Monroe Area FBLA Takes State Honors
WPES Focus Students Learn
About the Middle Ages

Monroe Area High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the state conference at the
Hyatt Regency in Atlanta March 23 & 24. This year the chapter not only received the Gold Chapter award, but was
also recognized as being a "Superior" chapter ranking 6th in the state overall out of over 400 high school chapters.
The chapter also received 2nd place for its participation and completion of the Business Achievement Awards that the
individual students earn. Christina Campbell was named the Region 14 Who's Who member. Dillon Ward placed 2nd
in Technology Concepts and 8th in Cyber Security, Madison Loggins placed 3rd in Word Processing II, Christina
Campbell, BlakeTurner, and Olivia Vining placed 4th in American Enterprise, Madison Loggins, Javianne Oliver, and
Destiny Wright placed 5th with their Texting and Driving video, Gloria Briscoe placed 8th in Word Processing I.
Christina Campbell, Nehemiah Hester, Madison Loggins, Blake Turner, and Todd Williams received their Leader
Business Achievement Awards. Dillon Ward will have the opportunity to go to the national conference in San Antonio
Texas this summer.
Let’s Get Back to Work
Mrs. Young’s 4th grade Focus class at WPES has been studying the Middle
Ages this year. The experience has involved reading, writing, researching,
listening, observing, and illustrating. Incorporating cooperative learning,
each group researched castles and then designed and built a castle. They are
now displayed in the media center and will soon be set up in the class room
for Medieval Parent Night.
YMS Celebrates Diversity at Special Olympics Parade

Walton County School’s Title I Program and 21st Century Community Learning Center, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Labor, recently hosted a two-part
seminar, “Let’s Get Back to Work”. The purpose of the program was to provide learning opportunities for adults and work-eligible teens to prepare them to enter the work
force. The goals of the seminar were to enhance the confidence and self-esteem of
job-seekers, to support non-graduates to get their GED, to decrease the high school
dropout rate, and to promote parent engagement and interest in our public schools.
Highlights of the seminar included topics such as identifying your skills, preparing a
resume, completing on-line job applications, and building confidence for a strong interview.

Saturday morning, March 24th, provided an experience that 9 Warrior Cheerleaders will remember for
years to come as they represented Youth Middle School at the Special Olympics Parade in Downtown
Monroe. Of course they were excited to show their Warrior Spirit, but more importantly, they were honored to be standing behind and supporting their YMS Special Olympics participants. Leading the way and
beaming with pride, were Saundie Dotson and Deanna Lott, teachers of these remarkable athletes. “Special Olympics is such an uplifting, joyous event that my students and I look forward to each year. It’s a
day dedicated to celebrating diversity and also respecting the differently-abled among us. To have such an
incredible turn-out from other YMS faculty and students sends a message that we’re all “Warriors” and a
part of this amazing school, regardless of our differences,” remarked Mrs. Dotson. “I’m so glad we decided to participate,” said YMS Warrior cheerleading coach Kathy Fransioli, “this was such a rewarding
experience for our girls!”
In attendance were Sophie Pietarila, Taylor Sliger, Dalia Simpson, Breeann Green, Casey Derry, Abigail
Stumpf, Gracie McCutchen, Kaitlyn Kilgore, and Precious Hester, Alisa Sheats, and Summer Filligim
along with Coaches Tiffany Cooper and Kathy Fransioli.
MathCounts Team at LMS Earns State Recognition
Loganville’s Got Talent
A wonderful night of singing, dancing,
twirling, instrument playing…just to
name a few…was shared by all at the
first annual Loganville Elementary PTO
Talent Show. The acts were judged by
community member judges Leigh Atha,
Tish Lark, and Tom Kirby. Second
grader Shelby Coffey and her older sister Sydney clogged their way into 3rd
place. Alyson Young, a 4th grader, sang
her way into 2nd place and 4th grader
Lauren Bailey danced her way into 1st
place. LES Pre-K teacher and former
UGA majorette awed the audience with
her amazing twirling routine. The night
ended with a special mini-concert performed by LHS student and The Voice
contestant, Jordan Rager. A great time
was had by all!
Loganville Middle School students have been recognized on the local, state, and national
levels for their accomplishments in mathematics. On February 17 Holly Beavers, Tudor
Hadade, Cole McGaughey, Jake Mulkey, Jade Henry, Alania Green, John Hancock, and
Jessica Wolf represented Loganville Middle School at the Regional Mathcounts Competition at UGA. Jake Mulkey (pictured on the back row third from the left) finished in the
top ten and was the first student from LMS to compete in the State competition at Georgia Tech on March 23.
On a National level, Loganville Middle School has earned Silver Level status with the
very prestigious Mathcounts organization for the fifth year in a row. For the second year
in a row, Loganville Middle School has earned the elite distinction of being a Gold Level
School.
