Dream Foundation serves terminally ill
adults and their families by providing
end-of-life dreams that offer inspiration,
comfort, and closure.
Dear Friends and Supporters,
“I don’t see the funding that Genentech provides
to Dream Foundation as a philanthropic gift,
rather I see it as an investment in motivation
for our people. It reminds our people of why

A Message from the Executive Director
On the heels of our 20th anniversary in 2014,
we began working to strengthen and develop
relationships and programs, broaden our
national reach, modernize and fortify our brand,
and insert our work soundly into the palliative
care conversation.
In September 2014, we soft launched a brand
new program, Dreams for Veterans, which pays
tribute to veterans facing a terminal illness by

Due largely to the implementation of our new
programs, we continue to see a rise in dream
requests, with 48 percent more dreams served
between January and August 2015 as compared
to the same time last year.
In anticipation of our recent accomplishments,
we have put measures in place to strategically

New Board and Senior Management Announced
Dream Foundation is pleased to welcome three new members to the Board of Directors.
Carol Brown, former Dream Foundation Vice President of Major and Planned Gifts, who retired
earlier this year after 15 years of service, says, “I have been blessed to work with an amazing
team dedicated to enhancing the lives of thousands of dream recipients. It is an honor to join
the Board of Directors.” Troy Cox, Senior Vice President of our corporate Partner in Dreams,
Genentech, echoes Brown’s sentiments. “It is a true honor to join the Board,” he says. “I look
forward to contributing as much as I can to further this critical
mission.” Christopher Lincoln, Founder & President of Flying
Fish Productions, says, “To work alongside this astounding
group of people who dedicate their professional and personal
time to enhancing the lives of those less privileged is special to
me and my family.”
Beth Skidmore, our Director of Development, is a recent
addition to the Senior Management team. “The moments,
memories and critical services the Foundation provides are
awe-inspiring and I look forward to supporting this important,
life-changing work,” she says. Skidmore had been the
Development Director of Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation
for 11 years.

Last year we began the process of

development of Dreams for Veterans.
Dreams for Veterans grants dreams to U.S.
military veterans 18 years or older with a life

as a wheelchair ramp, working appliance or

reconnecting with aspects of former military
service.
Participants in the Dreams for Veterans

Multiple Myeloma is the second most
common blood cancer, and the number of
diagnosed cases is increasing each year.
Despite extraordinary progress in battling
this disease, it remains incurable. Given
these circumstances, Dreams for Multiple
Myeloma serves adults living with advanced
stage multiple myeloma and limited
treatment options available, even if their
life expectancy is greater than one year.
That is what sets this program apart from

Employee Engagement
Dream Foundation seeks the partnership of corporations whose missions align with
ours, particularly when it comes to the value of employee engagement and social
responsibility. Be it through workplace giving, corporate dream hosting, supporting
the Santa Barbara-based Flower Empower program or in a variety of other ways,
their engaged employees become involved in a meaningful cause, which is proven
to promote workplace satisfaction and boost employee morale.
Veteran-to-Veteran Dream
Dream Foundation is committed to providing those we
serve with a personal level of care and compassion that
allows his or her dream experience to include a sense of

the military community by allowing individuals
to refer applicants and contribute resources.
Here are just a few of the creative endeavors
our Partners in Dreams and volunteers
have undertaken this year (and many for
consecutive years) to demonstrate their
commitment to employee engagement:
Laps for Living
Since 2011, Genentech volunteer David Polei
has hosted an annual “Laps for Living” event
at various racetracks throughout the country,
where his team comes together to race
cars in support of dreams. The participants
collect pledges per lap raced, and to date
have raised $2,665.
Evening of Dreams
In May 2015, a California-based Genentech
team hosted an “Evening of Dreams,” where
more than 70 friends, colleagues and
medical personnel gathered for food and
drinks, a silent auction and presentation
about Dream Foundation. The entirely
Genentech-produced event resulted in a
donation of $6,316.

The event collateral was hand-designed by
local student artists, who also give their time
and talents year-round by making cards for
the program. Youth participation in Flower
Empower highlights the value of assisting
others, which can be fundamental in
esteem from an early age. The students’
artwork was also featured in the silent
auction.
Locally-sourced cuisine was provided
by Seasons Catering, and as the guests
left, they were treated to a homemade
cookie baked by Dream Foundation
supporter and Flower Empower
Committee member, Robin Himovitz.
Many thanks to the entire Flower Empower
Committee for making this great event
possible!

Summer Dream
O
n June 4, 2015, Dream Foundation
partnered with Santa Barbara
swimwear designer, Danielle Rocha
of Rocha Swim, to host Summer Dream,
a swimwear runway show event aimed at
engaging young adults in the mission of
Dream Foundation and raising funds to help
make dreams come true.
This event featured a cutting-edge fashion
show by Rocha Swim that took place in an
outdoor runway set up at Cabana Home
and also featured local designers including
BARBARA BYRGE
Design and Chapala & Parker. One hundred
percent of the proceeds from this event was
earmarked for dreamers in their twenties.
As Dream Foundation looks for new ways
to promote our services, it is important
our mission. Eleven percent of our dream
recipients are between the ages of 18
and 35, and it is wonderful to know that
their peers are out there thinking of them
and sending support. We are thankful for
the young professionals who are full of
philanthropic spirit and who attended this
event.
Special thanks to Summer Dream event
chair, Arlene Montesano, and event sponsors
