You’ll receive a quality education without a huge tuition charge. HANDS - ON LEARNING Stout offers many lab facilities for students, allowing you to acquire the hands-on skills that you’ll need in the workplace. FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE There are many great ways to meet a wide variety of people at Stout. Living in a residence hall, getting an on campus job, or joining one of the many student organizations are just a few ways. Stout is a great place to get involved! WHY STOUT? If you have any questions or concerns, the faculty and staff at Stout will take some time to work through them with you. They are here to help you learn. WHY STOUT? 3 IVE ON CAMPUS LIVE ON CAMPUS FIVE REASONS 1 OPTIONS You can choose to live in a smoke-free area, or an alcohol-free floor, or in a quiet study environment. The residence halls accommodate many different types of people, from freshmen to upperclass and non-traditional students. 2 MAKING FRIENDS Residence halls are communities where you can meet a variety of new and interesting people. 3 CONVENIENCE Would you like to have telephone service, fast internet access, a cable tv connection, a microfridge, and a clean environment to live in? No problem! All are provided in the residence halls as a part of your housing costs. Meal plans are covered as well! 4 “Try to enjoy campus life, and have fun.” - May Theeranart Nutthawutthisit - Apparel Design CONNECTIONS Create a sense of belonging by meeting new people in the residence halls who share your interests. Not only that, but the residence halls are great places to find out how to get involved. 5 IT FEELS LIKE HOME We provide the basics and you add the flare! Bring stuff with you to reflect your personality and build an environment which you call home. LIVE ON CAMPUS 4 5 EXPECTATIONS EXPECTATIONS 6 You have some expectations of us as a University. Guess what? We have expectations of you, too. We want to outline them here, so you know what to prepare yourself for when you arrive at UW-Stout. Show Integrity. Be truthful and honest with people. Stick to your morals and values. For example, don’t lie to people or cheat on tests and papers. Follow the rules and policies that have been established. They were made for a reason. Respect Yourself. Think about your behavior before you do something. Ask, “Is this helping me succeed in college?” Can you say that you are proud of your actions? Challenge yourself to look at things from a new perspective. Instead of following a crowd, be an individual. Show concern for others. Treat people well, and be kind to them. Think about how YOUR behaviors are affecting others, and act accordingly. Be a good citizen. Learn about those who are different from you, and appreciate them. Don’t judge people or discriminate against them. Act in a way that helps create a positive community. Respect Authority. Treat faculty and staff (including student staff members) appropriately. Follow their advice and directives, because if they are telling you to do something, it is probably in your best interest (even if you don’t think so at the time). Follow policies and procedures, and you will find yourself getting through things much more easily. Respect Property. We provide all kinds of stuff (furniture, athletic equipment, facilities, etc.) to make your Stout experience better. Take care of it - treat things with care. If it breaks or is damaged, tell someone and get it fixed or replaced. ALCOHOL USE We specifically want to mention our expectations regarding alcohol use. On some campuses, drinking is often part of the social life for students, but misuse of alcohol is a growing problem. If you read the previous expectations, you will realize that if you choose to drink alcohol, you will impact yourself and other people. Most of the time, this impact is negative. UW-Stout is taking an aggressive approach to under-age drinking and alcohol abuse. There will be financial and educational consequences for students who violate alcohol policies. We want you to be aware of this before you come to school here. If you come to UW-Stout, we want you to have fun and enjoy yourself, but you need to do this in responsible ways. EXPECTATIONS Respect Others. 7 LIVING OPTIONS LIVING OPTIONS 8 Fresh Success In the Fresh Success residence halls, you will participate in activities that help you adjust to living in the residence halls and to UW-Stout. You will also foster your personal development, build connections with faculty and staff, and have readily available academic help. On smoking floors, students may smoke in their rooms when their doors are closed. Honors Floor The floor provides opportunities for students who are a part of the Honors Program to share classroom and other academic experiences within a social atmosphere.
