STAFF CHANGES
TRUSTEES NEWS
Enews- August 2016
TH
HORIZONS 25 TH ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATIONS
Jon Worster is set to retire at the end of this sailing
season.
Invites have gone out if you didn’t receive one
either by email or post call into the office for one.
Everyone at Horizons knows Jon. He has been part
of Horizons since the beginning; from the fitting
out of ‘Friendship’ to the expansion of the fleet we
have today. Jon has been there throughout and his
passion for what can be achieved through the work
of Horizons is clear to us all. We have benefited
greatly from his skills and experience. We will find
time to say a proper thank-you to Jon before he
retires on 31 October.
Please let be know as soon as possible if you are
coming to either the afternoon sailing or the
evening event or both with names of people
attending so we know numbers for food and
attendance.
Simon Mace is currently our Chief Sailing Instructor.
We are delighted to tell you that when Jon retires
Simon will be promoted to Operations Manager.
Simon has been an important part of Horizons for
several years and knows the organisation well. We
are confident that his sailing and management skills
will ensure continued success.
100 NUMBERS
This month we asked Jean Taylor
one of our volunteers to draw this
months 100 numbers.
Annette Molloy continues in her role as Business
Manager – supporting the water borne activities
and also raising vital funds and maintaining the
administrative side of this busy charity. As the
operational staff change, we will have the peace of
mind that Annette will be working to keep things
moving on an even keel.
We need to find the right person to fill the Chief
Instructor post which will be vacated by Simon. As
part of the personnel changes, we have reviewed
the Job Descriptions of our core staff and will be
looking for someone with not only the necessary
paper qualifications, but also the depth of
experience to match our particular operational
needs. Keeping our cadets, volunteers and staff safe
on the water is paramount and we will be looking
for the successful candidate to demonstrate their
ability to be able to do that, as well as being part of
the Horizons Management Team.
More information on these changes will be posted
here and in e-news as we move towards the end of
the season.
Keep sailing!

SUMMER RYA COURSE ROUND UP:
During the summer holidays we had a real mix of
weather but we still managed to complete our
training programme. We had over 40 young people
and 4 volunteers take part in the training which was
spread out over 4 weeks. We delivered a range of
courses from RYA Youth Stage 1 all the way up to
RYA Day Sailing.
It is great to see so many of our young people and
volunteers participating in the RYA training and
gaining qualifications. Congratulations to all who
took part.
Our thanks go out to all the people/organisations
who sponsored the training and to all those
volunteers who helped with the delivery of the
courses. Our volunteers gave up their time to help
instruct and to drive/crew safety boats which
allowed us greater flexibility in the way we delivered
the courses. In turn this meant the students could
get the most out of the courses.
