The city spreads around the picturesque Natal Bay and offers so much to so many that it has deservedly become one of South Africa’s most visited tourist destinations.Durban itself is probably best known for its “ Golden Mile”, a 6km walk along the golden sands, that stretches from the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World in the north to uShaka Marine World in the south. The Golden Mile is one of the main tourist attractions in Durban with loads of surrounding activities. Durban Botanical Gardens The Durban Botanic Gardens (DBG) traces its origins to colonial times, when it was founded in 1849 for the introduction and trial of potentially useful commercial crops. The gardens later developed collections of sub-tropical trees, palms and orchids. The Durban Botanic Gardens remain classic botanic gardens, reflecting the universality of the plant kingdom. It has, for over 100 years, had a fine mixed arboretum of African, Asian and American trees.
