Comply with legal regulations and requirements.
We help you to achieve European certification.
We can support you along the planning and manufacturing process - starting with
material testing at material manufacturers’ sites, followed by inspection services during
manufacturing and finally certification of the finished product.
Design and planning phase
Manufacturing phase
ƒ Support in the approval process, according to national
and international regulations for worldwide markets
ƒ Risk assessment and safety evaluation
ƒ Review of the design proposal and strength calculations
ƒ Calculations and analyses, including the finite elements
method (FEM)
ƒ Design verification
ƒ Review, approval and inspection of materials and their
production process
ƒ Procedure processes - parameter identification, feasibility
and usability
ƒ Certification of welders
ƒ Certification of non-destructive testing (NDT) personnel
ƒ Testing of pre-products, components, products and
assemblies
ƒ Certification of quality assurance (QA) system
ƒ Support in welding and materials technology
The certification process
As a manufacturer, you have many responsibilities and details to consider
during the planning and production of pressure equipment. These include
compliance with safety requirements, such as:
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
Analyses of hazards
Material selection
Calculations for capacity, security and operation
Manufacturing process (especially welding processes)
CE marking
Instruction manuals
For certain processes, you need to have qualified personnel and appropriate
procedures in place and execute the work accordingly. These include:
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
Tracebility of materials
Component preparation
Permanent joint
Heat treatment
Pressure test
Final assessment
As a Notified Body, we can review and certify all these elements and
procedures. We can support you through the whole process to meet the
applicable requirements. Moreover, as an independent inspection agency, we
provide you with the required personnel qualifications.
To help you expand into the global market, we certify your pressure equipment in compliance with European legislation and with a wide range of national regulations. We support you with:
ƒƒ A general understanding of the Pressure Equipment
Directive (PED) and other related directives.
ƒƒ Understanding the concept of CE marking.
ƒƒ Recognizing equipment that falls under the directive.
ƒƒ Understanding conformity assessment procedures.
ƒƒ Determining the risk category of particular pressure
equipment.
ƒƒ Drawing up a Declaration of Conformity.
ƒƒ Creating a technical file.
According to the risk category of the product, you can choose a combination of different modules
to comply with the PED enabling you to use the CE marking.

Offering you the experience you need to gain
access to your target market.
As a manufacturer of pressure equipment or related components, you must certify your
products according to the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 97/23/EC if you
want to sell them in Europe.
PED is a guideline for the design and manufacture of pressure equipment
covering pressure vessels, heat exchangers, steam boilers, pipelines, storage
tanks, pressure relief devices, valves, regulators and other pressure equipment
with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar.
With over 140 years of experience in inspection and certification of boilers and
pressure equipment, we offer you highly specialized expertise and industry
knowledge to help you meet all the requirements of your target market.
We can help you with any kind of pressure equipment, starting with material
testing at the manufacturer’s site, followed by inspection services during
manufacturing and finally certification of the product. For the European
market, boiler and pressure equipment must be certified by an independent
Notified Body to ensure compliance with all regulations.
European regulations
Harmonized norms:
ƒ EN 12952, EN 12953: steam boiler
ƒ EN 13445: pressure vessel
ƒ EN 13480: pipelines
European country regulations:
ƒ Germany: AD 2000
ƒ United Kingdom: PD 5500 (BS 5500)
ƒ France: CODAP 2000
ƒ Other
