The gallery is continuing to have a lot of foot traffic in spite of
the road work being done by the city in front of the gallery. We
had another sale last month at the gallery. A woman from
Pasadena drove past our gallery and saw a painting in the
marquee. She stopped and bought it for $1,200.

From The President ……..
We are beginning the process of revamping the LJAA website and making it more user
friendly. We have some volunteers and will need a few more. Specific information will
be coming in future newsletters.
The Annual Meeting will be held at the gallery on June 8 at 5pm. An Agenda will be sent
to our members very soon.
Don’t forget to reserve your spot in the upcoming juried Sorolla Show. $200 will be
awarded to Best of Show and two awards of $100 will be given as Honorable Mention.
Send a check for $35 to LJAA marked “Sorolla Show”. This will hold a spot for your
painting. Paintings must be no larger than 18”x24”. Paintings should be painted in a
manner SIMILAR to Sorolla and not copies of his work. A show featuring his work will
be running simultaneously at the San Diego Museum of Art. For more information

Our Education Director, Leon Okun, is currently teaching classes at the gallery on
Saturdays. Please contact Leon for more information at 858-792-7714.

Our Membership Chairman, Madhurama Ganguli (Madhu) is increasing her business
teaching children private art lessons in their homes. Please contact Madhu for more

SALLI SACHSE
Carolyn Hesse-Low organized a group show involving some of
our past and present members. The show is titled "Maritime
Impressions" and will be on exhibit at the Maritime Museum
on the Berkely for several months. In the picture are members
Pamela Ingwers, Leon Okun, Carolyn Hesse-Low, and Raye
Anne Marks
Salli had a show, Row by Row, at the La Vida Del Mar Art
Gallery during the month of April through the 30th.

Minnie is back from Costa Rica with
this report:
“Over a month of walking around,
visiting volcanoes, jungles, beaches,
painting, and most importantly:
INGRID WOLTERS
meeting wonderful people!”
Ingrid entered the juried show of St. Mark’s United Church
in Clairrmont and was accepted . Her painting of a sunset
is entitled, God’s paintbrush.
The show ran during the month of April.
This Church has been offering this show to San Diegans
for 51 years.

La Jolla Art Association
presents
Painting workshop
Did you ever want to paint somebody’s portrait — but did
not know how? Did you ever start a big painting but —
could not finish it? Or maybe you wanted to copy a
painting — but you don’t know how to start. This
workshop is intended to help you in any kind of situation or
project: still life, portrait, landscape, master copy, drawing,
even your first experience with art. Students will work
from a reference of their choice or Leon Okun will provide
reference materials. Leon will help you complete your art
project or projects and guide you on to future endeavors
you would also like to try. In
this announcement you can see
examples of Leon's still life,
portrait,
landscape
and
narrative painting.
This
workshop
will
run
on
Saturdays 2pm-5pm and will
cost only $20 per hour. To sign
