These speakers are fully compatible with home theater systems. Each model features MagnaGuard® magnetic shielding. This ensures the speaker ‘s magnetic field will not distort the TV‘s image or damage the picture tube, allowing placement next to a television or computer monitor. H O W T O C O N N E C T Y O U R S P E A K E R S Correctly wiring your speakers is important for achieving the best sound quality and a rich stereo image. Wiring should take just a few minutes, but it‘s important to do it carefully, since incorrect wiring (such as reversed connections) can result in a poor stereo soundstage or poor bass. We recommend 18 gauge wire or thicker for runs up to 25 feet (8 meters) and 16 gauge wire or thicker for longer runs. Separate the first few inches of the wire conductors. Strip off 1/2 -inch (12mm) of insulation from the ends of each speaker wire to expose the two conductors and tightly twist the wire strands. Warning: To prevent electrical shock hazard, always switch off the amplifier or receiver when making connections to the speaker. The metal surfaces are plated with 24k gold to prevent corrosion. Insert the wire into the hole and tighten. Back of amplifier or receiver C H E C K I N G T H E C O N N E C T I O N S It is critical that your speakers are hooked up with similar polarity or “in phase.” A simple listening test will tell you if the speakers are connected properly. Place the speakers face-to-face, as close as possible. While listening to music with your amplifier set to MONO, reverse the connections at one speaker only. You’ll hear a dramatic change in sound. The connection that yields the fuller bass and louder sound is the correct one. R O O M P L A C E M E N T F O R B E S T R E S U LT S Room placement is one of the most important factors in determining sound quality. Taking a few minutes to try different placements ensures that your speakers will sound best in your listening environment. For a realistic soundstage, place the speakers 6 to 12 feet (2-4m) apart so they form a triangle with your favorite listening position, and are near ear level when you are in a seated position. The speakers should be at least 2 feet (.6m) from the corners of the room. Putting the speakers too close to a corner can produce an unnatural bass reinforcement that detracts from their balanced, uncolored sound. If a speaker must be placed near a corner, move it away from the wall behind it to preserve its natural tonal balance. The CR Series will work well on bookshelves or stands. For best results, avoid placing the speaker’s back flush against a wall, since this will restrict the air flow from the port and reduce the bass response. Clearance of 1/2 - inch (12mm) or more is sufficient to maintain proper bass response. Four self-adhesive rubber feet are provided to protect the mounting surface finish and prevent vibration. Using the keyhole– Consult a knowledgeable installer regarding the proper hardware to use on your wall surface. Make certain there is at least a 1/2 - inch (12mm) gap between the top rear of the speaker cabinet and the wall behind it. This will ensure the speaker is the proper distance from the wall to maintain unrestricted air flow from the woofer port. Using the optional CRB bracket– Wall mounting brackets (model ”CRB”) are available for the CR6 and CR7. The brackets provide greater mounting flexibility than the keyhole and will position the speaker the proper distance from Self-adhesive rubber feet prevent marring of the walls surface the wall. L I S T E N I N G L E V E L S A N D P O W E R H A N D L I N G The power recommendation for the Compact Reference Series assumes you will operate the amplifier in a way that will not produce distortion. Even these rugged systems can be damaged by an amplifier if it is producing distortion. If you hear a harsh, gritty noise, turn the volume down. Prolonged or repeated operation of your speaker with a distorted signal from the amplifier can cause damage that is not covered by the warranty.
