaming through a soulful ballad, Castro stokes the
intensity with stinging guitar and gritty singing. Songs include
six typically sharp Castro originals along with some tasty
covers, including Wilson Pickett’s “Ninety-Nine And One Half
(Won’t Do)” and Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody.”
SUPPORT FOR HARD BELIEVER
tAdvertising includes ads in Living Blues, Blues Revue,
Blues Matters (UK), Maple Blues (Canada), Red Hot Rock
(Sweden) and Rhythms (Australia).
tRadio servicing to blues shows in Canada, Europe,
UK and Australia, and various internet music
programmers worldwide.
tIn-store play copies and color posters will be available
for retail.

In Australia, a Songman is a revered tribal member who is
the custodian of the songs and stories of the Dreamtime,
which are not written but are passed down orally from
generation to generation. Aboriginal statesman David
Gulpilil invited Nomad/Plack to Arnhem Land to live, write
and record music together under the stars. With tribal elder
approval, which permitted the public performance of these
songs, Plack was able to translate tribal chants into English
and create new songs that retained the spirit and intention
of the original language while allowing us to understand the
message.
Songman was recorded on Aboriginal land within the
community of Ramingining in Arnhem Land, Australia and
features the hypnotic didgeridoo and vocals of Australian
composer/producer Nomad/Plack, along with tribal chants
by Aboriginal Songmen, the multi-talented dancer/actor,
David Gulpilil (Walkabout, Crocodile Dundee, Storm Boy,
The Last Wave), Bobby Bunnungurr and Jimmy Jidamin.
The result is a fresh and evocative blend of ancient voice
and rhythms that, along with the catchiest grooves,
succinctly captures the essence of contemporary, cultural
Australia.

Wonerwheel is a side project for Oyvind Holm (Deleted
Waveform Gatherings) and Ulf Risnes (Tre Sma
Kinesere, U.R.O.), both from Trondheim, Norway. The
duo have created a pop harmonic sound not unlike a
poppier Grizzly Bear.
“The Day I Fell To Earth” was playlisted on Norwegian
National Radio, and soon after an album was planned
for release on Rainbow Quartz International.
We at the label are reminded of a broad spectrum of
perfect pop as created by the likes of Crowded House,
Ryan Adams, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon with a
breezy likeness at times to such paragons of the past
few decades as Seals & Crofts, Little River Band and
Loggins & Messina and yet the first track has the
cutting-edge avante-garde feel of Another Green
World-era Brian Eno… and even Bowie from his
“Sound and Vision” days. This album is a masterpiece
of top quality pop songcraft.

The June hail from Parma, Italy. Chris (guitar, vocals),
White (bass, vocals) and G (drums) had common musical
interests in psychedelia, pop and garage-rock from the
sixties punk, beat and mod cultures. This energetic Italian
trio carved an original repertoire influenced by the Beatles,
Byrds, Stooges, Sex Pistols, Jam, Oasis and Kula Shaker.
Their first single was a Pete Ham cover “Make Me Feel
Good.”
This is their debut album on Rainbow Quartz. Their sound
conjures the energy of labelmates Rock Four, The High
Dials and Sidonie, along with Oasis and The Three
O’Clock. Think the ‘80s Paisley Underground meets ‘60s
garage-y freakbeat psychedelia brought into the 21st
century.
They played the 2009 IPO Festival in Liverpool.

On’”), the cracker soulman persona (“My Baby Likes to Boogaloo”,
“Mananimous”), or the Tex Avery hillbilly (“Ice Queen”). And to keep it
honest, the pair showed up at the studio in early 2008 with a two-take
only mandate and at least three songs that had never been played in
their entirety before.
“Whip It On Ya” and “Blackbird Bakey Pie Blues” bookend matters with
two shots of Evil Doing at its most concentrated. The first is urgent,
demented, and “horny”, in Hope’s words – a hopped up, elastic shuffle
that makes your eyes spin. The second puts a big backbeat behind
Hope’s wrangling of a single chord.
“Death Bed Blues” meanwhile finds the pair laying back. “It turned out
heavy,” Hope comments, about an idea – no more than a riff - he’d been
noodling with for two years, live, nude, and right before people’s eyes.
“It sat there wanting to be a song, and it never got to be a song,” Hope
continues. “I put up the antennas one day.”
Same goes for “Let’s Jump Around Some”, which is “Hound Dog”,
“Psychotic Reaction”, and “Milk Cow Blues” appended to Hope’s laundry
list of friends, heroes, and fellow-travelers.
RICH HOPE LIKES IT DIRTY.
You can tell because he uses the word a lot – ‘dirty’.
And you can hear it in the “no-bass trash fest” he calls Whip It On Ya - his
second album of Evil Doings. “I’ve always been drawn to that sound on
guitar,” he says. “Dirty. Shitty. I want that amp to sound like it’s hurting.
Like it’s really making a bad noise. Hound Dog Taylor’s guitar sound is the
greatest thing to me. That’s dirty.”
2005’s Rich Hope and His Evil Doers signaled Hope’s descent into the belly
of the beast, with half of its running length dedicated to the dirt and the
shit that came to define his sound in the subsequent years. By his own
admission, it was a conflicted record.
“I was caught between a collection of old songs that I was very sure of,”
he explains, “and the new ones which were in a whole new direction
I was going, but not feeling quite at home.”
“I’m sure it’s what I should be doing now,” he adds.
Well, yeah. Three years of incendiary live shows have brought Hope and
his erstwhile tub-thumping partner the Cleethorpes Crasher aka Adrian
Mack into their own idiom. Part Mississippi hill-country blues, part rock
‘n’ roll, and in all ways the work of a two-man trio, the Evil Doers you
hear on Whip It On Ya is built on the Crasher’s swervy pocket, and Hope’s
always capricious muse. In other words, it’s a live record.
But the centrepiece of Whip It On Ya, and the purest expression of the
Evil Doin’ manifesto - from its one-day turnaround, sly lyrical nod towards
Son House, and it’s hefty spiritual weight - is the street-corner gospel
“When My Light Comes Shining”.
“We just fuckin’ nailed it,” Hope says, with a hint of awe, as if something
about its creation was out of his hands. “It’s not a light you want to close
your eyes to,” he asserts. “It’s a light you wanna step into and see. And
it’ll take all that earthly pain away. Everybody’s got shit, and anxiety, and
sadness, and we all go through a lot of pain to get through life. Life is
tough. Tough. That’s what it’s about.”
If these words seem a little jarring coming from an Evil Doer, please
consider that Hope’s project has always been to do God’s work with the
Devil’s music. “There’s a lot of bad juju out there,” he says. “We’re just
kicking back at it. Let’s have a beer, let’s have a dance, it’ll be okay.” Turns
out the Evil Doers are just taking the fight down there, so they don’t gotta
do it up here, as it were.
“That’s right,” he says. “We’re just making a house call.”
“Shows were not about what song should be played anymore,” Hope
states. “We just got in the space where we wanted to play boogie blues
music and rock ‘n’ roll, the way Bo Diddley would play a show.”
On stage, Mack keeps a tight bead on his frontman, who habitually
improvises through new variations on the one-chord dirge (“Rollin
