G20 should control China
before solving global issues
A group of nations, representing 85 per cent
of the world’s GDP and two-thirds of its population, under the banner of the G20, came together to discuss about how to prevent a looming
economic crisis. One should not forget that the
U.S. President Barack Obama had done a great
job by tackling cleverly the 2008 crisis.
Among the major issues that found mention
in the summit was the question of excess steel
capacity in China resulting in a flood of cheap
imports into India, the U.K. and other economies. Climate change was the other major agenda point. Numerous low-key objectives shared
by multiple G20 members, such as strengthening enforcement against international tax avoidance and advancing cooperation on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting, certainly got a shot in
the arm from this G20 gathering.
If the World wants to eradicate poverty by
eliminating malnutrition the rich nations will have
to reduce over consumption. Same goes with
rich and poor in every country. World is facing
two conditions - over consumption and under
consumption in the field of food, health and energy. We have different talk shops ending without compromise and without solution. G 20
should come up with some practical steps.
Bush administration should be praised for
reviving and revamping G-20, when the economic crisis erupted in 2008. But G-20 should form
a secretariat of its own and even its own enforcing machinery instead of relegating the works
to outside groups /agencies and the communiques. G-20 should not appear like Christmas
Trees promising goodies but no action.
One should feel relieved about the fact that
the fear that the global financial crisis of 2008
would lead to a worldwide depression has passed.
As far as India is concerned, we should think,
plan, act ahead with individuality, independence,
and better Economics management. But that
would need a more Imaginative and Visionary
leadership - taking advantage of the potentials.
Trying to align with anyone would not help. NAM
did not get us anywhere. It was discarded since
1992. Even in 1970s by the addition of word ‘socialist’ we were never ‘non-aligned’. Being a big
economy and big country with a big population
there is no way we can stand ‘non-aligned’. Particularly at this time of our story. 70% youth cannot be wasted in the name of NAM which gets
us no credible relations.
Lastly, G 20 hosted by China was not more
fruitful except the agreement between China and
US on Paris climate issue. India made a mention of Economic corridor via POK, China’s obstruction through NPT membership to block India’s NSG entry, and this made China accuse the
West for playing the role of protectionist in global trade and claiming its supremacy. West and
India rightly blame China and China tries to
down-play the West. G20 should first bring China under control and then solve global issues
across tables.

Love affair turns into a kidnapping case
By Tutu
NAVI MUMBAI: The Matheran residents were
surprised to see an (Audi) car on August 31,
2016 night in the heart of market area. A Dombivali businessman’s daughter put the Tilak
Nagar police of Dombivli in to a tricky situation thereby landing the car in to the area at
around 10.30 pm in the night. The 16 year
college girl had left home keeping a note
threatening to kill herself. She allegedly forced
her 17 year old lover to elope with her but
turned down. She switched off her mobile and
landed in the hill station. This happened four
years and seven months after Nita Ambani’s
car drove in to the Matheran eco-sensitive zone
and got booked for entering that area. Matheran Act section 43 prohibits use of vehicles in
Matheran.
The Matheran police sub inspector R N
Khebude said, “The 16 year girl left a letter
at her home. Later she forced her 17 year boyfriend to elope with her. Her boy-friend turned
down her request citing age. She threatened
to jump off the hill station point to commit
suicide. She switched off her mobile. Her parents searched and lodged missing complaint
with the Dombivali police. A kidnapping case
was registered (being a minor) with the concerned Dombivli police unit. However, in the
night when she switched on her mobile the

over 300 delegates who have registered for
the three day event.
Dr Anu Vij President, NMOGS shared “
These dignitaries highlighted the importance
of starting a dialogue regarding sexual prob-
ran. She had sent a suicide threat text message to her boyfriend. A police team along with
the girl’s father, a relative and her boyfriend
drove the car at around 10.30 pm to Matheran.”
He added, “Ambulance gate was open. The
Audi car entered to the hill station through
the gate. Locals present in the Market area
had fracas with them over Audi car entry. The
Audi car was sent back to Dasturi before our
police reached there. The Dombivali police inspector told us about the case. All were ignorant about vehicular entry restriction in to
Matheran but were in a hurry to save the girl.
Hence no police case was lodged against anybody. The girl was rescued. She had behaved
erratic twice or thrice in the past.”
A local resident Janardan Parte said, “Four
constables on civil dress had travelled with
us in a taxi from Neral after 7 pm in search of
the girl. The constables were informing their
location to their seniors over phone and moved
fast ahead of us. Later we came to know about
the girl’s case and Audi car drove to Market
area.”

With the rise of education and awareness,
people have become more conscious of their

Navi Mumbai resident about Ganpati Puja in the US
Vashi resident Veena Adige speaks to Ashok Dhamija
Many Indians
tend to become more
Indianised when they
go abroad and wish to
keep traditions and
initiate their children
into them. Ganesh
puja is one of the foremost pujas that are
done by Hindus all
over the world. And
since the American educational system does
not support extra holidays, Ganpati puja is
done over the weekend
following the actual
date set up back
home.
The Chinmaya
Mission is doing yeoman services by starting a Bal Vikas Kendra in The US. The
one in Connecticut is
so attractive that children actually look forward to going there.
There is Gita Chanting, shlokas to be
learnt and other children to be met. Every
Sunday or alternate
Sundays these children meet at a specific place and concentrate for two full hours
on whatever the
teachers explain in detail to all of them.
My husband and I
had just reached the US
and were included in
the programmes. This
year the Ganpati puja
began with a competition held where children of all ages were
taught how to make
models of small Ganpatis. A video recording
taught them how to
mould the clay and
fashion it into the desired shape. Even six
year old Rithik Prabhu
could fashion a beautiful Ganpati and happily showed the model to
everyone while his nine
year old sister Shreya
did likewise.
These small Ganpatis were kept overnight
and on Sunday September 11, they were
brought to the Bal Vihar Centre where children and parents gathered.
Each small Ganpati
was kept in a plate
along with flowers,
fruits, kumkum, rice
and water. The children
along with their parents sat on the floor
cross-legged as the veteran gentleman taught
them how to perform
the puja.
It was interesting to
see small children apply kumkum, shower
rice and flowers and
repeat what the teacher told them very sincerely and seriously.
They were very enthusiastic as also their parents, most of whom
knew each other from
the previous years. The
Bal Vihar has a two
month summer break
along with the school
holidays.
The new session of
the Bal Vihar Kendra
begins with this Ganpati puja and this gathering is different from
the other regular ones
where they have Gita
Chanting, shloka com-
petition,
talks and
o t h e r
things.
O
n
Sunday after the Ganpati puja
was done, the children
lined up and as the aarti was sung, each child
performed the aarti
while the child behind
rang the bell. Even four
and five year olds participated. Performing
the aarti was the highlight of the programme
for many and they enthusiastically did it.
The teacher explained the meanings of
the rituals which the
young ones and their
parents listened in pin
drop silence. Later an
educational exercise
was done where all the
children wrote down the
sentences written on
board by the teacher
and thus got initiated
into learning.
Distribution of
Prasad after the introductions of the current
teachers was done
whole
heartedly.
Fruits, sheera, gulab
jamun, appams were
given and all volun-
teered to help. Within
minutes the mats
were rolled back, the
place cleaned and the
kids went home waiting eagerly for the new
session to begin from
the following Sunday.
A day before on Saturday, groups of adults
met and performed the
Ganesh puja wearing
traditional clothes, and
eating simple vegetarian meals having neither onions nor garlic.
Each family brought
an offering and all sat
down to a sumptuous
meal and the different
prasads made by
them.
Ganpati puja in the
US is unique, different
but it is the sentiment
that is important, the
belief and the need to
keep traditions alive
that is creditable. One
has to adapt to the surroundings and if one is
on foreign soil, one has
to keep the surroundings in mind. My husband and I who had
just reached Connecticut to be with our
daughter and her family thoroughly enjoyed
the Ganpati Puja and
felt blessed.
